Atticus solved the problems I did not know I had! As a first time author, I was learning the publishing process step by step when I realised I need to format for different devices, I was lucky to decide on Atticus. It was easy to use, guided the last few steps of manuscript, dedication page, author's note etc, and gave me my trim size and page count. In addition the support was great.

Atticus is a genuinely good and easy-to-use tool. The interface is intuitive, the output looks professional, and communication with the support team via email was always friendly, responsive, and pleasant.

Unfortunately, there is one critical issue for my use case: the PDFs generated by Atticus are processed in such a way that they no longer contain machine-readable or even copyable text. This makes them unsuitable for further conversion into an eBook.

My publisher does not accept EPUB files and only works with PDFs. As a result, I am forced to switch to a different tool, even though I would otherwise be very happy with Atticus.

What makes this especially disappointing is that the issue could likely be solved with a simple export option, allowing users to choose between maximum compression and a text-based PDF. Unfortunately, Atticus showed no willingness to acknowledge the problem or provide a solution.

In its current form, the software is simply unusable for my publishing workflow, and the money I spent on it was effectively wasted.

That is a real shame, because without this issue I would have been happy to recommend the product.

OMG I am a writer and I have no words for how amazing Atticus is for my everyday work. It has come so far in the last 12 months and provides me with the expert editing tools I need to produce the most amazing books ever.

Over the years I have formatted 10 books in Atticus. Using the presets and saved master pages for Author Bio, Also By… etc. I could upload and format a book in an hour or less. If I was not perfectionist and did not look at every page it would be even faster.
I’ve done fiction and nonfiction and uploaded images with ease.
Of course there’s a learning curve. But the abundance of helps and YouTube vids gets you crackin’ in no time.

Atticus is simple to use for formatting my books. After 9 books and 2 box sets, I'm officially hooked. It now takes less than 30 minutes to format a complete 346-page book or a box set of 4 books. I use it for ebooks as well as paperbacks (PDFs). I read of indie authors struggling with general formatting issues all the time. Atticus ensures I'm never in their boat. Zero issues. Ever.

When I first started using Atticus, I'll admit that I had a bit of a learning curve to get through, but I watched the videos and learned how to get my book set up, and I haven't looked back. Four books later, I am extremely satisfied, and I just learned there are new features coming soon. Love it!

As an indie author and a small independent press that helps other authors get their manuscripts formatted for publication, I have been using Atticus for a few years. It is easy to use, comprehensive and technically complete. I never get a reject from a retailing upload. The support team is fantastic - human to boot! Every upgrade is exciting and useful. Lifetime subscription is so worth it!

I rely on Atticus.io for all my book formatting needs. The program is easy to navigate, can be adjusted depending on your needs, and has excellent living human customer service. If there is ever a glitch, it is fixed promptly. I have published over 25 books using Atticus and my customers LOVE the results! Thank you Atticus!

So far, the experience has been excellent. After spending weeks trying to format a novel with another program, I switched to Atticus. I was able to format the book in two days, which included spending time reviewing the tutorials and attending to daily life. Initially, I was frustrated because I could not find the Formatting tab. When I ran my cursor across the black bar, the tab turned up in white font. I love how the program has the option to put the Chapter page on the right. I received same day customer service when I asked how to paginate the Foreword with a Roman numeral. Thank you, Lyle. It was simple to drag the Foreword above the Body line on the left-hand navigation pane. The ultimate test remains: uploading the PDF and the EPUB to IngramSpark.

Good product, helps organize chapters and make formatting easy. Customer service is quick and helpful.

Any time I need Atticus, I find someone from their help desk who is very helpful and patient. They explain to me in clear wordings what I need to do. Each and every time they have the right solution for me, so I can continue to work on my documents stress free. I never hesitate to contact someone from Atticus, because I know they will help me out in no time!

Atticus is top-notch. I have never had any glitches, and I've formatted at least 30 books. I love it! It's easy to learn, easy to use, and easy to get help, should you need it. Their customer service is terrific. They even help when the issue is Amazon's fault -- thinking of great workarounds. I highly recommend Atticus and its customer service.

This is, quite possibly, the worst platform experience I have ever had. It's slow and constantly freezes or glitches, so be ready to do a lot of waiting and ctrl+shift+R to hard reload the page. Like, every single time I logged in, before I even did anything, I had to hard refresh because I would log in and the screen would just go white. The program cannot handle images; you'll have more luck adding images to a Microsoft Word document than adding them to a project on Atticus (and given how Word handles image insertion, that's saying something). Constant pop-up windows that have no scroll bar, so you have to tab through to the bottom button, and heaven forbid you hit it one too many times and have to start over. They have multiple settings set to sliders with no option to just type a size in, so good luck picking a rounded number of anything; you'll either have .99 or 1.01 unless you sit there and move the slider back and forth until you get it right. Incorrect measurements; for example Atticus showed my info page all fitting on one 'page' on an Kindle Fire, but when I used Amazon's tool to preview the ebook on a Kindle fire, it was on two pages. This also explains why, when I first submitted my manuscript for print back in 2024, Amazon told me my margins were incorrect despite me using Atticus to set them to exactly what Amazon required. At the time, I thought it was Amazon's fault, but now I know better. I occasionally get updates from them saying things like, 'We introduce a dark mode!' and I half wanted to send a message to them saying, "How about you make it so your website functions and THEN start working on aesthetics?" I'm sure this review seems harsh, maybe unreasonably so, but I literally cannot think of a single feature on this website I liked. I used Framemaker for my last book, and I will be using it for all my books going forward. If I could get my money back from Atticus, I would, but it's been way too long now.

Atticus listens to its customers and does an excellent job with customer service through email. I found some of the tool a little baffling to use at times but received great instructions/help from their customer service, which seems to be available around the clock, 7 days a week. They're also nice and don't get insulted easily. (Sometimes my frustration leaks through to my email questions and they are very polite in response!) The tutorials are well-crafted, as well. I think it's worth the price and have recommended to other authors who want to prepare their own books for self-publishing.

I can't even tell you how much time Atticus has saved me in formatting my books. It's all done for you. You "set it and forget it". That alone is worth every penny you pay. Add to that all the options you have and how easy it is to navigate, I would rate it with ten stars if I could. Added bonus ... their tutorial videos are the best, and their customer service is top of the heap. Can't recommend Atticus enough.

I am so glad I found Atticus a year or so ago. It is an excellent application for both the new or seasoned author. Highly recommend!
