Atticus was honestly my worst purchase as a writer. Formatting is impossible (God help you if you need to insert/move an image), simple things like indentations and quotes are unnecessarily complicated, limited fonts unless you go download more, slow and laggy, constantly needing to do hard refreshes, you can't toggle between panes from text input to formatting, and apparently it's a known problem that if you use them to make an epub or pdf, text-to-speech readers can't read the text. Imagine my surprise when my sister text me saying, "Why can't I listen to your book?? It sounds like it's having a stroke!!" Waste of money, would not reccomend to anyone. Get yourself a Framemaker subscription, master Microsoft Word, or just learn HTML formatting basics and do it yourself. But don't use this very expensive piece of junk. (Note: I posted my day of experience as far back as I could go, but it actually started before that when I published my first book in 2024 and continued until I tried to publish my second book late last year. I eventually had to reformat the book in Framemaker myself and rerelease it that way in early 2026.)

I love this company I have deleted books twice accidentally and both times they have been able to recover them for me rather quickly their customer service is fantastic. As an author my last book was 64 chapters and I accidentally deleted it and Lyle (who deserves a raise and a crown because he is a king) the wonderful customer support guy got it back for me. I recommend Atticus 150% to everybody who asks not only because the customer support is five stars but because the program itself is fantastic.

I have now completed my third book using this company. Their platform is user friendly and their customer centricity is top tier.

This app is an absolute headache to open and operate. Instead of improving it, they are more determined to eliminate the negative reviews. As if that wasn't enough, most of the responses I get are often quite racist and bias as if they are in the center of the world and the rest of the planet is filed with degenerates.

They reached out via Trustpilot I emailed them and problem got fixed. web gremlins exist.

I asked for a refund 2 days after I brought the software and used their website to try to format my .docx into a .epub and it really didn't look the way i wanted to. They promised a no questions asked 30 days money back guarantee. They never provided the refund.

I highly recommend Atticus, not just for their platform, but for their incredible support team. I accidentally messed up one of my books, and their customer service stepped in immediately to help resolve it. Their response time was amazingly fast, and they fixed the issue right away. Great experience all around!

As with any new platform, I was floundering and frustrated. I submitted questions (some very basic) about formatting and functionality. What a surprising treat to have a human being respond promptly and respectfully. Kat has been a gem, patient, reassuring and professional in her responses.
The tool itself is easy to use once you get into it. I’m glad I purchased Atticus for my self publishing needs.

Atticus is what I have been looking for all my publishing life! I started in Quark, and since have used InDesign, Papyrus, Reedsy Studio... I tested all I came across looking for the perfect blend of easy, reliable layout with creativity. Atticus fits all the wish list check boxes. My only regret is I didn't try it out years ago.

I've used Atticus to self-publish and re-publish my work for a couple of years now. The platform is excellent, and I've never had an issue uploading to IngramSpark publishing. Their support is wonderful. I lost a large section of a book I'm working on and contacted Atticus for help. In ten minutes, they reestablished the complete book, saving me hours of work. Thank you, guys!!!!

Initially I had a few minor complaints. It was a little glitchy. A few things I thought would be helpful weren't available. Small things I could live with. Then the real issues started. The cursor would randomly jump around. I'd be typing and all of a sudden the cursor is three lines up, randomly in the middle of a different sentence.

I reached out to support and they said to refresh. Again, I learned to live with it. Refreshing constantly. It just became a part of the gig.

And then I woke up with entire chapters missing. Just gone. I reached out again. They were able to restore some of it, but not all of it. Thankfully, it was in a doc I had uploaded from Google Docs and not one of the ones I started on Atticus. If it had been, I would have been SOL.

I've already paid for it, so I'll use it for formatting. But I would NOT trust this site to write on at all. If you do, export after every single session.

I am not technically gifted with technology, and I often ask for help when I can't figure out how to do something. They always respond quickly, often within a couple of hours. They respond with kindness, never letting me feel like I'm dumb for not being able to do this. And they encourage me in my writing. Customer support is great!

I bought Atticus when it came out just to format ebooks. And it did a great job; I even put custom images on the first page of each chapter in my very first project!
Soon after I found myself writing in Atticus instead of Scrivener. Honestly, Scrivener has the best research/note features (I write fantasy and science fiction so this is important) but Atticus does not require the use of Dropbox and one license let me work on Mac, Linux, Windows and portable devices (unlike Scrivener). Atticus is my writing and formatting software of choice!

Atticus is a dream if you are an author. It PERFECTLY formats my manuscripts for loading into KDP for publishing.

Also, their customer support is OUTSTANDING! Virtually all of my questions have been answered in a most satisfactory way. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ATTICUS! It’s also the most frequently used software of all the other writers in my writing community.

First of all, it was not that hard for a non-tech person such as myself to figure out how to format a book. The only problem I had was trying to sign in and the support was fantastic. I think if I did have any problem to come up with this app I would be able to count on the support to get me through. That is not always true nowadays. Thank you, Atticus support Group.

Atticus is a newer program, and with that, it's had its flaws. However, their customer service has always been fantastic when there are issues, and thus far, they seem to listen to the needs of their customer base. For a program that is a one time purchase, it's truly incredible to still offer this level of service. I've been using Atticus for about three years now and have always had good experiences. As an example, recently I had some weird, fluke issues happening in my latest manuscript rendering. Customer support was patient with me getting back to them and quick to offer actionable steps to try and resolve my issue. In the end, we were able to figure out what was happening and get my new manuscript rendered without issue.

I asked my favorite AI to help me make a choice between Atticus and another highly rated company. I watched many many YouTube vidoes as well. The difference maker was service. ALL of the others offered Help Chats. Atticus offered human's. I prefer humans. I have never made a better decisions. There service is superb!

I've been using Atticus for several months, and I love it! If you just want to use it for simple composition, it's very straightforward.

A while back, I asked about a dark mode, and even though it wasn't available at the time, the support team reached out to me about it. They had a brief meeting with me, and a few months later, they launched the feature!

I recently asked about adding strikethrough formatting for subtitles because I have a character whose name changes, and I want to show the change using that formatting for clarity. One of the support team members reached out and let me know that they brought it up with the team to see if that's something they can add because they like the idea! I love how receptive they are, and they've even added the ability to submit a feature request when you're reaching out to the support team.

It's honestly just a bonus that the price is more affordable than other writing software!

I have been using Atticus for a few years now and I must say that this is one of the very best tools for authors. Atticus has cut down my work time and those time consuming "how-to" research and is consistently improving to give the best possible experience to writers.
