The car we got, Toyota RAV 4, was in great condition for a very good price. Staff could be a little more friendly perhaps, but for quality cars at low rates this was excellent.

Dangerous. These guys should no be operating. If I could do -10 stars I would. Refused to pick u up from the airport when flight was delayed 1 hour. We were left at the airport with no car at 10:30pm with no options. Had to hitch a ride into Queenstown and book new car and new hotel. What an absolute nightmare. Rude and dismissive staff. Cannot warn you more - do not go here. There’s a reason they are cheaper than others.

I never write reviews but thought this would be helpful for other people as a warning, do not use the companies discover cars or yes rentals, both were incredibly unprofessional and held my money in total for over 90 days.

We came to nz in mid April and hired a car for a few days, luckily I ticked insurance as there was a small mark on the rear of the car on return (we’re guessing someone backed into it and drove away either at the shops or at one of the hotels we stayed in). We were told we had to pay over $1600 for estimated damage repair costs before we left (extreme for the amount of damage), and were told to get our money back we had to wait for the repair invoice from yes rentals then we would have to send this to discover cars as they were the company I booked through and had the insurance with. The estimated wait time for the paperwork was a few weeks. We were also told that if the repairs cost less than what we paid they would refund the difference into my account. Mid April is when we had the rental, we didn’t receive the paperwork from yes rentals until the 31st of may and the cost came to almost exactly the estimated cost (over $1600) for a very small amount of damage (we thought this was very calculated, my partner has worked for Toyota so has knowledge re labour and parts costs and it did not match what they invoiced). In that time we were waiting I tried contacting them many times to request updates and was told to “just be patient”, frustrating when my money was on hold. On the 31st of may as soon as I received the paperwork from yes rentals I emailed discover cars to request a refund, through their website , there was no phone number or live person to talk to, it was an email request. I received a reply within a few days saying the time was beyond their return policy so I wouldn’t get my money back, I responded immediately explaining the situation that I had not received the information from yes rentals so I couldn’t have put my claim in any earlier. I received multiple emails from a robot saying a customer service rep would get in contact within 5-7 days (which they didn’t), finally I received an email saying they had accepted my “late compensation claim” on the 23rd June! After more communication attempts with robot responses I finally got paid on the 10th of July. We waited from mid April to almost mid July, over 90 days for our money! I am disgusted in how long this took, that was a lot of my money to be held for such a long amount of time with minimal and un helpful communication mainly from bots. I will never ever use these companies again and have warned all my family / friends about it. I would hate for other people to be stuck in the same situation as us and have much needed funds frozen. Hopefully this helps others, yes rentals and discover cars are both horrible companies.

We booked a car online and when we got there to pick it up it was an old car with more than 200000km on the clock. The staff were very disorganized and could not find the keys to the car. When they finally found it the car was in the back of the yard with multiple cars being washed in front of the car. They gave me the keys and walked away. I had to ask them to move cars so that I could get the car out. It has been more than a week since I have returned the car and the deposit has still not being released form my credit card. There are many more professional places around. Give this one a miss.

Very good service quick and easy and value for money

Paid for brand-new Toyota Alphard 8-seater and, to my disappointment, received an older model with only 7 seats. Moreover, shortly after picking up the vehicle and attempting to address the issue, it experienced a significant breakdown. As a result, I was charged the full rental amount despite being unable to utilize the car. This experience has undoubtedly showcased the exceptionally poor customer service provided by the team, making it the worst I have encountered in the country.

The pickup and drop off service is terrible, picking up the phone. The driver that took us back to the airport was totally useless. He was more worried about his phone than getting us to the airport, this made us get more red lights than what we should of. He them went to the domestic terminal first to pick up someone, then went to the international pickup point and told us to walk rather than drop off at the terminal, over 500 metres and me with a bad leg

The young Asian man who collected us from the airport spoke in ‘Chinese’ to a woman on his car phone throughout the journey. He was very rude to us and shouted at us to ‘just get out!’ when we asked him a second time to unlock the gate for us to leave. His customer service was a disgrace and no one should speak to customers in the way he did. Also, the car was dirty inside and out. When we returned the car, the young Asian woman just asked us for the key then walked away. No further conversation or customer service at all. We were just left standing there not knowing if we needed to stay or could go. Awful company, I would suggest to be avoided at all cost!

If you just need a cheap car that runs, by all means go with them. Otherwise, please do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. Especially if you are riding with your family and have little ones.

We specifically booked one of their "newer" cars 2016-2018 rav4 because we wanted something clean and comfy for the family. What they gave us was a dirty (mud/dirt all over), stained, mouldy, smelly, rundown, overused, there's just too many words to describe the car. I was speechless. I felt afraid and unsafe and I was unsure if I wanted to have my family ride the car but we didn't have a choice. I was mad at myself for not trusting the reviews. The car already had 217k kms in it which explains why it looked that way.

What's more infuriating is that the pictures they send you shows the car is in a very good condition.

We also paid for a phone holder, but what they had was unsecure and it falls off which is really dangerous.

I gave them an extra star because their staff were nice and although the car was still dirty, they did a quick 5-min wash after I complained to the staff about how dirty the car was after seeing it.

Great quality car which was better than I expected. Initially I thought it was a later model than I rented because it was so nice. The process of hiring the car online was very easy and the staff where helpful and friendly when talking to them on the phone and at the shop. The shuttle service to and from the airport was great too.

We needed a bigger vehicle than what we booked because all our luggage wouldn't fit. Yes Rentals accommodated us with a larger vehicle on the spot which made our holiday in NZ very pleasant. Friendly service and prompt communication.

Very friendly staff and although a little short staffed I was more than happy for the price compared to other rental companies. Car was clean and tidy and even if it was a bit dirty or whatever it wouldn't have bothered me for $50 a day. Also the $22 a day for no excess is reasonable too. I know some have had bad experience e looking at reviews but ours was awesome. I also think some people expect premium service at budget price. Exceeded me expectations

Try another company to rent your car.
Images of the car nothing like we got which was old , battered, unclean , stained seats, everything rattled in it , no blue tooth, no reverse cameras, uncomfortable with 81000 kms on the speedometer. So unprofessional customer service. You have many choices to rent cars and this would get a miss from me .

First of all they suggest you will get a Lexus when you are given an old Toyota. Then they will try to con you into paying for tiny damage that was already on the car for which they show you a fuzzy photo of water droplets that could have been hiding the alleged damage. A long way from the airport and not cheap either. Avoid.

Note: this remains to be a review about Yes Rentals because this situation happened involving both Yes Rentals and their agency. For instance, we called Yes Rentals before going to them about our booking - we were not informed it was cancelled. They also cannot show any proof that they informed the agency that they don’t have a car for us. Whatever miscommunication happened, I believe both of them are responsible. This is in no way to intentionally post a negative review about anyone but just to make people aware of things they have to take note of to have a positive trip experience.

Booked a car through their agency, Economy Bookings. Immediately got confirmation via email and even a reminder plus multiple instructions on how to pick-up the car from Yes Rentals. We even called them on our way there to ask if we can pick up the car from their location instead of at the airport, and they said sure no problem.

Arrived at Yes Rentals and was ASTONISHED when we were told that WE HAD NO CAR. Staff said that they already informed the agency that they no longer have cars and hence they cancelled our booking. The agency apparently had the responsibility to tell us. However, obviously, we received no such info. No one called us, no one texted us, no one emailed us. We double, triple check our online booking status and it said confirmed booking.

We then asked the staff to share with us some form of proof that such cancellation indeed happened—an email or whatever. But she couldn’t show us any.

So WE had to call the agency ourselves to verify or at least get our money back, but their call centre was not working. Our call was being dropped after an automated recording about shortened hours on a holiday. It was 11 in the morning. Even tried their Australia call centre, same situation. I know it’s a holiday, but it’s UNACCEPTABLE that there’s no other way to contact them, especially during such a busy season.

We were offered (by the Yes Rentals staff) a bigger vehicle that we didn’t need and was much more expensive and way out of our budget. So of course we didn’t take it.

After an hour and a half, we had to leave empty-handed since the staff offered no other acceptable alternative. They didn’t even offer to call the agency themselves to try to fix whatever misunderstanding—that’s between THEM, mind you—that happened.

Until now, 12. months. after. we still couldn’t contact Economy Bookings and we still are NOT REIMBURSED of what we’ve paid so far. Horrible experience. Felt like we were SCAMMED.

I wish I had read these reviews before hiring a car with Yes Rentals. The infant seat was of poor quality and was not installed in the car. I had to work out how to install the car seat and it seemed like there were missing parts. I did not feel comfortable with the safety of the infant seat, and I’m glad we didn’t need to travel long distances. The staff could barely speak English so I couldn’t ask for help. The car was dirty inside and very dusty on the outside from sitting in the gravel car park that is a poor excuse for a car rental location. The car felt cheap and had no torque so could barely get up a hill. Terrible experience and poor value for money.

This is the worst car rental place i have ever been too. The mirror fell off the car after driving it for 1 day, when we told them they made us pay $400 to get it fixed, car was dirty and not cleaned. Car smelt like mould.
