Same old company, same old tricks

I left a review for TalkTalk back in 2019 and gave them 2 stars due to my experience upon leaving. Here I am 6 years later and have to give them 2 stars again due to my experience upon leaving again!

I was ripped off by TalkTalk back in 2019 and promised myself never to use them again. Unfortunately I was automatically migrated to them by Shell Energy last year. My original Shell Energy (now TalkTalk) contract is now expiring on 29 April so I called TalkTalk on 14 April to request that my contract does not renew. I was told it's all done over the phone and received an email on 15 April saying my service had been updated and sorry that I'm thinking of leaving and to give them a call as they'd love if I stayed. This email indicates to me that the cancellation is going ahead.

Today (23 April) I thought I'd start a quick online chat with customer service just to confirm the status of my account. I was shocked to be told that the cancellation had been rejected! If I hadn't contacted them again, I'd have no idea and they'd have carried on billing me. Why would you reject a cancellation if the contract is expiring? The service advisor today couldn't tell me why. It sounds like they are trying to get more money out of me when I'm leaving just like they did back in 2019.

USA v UK

I don't know whether to give 1 star or 5 stars as I had 2 completely different experiences from 2 different countries. So I've given 3 stars which is in the middle.

USA: a disgrace to the brand. I placed an order on the DKNY website. I decided to cancel the order as I was still within the 30 minute cancellation period so I activated the online chat. Chat was not available. So I emailed customer services hoping that they could cancel my order. 6 days passed without a despatch notification and the money hadn't been taken from my credit card so I thought I had been successful. Then on the 6th day the money was taken. Another 7 days passed before I received a despatch confirmation. Then another 6 days passed when customer services finally read my email and replied which was now too late. So that's 19 days to read an email!
The item finally arrived just over 3 weeks after purchase. I followed the return instructions and DKNY wanted to charge me £30 to return the item! That was 47% of the value of the item! Very poor customer service and an extortionate returns cost. I'll never order from the DKNY website again.

UK: a credit to the brand. There was no way I was paying £30 to return the item so I contacted the only DKNY store in the UK at Bicester Village Outlet. They were amazing! It cost me £4 to send to them and I've received my refund in 3 working days after return. 5 stars for the staff at DKNY Bicester.

Beware of third party sellers on this site

Updated review: I placed an order on 14/11/24, the item was supposed to arrive within 7 working days, it never arrived. I have been in contact with customer services for the past 2.5 weeks who were chasing the third party seller. I requested a refund in numerous emails. It's now 14/12/24 which is exactly a month since I placed the order and I've received my refund today. The seller is Watch Boutique.

From my experience, I will think twice before I order from Debenhams again. It's too troublesome if things go wrong. Will returns be this inconvenient? Will warranties be honoured? It's not worth the risk. It seems Debenhams cannot do anything or process a refund. All they can do is chase the seller on your behalf. I would say do some research first on the seller as in the past I ordered from another seller on Debenhams and that order came through fine. Also I have to give some credit to customer services for always replying to my messages.

I can see that they offered for you to select an alternative and they would honour to the price paid, however you have opted for a full refund on this occasion.

Got ditched by RAC and out of pocket £134

I took out insurance 2 weeks ago and listed my wife as a named driver with 1 claim. I was contacted and told that as I was the policyholder, the claim had to go under my name and not hers. But they couldn't make this change and I'd have to have a new quote from them. They quoted me £225 more than my original price so I declined as I'd had cheaper quotes elsewhere. They said they'd have to cancel the policy with immediate effect so I was left with no insurance. I went back to my 2 week old quotes which had now expired and to my horror started getting much higher quotes because I was now buying insurance at the last minute. I had no option but to pay an extra £134 with another insurer. I'm not happy with being ditched by RAC and having to buy last minute insurance at a higher cost. RAC can't even make a change to a policy.

My first choice for wheel refurbishment

I had my diamond cut wheels refurbished by Bespoke Alloys in Uxbridge a few years ago and was happy with the service and results.

So this time I took a second car to them which was a bit more challenging as it had a special BBS paint on the limited edition wheels which had a tendency to corrode quite easily. The wheels were also badly pitted on the spokes. They did their best to get the closest paint match and spent extra time and effort until they were happy to release the wheels. I was kept up to date on the progress and the staff were friendly. Once again I am satisfied with the outcome and will use Bespoke Alloys again in future.

Migration rip off

I was with Shell Energy broadband which has now been migrated automatically to TalkTalk. My final bill from Shell Energy was more than double what it should have been. I called Shell Energy and was promised the over-charge will be credited. It wasn't. The money left my bank account. I called Shell Energy again to be told that my account was now transferred to TalkTalk and the customer service rep was not interested in my issue. I don't know how and if I can get my money back now. I've been ripped off and my warning to others is, if you can, leave before you are migrated. This could happen to you across any of the Shell Energy services if they follow the same practices.

The funny thing is I was also ripped off by TalkTalk upon leaving them years ago and now I've been migrated back to them.

I'm not alone with this experience, there is another review also recommending to leave before migration and also another where Shell Energy have taken more money out of the bank account. There's another review about the migration team and I can also say that they were unprofessional, unhelpful and who-ever the lady was that promised to credit me lied. I won't be signing up to any other Shell Energy services again.

Didn't price match but otherwise all good

I can't really fault the company. I wanted some wheels which were out of stock. A competitor was listing them cheaper (also out of stock). 5 months later I saw they were showing available on LK Performance so asked for a price match with the competitor. The price match was declined because the competitor no longer listed the item although I did have emails from the competitor stating the price. So I had no option but to go ahead and pay the asking price. Wheels turned up 3 weeks later as they had to come from Italy. I'm happy I got the wheels but it would've been nice if LK Performance had price matched. Although I do understand the reason behind the decision. I would use LK Performance again in future.

Manufacturers selected retailer

It's the first time I've used this company to buy protein powder and I'll be using them again in future. Normally I buy from High Street stores and direct from the manufacturers website but with price increases from the manufacturer I decided to buy a different brand that I've used in the past. This manufacturer doesn't sell direct but listed Dolphin Fitness as one of its select retailers. I received my powder within a few days and it had a long expiry date so I ordered a second tub too. Second powder also came within a few days and also has a long expiry date. So I am very happy with the service and products.

Lost a star for carbon footprint…

I recently purchased my 4th watch from this company. I would give them 5 stars however I was slightly disappointed with the customer service with my last purchase. 7 days after receiving the watch they advertised a greater discount code on their website (10% instead of 5%). So rather than returning the watch and purchasing again with the 10% discount, I asked customer services if they could just refund the difference which would save all the returning and re-buying. But they politely declined saying prices go up and down and that I would have to return the watch and then buy again. I can understand that but it's not very convenient to return and re-buy exactly the same watch again. It's not very eco-friendly if we consider the carbon footprint. Plus it'd cost me money for return postage and them also to send out to me again so I don't see how any side gains. The watch is unworn and still has all the wrapped and sticky plastic and tags so I could easily return it but as its so little gain now, I'm not going to. I will just keep it at the higher cost. I'll still purchase from them in future as I have no other complaints. Going forward it would be good if they could introduce a policy where if the price of an item drops within the returns period, they should be able to refund the difference rather than asking the customer to return and re-buy.

Update: I contacted customer services again after asked to do so (see below response) after this initial review and was told the same thing again so asking to contact them was a waste of time.

The pros and cons

I've been purchasing from Fashion Eyewear for many years. I've kept some and returned some frames from them. Overall I have been happy and will continue to use them for future purchases.

PROS: Good search filter, stock availability shown, good prices, quick delivery, items come with case and cloth, UK based so no customs tax risk, quick email replies.

CONS: Lens dimensions not always shown, no free delivery, no free returns, 14 day returns (some companies offer 30 days), refunds take a full 14 working days to receive.

At first I was sceptical

At first I was sceptical buying from here as the returns policy sounds like you'd get a credit note instead of a refund if you didn't like the item. But I saw 2 frames that were both almost 3 times cheaper here so took a gamble.
The sale frames don't come with the original case or cleaning cloth but this is stated online so I expected that. They do however include their own cleaning cloth and soft bag. Branded cases and cloths on sale can be purchased separately for very cheap.
The website search options make finding a frame easy and all the measurements are listed.
Their delivery cost is quite high compared to other companies and some other companies even offer free delivery. But this is a UK based company so no risk of customs tax.
If you have to make a return they do refund your return cost and the refunds are quick as well as their email responses.
I was thinking of a 4 star rating but their brilliant customer service pushed me to 5 stars. My experience has been positive and I am happy with my frames, the price and service.

The pros and cons

I was looking for new glasses and was recommended The Optic Shop by my brother who had purchased sunglasses from here. My experience with The Optic Shop was positive.
It is UK based so no risk of custom tax. The website clearly states if a frame is in stock, prices are competitive and all the measurements are listed. Their delivery is quick and items come with a case and cleaning cloth. They have a 30 day refund policy and refunds are quick.
I was deciding the rating between 4 and 5 stars because there could be some improvement for example there isn't a search by size option and some other companies offer free delivery and returns. But when I returned my order I did get my original delivery cost returned so that has pushed The Optic Shop to 5 stars. I would definitely buy from The Optic Shop again in future.

The pros and cons

I have purchased from a few different companies and twice from Discounted Sunglasses when looking for glasses and sunglasses. My experience with Discounted Sunglasses has to be one of the best. Initially I hadn't heard of them but the Trustpilot reviews gave me confidence. And they were UK based (so no custom tax) and their delivery and refund policies seemed good. The website is clear with stock availability, great prices, quick delivery time, the items come with case and cleaning cloth, free returns, a quick email response and the refunds are quick. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because there could be some improvement for example although the measurements are listed, the vertical measurements of the lens aren't therefore I had to use the frame model number on another website to check this measurement. Also the search filter could have a few more options like search by size. And some other companies offer free delivery with no minimum purchase amount. But overall I would definitely be buying from Discounted Sunglasses again.

The pros and cons of this company

Xmas extended returns

'PURCHASES MADE BETWEEN OCTOBER 1ST AND DECEMBER 24TH 2022 CAN BE RETURNED UNTIL JANUARY 31ST 2023'.

Thats what the official Superdry ebay store say on the listings. I purchased an item on October 1st and made a return request on November 27th which is well before the January 31st deadline. But my request was declined. I'm assuming they've forgotten about the extended returns policy. Unfortunately it doesn't give me the option to request again so I'm stuck with the item.

UPDATE 05/12/22: I messaged Superdry and they replied saying I can return the item. So I've increased the stars from 1 to 3.

FMG Slough

Staff at FMG Slough were professional and helpful. Overall I am satisfied with the service and repair. The only reason it's not a 5 is because I would have liked new parts instead of repairs/respray however I guess the insurance company wouldn't be too happy with that so fair enough.

The only criticism I have is the rear bumper although looks as good as new, upon very close and detailed inspection I can see a very slight imperfection. Hardly noticeable so I can live with it. Also the car now has one brand new headlight and one old so I hope one doesn't discolour.

Something went wrong with the service recently

I placed an order over a month ago. I didn't receive all of my items. I waited an extra week, still nothing else arrived. Emailed customer services, waited a week and no reply. Called customer services and was told I'd be refunded for the missing items. After 2 weeks, no refund. Called customer services again and they said there was a long queue of refunds so to give it a few more days. I put up a trustpilot review. I got a full refund. I think for my Christmas shopping I will opt for 'click and collect' instead of home delivery to save this from happening to me again. I've given Matalan an average rating as the initial experience wasn't great but it was sorted to my satisfaction in the end.

CREDIT CARD FRAUD

I previously left a negative review for my purchase which turned out to be damaged (they had flat spots from poor storage). After many months of trying to resolve it, my bank put in a chargeback and refunded me and the case was closed.

The last contact I had with tyreleader was 4 months ago and now I have seen £523 (the same amount that was disputed previously) appear on my credit card bill. And it shows as a 'PURCHASE'. The case was closed and now tyreleader have decided to fraudulently claim the money back by disguising it as a new 'purchase'. This is FRAUD. I have now contacted my bank again and have put in another chargeback claim. I cannot believe tyreleader has used my credit card details from my previous transaction which was 8 months ago and withdrawn £523 and making it look like a new order. There is only one word for it...FRAUD.

Beware - confusing returns policy

I returned an item and £2.50 was deducted from my refund. The returns policy is unclear and from my understanding if I use CollectPlus or Asda then they deduct £2.50 for this service however I used Post Office and paid the returns cost myself only to be told now that the £2.50 is deducted anyway even if I use my own method. The only reason I didn't use CollectPlus or Asda is because I had items go missing from my parcel with CollectPlus previously and Asda is far from my house.

In future I now have to take into consideration that if an item doesn't fit or if I order multiple sizes then I will lose £2.50 from the return. This will make me think twice when purchasing an item. Other retailers don't have this charge.

I think the returns section on the website needs to be more clear. And you should be able to return the items via the Post Office at your own expense without getting an additional £2.50 deduction for no reason. Also customer services via email don't reply at all so don't waste your time, call them instead.

Poor start up service

Post Office Broadband were the cheapest I could find however the price has come with its challenges. Firstly my router was never sent out and then when it was finally sent, it was delivered to an address 100 miles away. Third time lucky and it arrived but this was now a month after my go live date. And then the speed was super slow. I called many times to be told it will speed up but it never did. I was then asked to do speed tests and submit the results and it was clear I was getting speeds way below what I had been promised. After this they finally fixed the speed issue and now it had been 2 months after my go live date. Not a good start.
