I post this as a warning to others
I post this as a warning to others, a Ukrainian national I sponsor inadvertently drove off the forecourt without paying for about £20 of fuel leaving myself to collect the details of this event from my local service station.
The notification letter arrived requesting payment of fuel with a £35 charge payably within 14 days after which the total demand would then increase to £94. I therefore paid the first amount in order to prevent any further escalation of funds demanded over time.
This letter arrived by second class mail in 7 days leaving only 7 days to pay before the deadline expired thus escalating his case to the next level. This letter is therefore classed as a time sensitive legal document and sending said document by economy second class post clearly constitutes bad practice which I sorely complained about in my email together with demanding a VAT receipt only to acknowledge the payment and attach the receipt.
On another note and I name BPH council for this one. A neighbour's son received a £200 demand letter from them after dropping a cigarette butt, this demand letter by second class mail requested payment in 7 days followed by court action in default, the letter arrived 12 days later, 5 days after the time limit expired, their letter is classed as a time sensitive legal document immediately escalating to legal procedings. This case counts as gross bad practice setting up the lad to fail in the worst possible way.
BPH council, hang your heads in shame!.
I woke this morning 31st July andâŠ
I woke this morning 31st July and received in the morning post two non payment notifications for fuel drawn at a forecourt, picture of my vehicle leaving provided. One notification was for £102 and the second detailed £137 as I had not paid the first one. The incident in question happened on May 28th where I thought the wife had paid in the fuel station and she thought I'd paid at pump..I'm not disputing this happened I owed the garage £67 . There is no telephone number to contact VARS so I immediately tried to pay my intention to resolve the £102 as I had only found out today!! . Upon trying to pay I discovered I was now in the hands of a collection agency who demanded £197 after waiting on hold for 30 minutes. I have had to pay this as it would have continued to rise despite my protestations they didn't give a toss. VARSPAN must be directed by Trading Standards to send initial notices on recorded delivery and or something that requires signature upon delivery to ensure the person accused has been made aware, otherwise they could make this up as they go along. Thanks to a delayed communication I'm out of pocket an additional £100. If these letters had not arrived on my door step the collection agency would have kept adding to the bill I have had no communication from them. I understand VARS are not responsible for a crap postal service well then why should I be made responsible for it...I've emailed them four times, sent images of the two letters that arrived this morning that through no fault of my own cost me an additional £100....guess what ...total silence...Why are these companies allowed to do this and trade in this manner, ESSO forecourts need to investigate how this company is operating....last time I fill up at an ESSO station..be careful I think they also cover ASDA
What a scam these people are
What a scam these people are. I am another who has fallen foul on a dubious process. For 25 years I have bought petrol at Moor Road station in Chorley. Then apparently I have told the cashier the wrong pump and paid for someone elseâs fuel.
I get a âdrive offâ notice for the difference plus £35 admin fee. Leanne the petrol station manager wasnât interested. What are Asda doing about this? Check out the reviews, check their financial position on Companyâs House and also see that they are no longer part of the FCA!! Companies spend millions getting new customers. Asda are loosing them left right and centre with this lot of jokers. Wonder what happens if you pay too much for someone elseâs pump. Do you get the money back? I doubt it. How am I supposed to know if another pump is more or less than mine? Itâs crazy.
Crooks
Second time I have been caught on the double dipping scam by this bunch of crooks. Their systems are down so no appeal can be made so will have to pay them. More than happy to join any joint lawsuit or if anyone knows how to start he parliament debate with 100k signatures. these people need to be stopped.

Absolute joke of a company, massive scam!!
Absolute joke of a company. Fault at THEIR end. Their cameras didnât pick me up leaving the car park (8 minute visit) got a £100 fine for parking overnight.
Unless I can provide CCTV of my car elsewhere Iâm liable even though Iâve told them the time I left to check their cameras?
Lucking I went back to work who have CCTV. Oh but wait..a perfectly clear image with the date, time and reg is âtoo blurred for them to make outâ
Not only that, you have 10 days to provide the evidence yet it takes them 2-3 days to reply at a time?
Absolute BS. Wonât be paying the fine as itâs quite clearly a scam. Wonder how many people they do this to!!
ASDA Petrol station scam!
Iâm certain I clicked pay at pump and presented my card (I always use pay at pump at this station) the pump took time to activate, because someone in the shop in cahoots with VARS changed the payment method, which is why I couldnât print a receipt at the end of filling up. As per others on here two weeks later I got the VARS letter. ASDA SCAM!
Falsely accused by VARS
I went to a local station to get some groceries (Not fuel) a few weeks later I received a letter from VARS Technology saying I didnât pay for fuel. I asked them for proof, and they sent me a picture of my vehicle leaving the station and demanding payment. I went back to the station and spoke to the manager. They took a look at the CCTV and it turns out my vehicle went nowhere near a fuel pump. No apology from VARS, just threats of legal action.
Absolute scam of a company
Absolutely unscrupulous scam of a company. Trying to issue a parking fine at my local Asda express saying I overstayed when all I did was make 2 seperate 5 minute visits throughout the day. They have put the onus on me to prove I didn't overstay when it should be on them to prove that I did. They really want me to believe that 1 camera missed me leaving the first time and a 2nd camera missed me entering the second time. Won't answer my freedom of information request on how many false double dip offences they have logged at this site. Can't wait to see them in court. Absolute scum
I wouldn't have given them one star if I'd had a choice.
I went to fill up with diesel at Canford Heath Asda. I put my bank debit card into the reader on the pump and fed in my pin number. For some reason the screen went blank so I tried again with success and the card was approved. I filled up and went on my way. Now I've got an accusation of driving off without paying. Having visited my bank I find that they had authorised both attempts but asda had failed to take their money. I now have a threatening letter from these people and have to wait for them to sort this as they're very busy. No surprise there! 15th April 2026 and still no reply other than another notice, this time for £107.41, which, obviously, I won't be paying. I notice from prior reviews that I'm not alone in Poole to get accused of stealing. Haven't, and won't, shop at asda again for anything.

Just another potential victim of these scammers...
I've spent more than 3months on behalf of my 86 year old father in law defending a claim /fine of £100+
After speaking to his bank manager to obtain evidence of payment, bank manager confirmed they are regularly approached for such information and it's a well known scam. Received a 3 line e-mail from Vars today saying fuel station has confirmed he paid and so they are 'closing their case' - These people need to be shamed.
Absolutely horrendous company noâŠ
Absolutely horrendous company no telephone number to come contact them on hide behind a faceless email, I made payments for my petrol on my business account but received a letter saying that I hadn't but that it was an error on the petrol stations end so I asked that I would like to go and check my account to make sure I had not to be charged as did not want to be charged twice, I assumed while this was under investigation the charge would be paused but now I have been sent a letter with an additional fee for not paying customer should be allowed the time to investigate rather than just being sent a letter demanding money that they have already paid!! absolutely disgusting behaviour, horrendous company to deal with! Should be ashamed of themselves! Should also be able to leave a zero star review as that is what they deserve!
Horrible company
Horrible company. Cashier did not charge me for petrol and so I didn't pay for it. Sent me a letter received two weeks after date on letter. Charged me £50 for £15 worth of petrol. AVOID ASDA for using a company like this.
VARS technology...Scammers
I must of used £15 of petrol but got distracted by buying a meal and a coffee and payed for everything else but forgot about the fuel...then get a final warning letter by Vars saying I owe £85 with no first letter...so I was confused by it all as I never in my life not payed for my fuel,
There was no number to call only a email so I sent them two emails trying to explain what happened with no reply then the next day I get a bailiff letter by Dcbi agency asking for £145
Which u felt pressured to pay as I can no longer fuel up, as Vars put me on a band on all petrol stations.
So a simple mistake that's now cost me £145...I think vars never did send me a first letter, just to hike up the money...I will be contacting my MP about this rip off company.
Funny how there is no contact number for vars, just a email which they don't get back to you.
Scammers.

Sent me a letter saying I drove away and didn't pay for £40.01 fuel. I have provided evidence by a reciept and bank statement to say I paid. Now demanding more money. I won't be paying take me to court. No telephone number, emails left u responded too. This company is a scam for sure
Poor system lack of communication
Poor system lack of communication. I was undercharged by the cashier however no way of getting in contact or a reply from VARS Technology to amend their charge to reflect what the cashier rang through the till. I suggest we all post on the VARS Technology and Andrew Dodds MD LinkedIn page to highlight the lack of systems within this organisation. Maybe this will persuade them to change their ways.
----------------------------------------------------------As an unwilling customer of VARS due to a simple cashier mistake, Iâve now spent far more time chasing a resolution than the value of the transaction itself. Whatâs frustrating is not the original error as mistakes happen but the complete lack of an accessible way to speak to anyone when things go wrong!!!!
With more than 100+ oneâstar reviews on Trustpilot and even coverage in the national press (The Guardian), it feels like VARS Technology would benefit from investing less energy in conferences and more in building a responsive contact centre that can actually support their customers.
A modern payments or vehicle service provider needs more than slick marketing it needs a way for customers to reach a real person when something doesnât add up!
