I mistakenly deleted a chapter in my book. Kat and the tech team did an excellent job at getting it back.

I've been using this app for three months now and I really wanted to like it, because it's an excellent idea, and Vellum needs serious competition - BUT - for the price, which is almost equivilent to Vellum, this app is just not worth it.
Where Vellum is seamless, and functions perfectly to produce a great looking final product, Atticus is slow to register updates, glitchy, loses edits and forgets chapter headings. And forget actually writing a draft in it - it's just too slow.
And though I've tried and tried to do something as simple as change the cover jpg, even deleting the former copy from the image bank - Atticus just won't do it.
I'm so sick of this app I'm thinking of ditching it, regardless of what it cost. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because, as I said, it's a great idea, and I wish very much it worked.

Atticus has saved me so much time on formatting my books for KDP and Kindle! I used to either have to spend hours making them right on Amazon's software or pay someone on Fivver to do it for me. Now I have all my preferences saved as a profile and I can see exactly how the book will look before I finalize it. Not to mention being able to do the print and Kindle versions in one fell swoop. Amazing!

Many other independent publishers have said only good things about ATTICUS. I went with the high praise and am pleased I bought the software. I just finished formatting my first book. The software is easy to use, and the features are intuitive. I love the preview feature, which allows you to see your changes in real time as you go. The program has numerous views: print, iPhone, tablet, Galaxy, etc. I had tried a different formatting program on my first book, and it failed regarding images. Atticus has many ways to optimize and format pictures, graphics, charts, etc., for the most visually appealing placement within, behind, and around the text. I am delighted by the look of my pages. I also appreciate the theme templates already set for a particular look. With that being said, there are so many features you can adjust to your liking.

Customer service is where Atticus really shines. Timely, comprehensive and professional. Email questions are answered promptly, even on weekend. They are knowledgeable and handled my inquiries well.

If I could change anything, it would be the image gallery. I want a button to go right to my images. I like how the images are in the order you load them, but thumbnail views would be better for identification and maintenance. This does not affect my star rating. The price is spot on—one price, period. Such good value for all the features Atticus provides. I recommend it highly, just like my peers did for me!

Atticus makes book layout a joy! This step in publishing used to stress me out. With Atticus, I feel supported in creating every part of my book interior. I appreciate the templates and thought put into the platform. And their team is fantastic. Highly recommend.

I have a difficult time using this software. It's very slow and it has a lot of bugs and issues and I want other people to know about that before they purchase like I did. I can't get my money back on it and try for a different program so I want others to know that this program has a lot of issues. If you don't need to write much it's fine and if you follow their guidelines it can be easy to use but do all the editing on it before you upload the chapters. Do as little editing as possible in the Atticus app. It can get very frustrating using it. I have a right to tell people that.

bought Atticus on day one of the public beta. Before that, I’d used everything—Scrivener, Jutoh, InDesign, Word, and various automatic formatting tools. Each program handled a different part of the publishing process, and I was constantly switching between them just to get a single book finished. I had one tool for writing, another for paperback formatting, another for eBooks—and it was overwhelming.

What I needed was something in the middle: a place where I could set up a theme, pick my images, and trust that the rest would just work. Atticus delivered. Even in the early beta, I could see the potential. And within a year, it had replaced every other tool I used. It’s now my all-in-one platform for writing, editing, and formatting.

My first Atticus book launch was a failure. I contacted support and relayed my problem along with the error preventing me from launching my book. Lizzie from the support group diagnosed the issue in no time and emailed me easy step-by-step directions to resolve it. I was able to launch that same day without difficulty. Thanks again to Lizzie at the Atticus Support Group for your help.

Had a technical issue that Monique & team resolved for me. They were quick to respond and very helpful. Had a follow-up question on another topic, and Monique again quickly reached back out to answer it for me. Cannot say enough about the kindness, quality, and personal attention they give. Would highly recommend Atticus to any writer out there!

Atticus is my go-to writing place. The writing software is so easy to use and adaptive.
I can't decide whether I am going to write a how-to non fiction, memoir, Children's book, or an Adult Mystery Thriller. With Atticus I can do all of them, and keep all my work together, no matter if they are all in different stages of writing.
Atticus is always surprising me with updates, new resources, blogs and tons of information.

Atticus will NEVER replace a human artist. Book interior design and layout done by a human is a craft that will always be in a class by itself. There are so many complications of the process and features that Atticus TRIES to emulate, but the end result makes the author look like EVERY OTHER author. It offers ways to customize, yes, but only as their framework allows. So many companies attempt to replace the human touch and automate the process, but it's easy to spot a layout that's used this software. An experienced human designer will use Adobe InDesign (professional software) to design and format a book interior. Do not be swayed by their sales pitch and MAKE NO MISTAKE—if you want to STAND OUT and not look like a sheep, hire a book designer who is a real human being, a real artist. Have the guts to stand apart from the crowd.

I am a blind Christian. I am part of the gospel group The Greatest Gift, and the radio program The Spirit Calls. I have been unable to export my PDF for a week no matter what I do.I can't export it in DOCX either to do a workaround for Amazon margins. Their help desk is pathetic, The concept is great but the execution awful.

Frustratingly slow, the lag on characters appearing on the screen after I type them is ridiculous. This is enough to send me back to MS Word, even though I have paid for Atticus. I'll use it just for formatting, and even then, I have to export it back into Word to tweak it.

Others here have questioned the four and five star reviews, and I can’t help but agree. Since writing the above paragraph, I have tried to use the formatting functionality, and that is just more work and effort than simply using styles in Word. I hated using this software, but I must praise Atticus for giving me a refund with no questions asked.

Vellum is a far superior product for formatting or hell, send it to me and I will do it for $80 in good old Microsoft Word styles

There is absolutely no way other people are rating this four and five stars. I'm convinced they're paid reviews. I purchased this probably almost two years ago and it has been NONSTOP issues! The most recent? I was suddenly kicked off the site saying my 'session was expired' and lost all of my work for the last two and half hours! Awesome. I'm so beyond done with Atticus.

This software could be great if it worked correctly half of the time. I run into issues formatting it into a PDF for Kindle almost every time I try to use it. Sometimes, you have to change the settings so you don't have two sentences on one whole page before the next chapter. It never fails that this app lags and can't process the PDF. And sometimes, it loses chapters. Again, it would be perfect if the owners of this software fixed the millions of glitches. It is frustrating when you want to get your book uploaded and published on KDP or other platforms. I can't tell you how many times I have had to contact support regarding all the different issues. GRRRRR.

TL:DR: It's excruciatingly slow, the epub files corrupt in netgalley

The software is incredibly buggy. Trying to add in chapter icons, chapter titles, and chapter subtitles is so slow I thought I would lose my mind. Each action takes 5 to 10 seconds to process, which doesn't sound like a lot until you're in the middle of it. Then I would move to the next chapter only to find that the changes I just made would disappear. I wasted days trying to get it to work.

After emailing their help line, they sent me to an older version that worked better. However, when I exported the epub for netgalley, it screwed up the formatting, so everyone who downloaded my book got a hot mess. I spent money on the netgalley subscription only to get negative feedback about the formatting. When I asked Atticus for a refund, they said I was past the 30-day refund window, but could I please help them troubleshoot the problem for free? Which is absolutely wild and audacious to ask me to do free labor for their benefit with nothing in return for my lost time and money. I had to get InDesign and learn a whole new program so my netgalley payment didn't end in only bad reviews, and then they want more of my labor. I suggested they pay me for my time. I'm an indie author, everything comes out of my pocket, and Atticus cost me time and money. I rather spend my time leaving a review warning other authors that this is not a prudent place to invest their money, especially if this is their response.

The software does not work as advertised, which should be reason enough to refund us. Had I known ahead of time, I would have bought Vellum then used a virtual machine on windows. Instead I'm out the money I put into Atticus, and paying for another software right now is out of my budget. I'd suggest Vellum or you can find good YouTube tutorials for formatting in InDesign. The plus side of Adobe InDesign is that you can sign up for a $23 subscription then unsubscribe, but there is a greater learning curve especially if you want to add chapter icons or more advanced formatting like drop caps.

Since the day I purchased Atticus.io, I have NEVER regretted my purchase or been dissatisfied with any part of it. Everyone there has gone way above and beyond anything I expected. The Staff has ALWAYS been kind, helpful and understanding. No question is stupid and/or a bother. They treat everyone like loving family members.

Atticus io, to me, is a true Writer's Paradise. They supply everything a writer could possibly need and/or want to be successful. They are constantly updating as times change as well.

I can assure you that if you purchase Atticus io, you will never regret it. They truly care about you and your success. It honestly doesn't get any better than Atticus io.

Like other commenters, I want to love Atticus - and for my first two books, I did - but with the most recent one, heck, the slow syncing is driving me crazy. A friend sitting with me as I made edits said, how on earth are you dealing with this?!
The slow syncing means it's not saved changes and I haven't realised so have to go back and make them again.
It's incredibly frustrating waiting for it to sync as I move from chapter to chapter, wanting to see the preview to check page breaks, etc.
I don't know what can be done about it, but I really hope it can be fixed. It used to be GREAT and I'm not a Mac user so please, Dave Chesson, fix it!

Company expects you to watch hours and hours of tutorials that are not even accurate and skip steps,tool is not intuitive at all and seems more like something for seasoned editors,support is pretty nonexistent. If you are not an experienced editor don't buy it at all.

I've been for hours figuring out how to make the system understand that my uploaded doc has chapters and is not a single chapter in the whole book. Madness.
