So,so, so slow. Easily 5 mins from adjusting the formatting in the writing screen to switching to formatting the check. Allow 3 - 4 days to format a book.

I wanted to love it. I had used GoogleDocs and OpenOffice but didn't want Google Docs because it gets delayed in typing my words which really impedes me when I'm on a roll and I was looking for something a bit more writer oriented than OpenOffice. I liked Atticus's TOC/layout and although I had Vellum, I wanted more freedom with formatting. Lastly, I trusted Dave Chesson and after looking at reviews thought he'd built something that was headed to a good place.

Atticus is not great in compatibility (your word docs may not import or if you edit it and try to reimport it won't work), limited as a word processor, and, now, has actually gotten worse. Lately when I'm trying to write and it's constantly syncing. My word target frequently wont appear (and that's the only way to see how much I've written). But the worst, for my writing style, is if I have 1 hour to write, I'll get a good 15-20 minutes out of it. The rest is retyping or correcting (like position will suddenly change or I try to put something in italics and it changes where I am in the chapter and it never gets the italics or I highlight something to delete and it deletes only one character) or waiting for it to finish syncing. This, is essence, is waaay slower than google docs.

I haven't lost anything yet but it feels like it's just a matter of time tbh, especially after looking at more recent posts and reviews since I bought it. My faith is shaken.

I also didn't realize how much I put little flags in my writing or notes to myself and this is just not easily done in Atticus the way it can be done in a word processor.

I will probably migrate to Scrivener. It looks intimidating but it's tried and true. The most important thing for me as a writer (beyond not losing my work) is not impeding my flow and Atticus is the worst for that. I've tried using it offline and that might resolve the issue but I don't see how to do that without literally being offline and I need an online thesaurus tbh.

When it works, it is fantastic. It is everything one would want in book composition application. When it fails, it is miserable. Support is mediocre; I don't blame them as they are working with the paucity of information given to them. Connectivity issues are infrequent, but when they happen, they are serious and come with a "you have to understand" caveat. Looking up the problems that I have encountered, well they keep on repeating. I want to love it. I want to give it five stars.

Atticus is a great program. I've used it for over a year now and it just keeps getting better. They are constantly working on Atticus and upgrading it and adding new features.

The awesome part is once you purchase Atticus, you have access to all future updates. There are no additional fees and no need to purchase a new version.

And to make this even better, they have an excellent customer service team/support team! For most questions if sent during regular business hours they get back to you right away, usually within 4 hours, though of all the questions that I've asked and gotten prompt answers to, I've only had to wait that long once and that was because I was asking about how Dragon NaturallySpeaking software works with the program. It didn't used to work that great, but it works fine for me now. Constantly upgrading… I love it!

I've used Atticus for over two years and Scrivener before that. Have also evaluated Living Writer and Reedsy quite extensively. I am currently writing two novels in Atticus. One as of this moment is 109,825 words and estimate the other around 50,000.

The reason I started with Atticus was for its formatting prowess, not the word Prosser. At the time Atticus was relatively new, with the promise of fast coming enhancements. The word processor is not only rudimentary but also very unstable. Also, the promised improvements were an empty promise to sell the software. There have been zero meaningful improvements. No one realistically expects the massive, author specific, features of Scrivener, of which I only used a fraction. Or even all the basic features of other mainline word processors like MS WORD and GOOGLE DOCS.

For two years I've repeatedly suggested specific every day simple features with zero forthcoming. And reported the unstable word processor problems. Yet, they keep occurring.

Love this program. Write our first two books the traditional way. Atticus is going to make our third book look outstanding. Love the features and I don’t have to try and put in page numbers or headers and footers! What a relief!! Fantastic customer service- I will never use a regular word processor again!

I just love seeing my books come to life with Atticus. The variety and range of tools built into this software is amazing.

Formatting made easy. I am so glad I purchased Atticus--and I did a lot of research before I made my decision. The program is pretty intuitive and when you have questions their customer service team is amazing. On a Saturday night, a deadline looming and almost in tears, I sent off a message and had a reply when I woke! Worth every penny!

My computer skills are pretty basic, so I wasn't optimistic about being able to master a book formatting tool, but the 30-day money back guarantee encouraged me to give it a try. The Atticus tutorials were easy to follow, I even found myself enjoying the process! Customer Support was great, responding promptly and very helpfully to any queries. I strongly recommend Atticus, was very impressed!

I have just self-published my short-story collection, "Seven Tales Of Sacrifice" on Amazon thanks to Atticus software. After getting my stories together on Word I looked at the options for formatting and decided to give Atticus a go.
I'm very pleased I did. In just a short while I had formatted the entire text for print and eBook distribution, and was then able to check it through and send it to Amazon for approval. I've just got my copies through and they look great!
What I also liked about the service was that my couple of queries were answered promptly and very helpfully. Knowing this back-up is there has been very reassuring.
So as someone with no connection to Atticus, and who has never self-published or used formatting software before, would I recommend it? Definitely. I also signed up for the related Kindlepreneur package, and that has been really useful too. Top marks all round!

I've used different formatting programs for novels and anthologies, and Atticus is by FAR my favorite. While it's not always 100% intuitive, any time I've had an issue (big or small) the support has been both timely and incredibly helpful. Huge shoutout to Monique, who has assisted me in such a friendly, professional, and effective manner with this latest project. I encourage any editor or writer to use Atticus, even if it entails a bit of a learning curve at times (just like any software).

Atticus has been great! It's helped me publish my first book and I couldn't be happier with the results:)

If I ever need any help in anything, Atticus is there will great assistance and I can always rely on them. I wouldn't use any other program for my books and intend to continue using them for ALL books in the future.

Since I have joined Atticus, writing has been much more fun. It allows me to make my books professional looking and include things in my books that I would have never thought about. The customer service is amazing. Recently I inadvertently deleted a book that I just finished. I had not made a recent copy, so I was really upset. I contacted Atticus and Monique quicky responded. After I gave her all the information she needed, they were able to restore my book. I was beyond happy. So often in our would of horrible customer service, finally a company that really cares about their customers. They also make great how-to video's and are always coming up with better ways to make my books look and read better. Atticus and the people who work there are real friends for people like me who enjoy writing but need a little help getting my books to not only look great but make them much easier to publish.

I managed to cruise through safeguards (no... really... you have to be an idiot!) and delete a whole book project before back-up (only a few day's work, but hard to repeat). To my surprise, the response to my weekend SOS came within hours. I expected a flat, "Not possible to recover; Be more careful next time!" to arrive the next business day.

My contact person was sympathetic and reassuring that the team would make every effort. She clearly listed the info I should supply for the tech team. Before the weekend was over, they had restored my file.

This level of service would stand out anywhen or where, but so much more so in these sad, diminished times.

The Atticus team won my gratitude and highest praise!

Over the last year, I've published five books that I formatted with Atticus software. I'm delighted with the product. It's easy to upload a Word document and Atticus automatically sets up the chapters. Then you can easily make changes and export a PDF or epub. It's made things really easy and I can't wait to work with more of the formatting options. It also doesn't cost much and customer support has been great when I've had questions. I highly recommend!

The support is not that good not that bad. They answer fairy quickly, and in details but only in emails. Sometimes it's good but most of the times I have to do everything... They have me do all the work. Testing this testing that. They could just recreate the problem on there and give me a solution, side but no, I have to debug everything. I guess they use my info and time as a way to understand and then fix the issue for everyone else. That's the problem with companies who sell a product that is not well tested. It's a great idea, but many things need to be looked over in order to function efficiently... Atticus is pretty good, but the team needs to keep evolving with technology and its users needs, without having its users do the work. I feel I work for them at times...

Atticus allowed me to format my book all by myself and publish two books, a non fiction and a fiction book without having to hire someone outside. It was nice to be able to, before the books were done, to send formatted manuscripts and samples out. Support was excellent, always responded promptly to my issues. There are few little kinks in the platform, some odd issues came up with login, and I don't like how I need to be connected to the internet to work on it, but these are minor compared what a major difference it made in my self publishing. I highly recommend Atticus.
