The worst experience possible
We have had an extremely poor experience with Taylor Rose, which has caused us immeasurable stress, financial loss, and ongoing anxiety. Our conveyancing process was plagued by errors throughout.
Two days before completion, our solicitor informed us that the mortgage funds had already been received and advised that completion would take place on Friday morning. However, completion day was a nightmare. We waited for nine hours outside our new home with a removals team and our two young children, unable to contact our solicitor at any point, and incurred additional costs as a result. It was later admitted that our solicitor had lied about receiving our mortgage funds — something neither her manager nor the client care team have been able to explain.
Five weeks after completion, we began receiving unexpected fines from HMRC. It transpired that our solicitor had submitted incorrect paperwork to the Land Registry and failed to meet key deadlines. While Taylor Rose were aware of and handling one of these fines, they were completely unaware of a second fine, meaning it had not been addressed with HMRC. This resulted in us receiving letters threatening debt collection. If a conveyancing solicitor is unable to correctly submit such critical documentation, it demonstrates a clear lack of competence.
We raised our concerns with the client care team and exhausted all available escalation routes. Their response was wholly inadequate. Each case handler acknowledged and admitted multiple failings, yet beyond repeated apologies, we were offered no compensation to cover the costs we incurred as a direct result of their errors. We have now been advised by an independent firm that our experience falls far below acceptable professional standards and will be escalating this matter to the Legal Ombudsman.
I would not wish this experience on anyone else. We feel completely robbed of the experience and joy that buying our first home should have brought.
