I deleted my book by accident. After submitting a ticket to Atticus support, I wasn't optimistic, but within a matter of hours, I received a mail from Hank to say they'd restored my book. Everything was exactly as it was, so I was delighted with the service and its speed. Thank you, Atticus and Hank, in particular.

The Atticus platform is problematic, consistently displaying "syncing" errors and crashing repeatedly, making it impossible to work and resulting in a terrible user experience. It's also unresponsive and causes a significant waste of time. The contrast with Vellum, which has never presented such issues, is quite stark. These are fundamental performance and usability issues that demand immediate attention.

I'm on my third day of using Atticus to format an eBook. Thanks to Hank in Support and the tutorials, I'm learning how to use the software quicker than I expected to. The Preview feature is great and already my eBook looks a lot, lot better than it does in the software I was using. I should have tried Atticus for eBook and print years ago.

The product is great. The support is excellent and goes above and beyond the usual. The product and the team come highly recommended.

it's a word processor. that's it. nothing more, nothing less. the only difference I could figure out is that being web based, i could access my docs from more than one place.

get one for free anywhere you'd like, and save your money.

they do have a reasonable refund policy, though.

I love working with Atticus just as it is--online. :-D Apps get out of date, and you hear all these tales of some of them being untrustworthy. And they take up space on your computer. Atticus is always there for me and works great! It's really easy to use. And their customer support is responsive, friendly, and prompt.

Atticus is a writing software that is relatively inexpensive and helps you keep your book manuscripts off-site and organized by chapter and easily be able to add new chapters. It formats your book as you write and offers more modern fonts and more modern manuscript formatting for when you upload for publication. It is such an improvement over Word software especially if you don't know Word well enough to put together a decent looking manuscript. And if you decide to send your manuscript out for typesetting you can export a copy of it and send it out to be typeset. So much easier than using Word.

I recently wrote a review explaining the flaws I found using this product. Potential crashing and loss of your book using "copy and Paste" I have discovered a new, more insidious issue. The software will randomly misspell a word after importing a word document. It took "July 12" and made it "Shelly 12th". It took "Original" and made it "oriMarilouI" Both Shelly and Marilou are characters in the book. These misspellings occurred AFTER proofreading . They occurred when the software exported the document for PUBLICATION!
My experience with this software has been horrible. Formatting issues with MS word, import/export issues, random misspellings, No copy and paste. Potential unrecoverable data loss. I am an ex-software developer. I would never release this product in it's current condition. I make this review to help the developers not complain.

This is a great product with outstanding support. I bought and downloaded Atticus two days ago and spent a few hours working on a small pamphlet. Yesterday I formatted a 300 page book. Not bad. The interface is very intuitive and the results very professional. I had one technical question that I raised on Saturday afternoon and had a very helpful answer in 3 hours. The response was by a real person, not some AI bot. I could not be more pleased. I highly recommend Atticus.

Atticus is decent enough at producing a very basic layout for your paperback or non-fiction book; there are nice font choices, it will look professional.

But it does struggle with images, and if you've got a lot in your book, and have an idea where you want them, Atticus won't play; you're actually way better off with Word. It also struggles with indented copy (e.g. a letter or something, maybe); it just makes it look bad on the page.

Also, an update last year (2024) rendered the software virtually useless; it was so excruciatingly slow as to make it unworkable. They've yet to sort mine out despite tons of troubleshooting.

On the plus-side, Atticus' help is top-notch. They get back to you very quickly, and do their best to sort your problem out. But often they cannot due to the failings of the software.

I think most positive reviews come from these self-publishing gurus with massive platforms, who probably get a freebie deal.

If you have the money to spare, go for it, but if you're really thinking about it, and mulling if the spend is worth it, I wouldn't.

I’m a fairly new author and I really struggled writing in word then moving to a formatting software to spend weeks killing myself to get the format correct. Atticus solved this problem and changed my experience completely!
The software is thoughtfully put together for us authors.
The customer support is amazing.

I do my paperback layout in a previously purchased layout software, then copy and paste to Atticus for my e-book. Atticus has helped me find so many mistakes in my layout! I can’t thank you enough for creating Atticus!

Can you believe this? In a moment of genius, I deleted the wrong (completed and selling) book from my Rocket library. I didn't remember doing it, when I did it or how I did it. I hadn't taken a back-up, all I had was the title and the cover image. I thought it might have been a couple of weeks since I'd been using the programme - that's all I could give to Support. Very intelligent. Unbelievably, I received an email 5 days later to say the tech team had found it, and there it was sitting in the library. Exceptional customer service and support!

Atticus deserves a gold medal for how flexible they made this program.

I understood it wasn't set up to do a lot. It works perfect for basic book creation. But I had to try to do a very large cookbook through this software and while not perfect (no way to upload columns) and some other glitchy issues. Atticus got the job done. Just got my phycial copies today and they are beautiful. The struggle was worth it. And our sweet 101 year old Ms. Betty, is simply tickled with the results.

I had a lot of options when choosing formatting softwear, I am certain I choose the correct one.

Don’t limit yourself just because the software isn’t flashy. If you think it through your project can come to life.

Fix the bugs! Look on reddit there are tons of bugs listed 5 months ago you didn't even fixed them. Now you sound like a cheap company. When i export my book, the font is changing... so buggy and slow to count the number of pages

I love Atticus. My books are beautifully formatted and it makes reading them a pleasurably immersive experience. I also love the ease of moving chapters around when my characters tell me I’ve missed something. Plus the master pages functionality saves a lot of time in setting up front and back matter for each book. I highly recommend this product and with a one-time payment, you really can’t go wrong.

Atticus is a trainwreck for me. It cannot locate my chapters, while the demo of Vellum instantly recognizes them, as does the AutoCrit Publish function. I have spent hours with email support, and I still haven't received any usable help. It runs as slow as molasses. What a waste of money! A few months back, it was okay, but not anymore. They must have "updated" it and made it a slow and buggy mess. Thanks, Gary
