Misleading information on Autovia Website
When I arrived at the counter with my booking confirmation I was advised that the rental was not confirmed in writing. I received two emails confirming my booking, but never received the confirmation. Mia culpa for not following up, but the instruction to confirm the booking only written in Italian and I was advised at the counter that a confirmation is required. Finally, I returned the car 1 and a half days earlier and according to their policy on the website, I should have been entitled to a 1 day refund. My response is Sorry Autovia I will not be a return customer and I cannot recommend you. The response from Autovia customer support is:
Dear Customer,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to amend the invoice or obtain a refund for the day not used, we are sorry.

We kwamen helaas met 2 uur vertraging…
We kwamen helaas met 2 uur vertraging aan, en bij aankomst werd onze creditcard helaas in eerste instantie geweigerd, omdat niet de volledige naam zichtbaar was (alleen voorletter voornaam + achternaam).
Uiteindelijk tot een compromis gekomen door extra te betalen voor dekking van schade, en wij kregen een gratis upgrade voor een grotere auto, plus gratis kinderzitje. Heel coulant en zeker gewaardeerd.

Nooit via Autovia.
Had ik maar eerst de reviews gelezen, dan was ik nu geen €500 armer. En ze was toch zo vriendelijk, Veronica aan de balie in Rome. Uiteraard want ze wist dat ze ons ging oplichten. De verzekering die we genomen hadden was frauduleus zei ze, een vorm van fishing. Op de manier waarop ze dit bracht geloofde ik haar 100%. Achteraf bleek dat die volledig in orde was. We moesten een verzekering bij Autovia nemen anders kregen we de wagen niet mee! €500 en we konden vertrekken. Wat doe je dan als vermoeide toerist, betalen. BOEK NOOIT BIJ AUTOVIA!

het spijt ons dat u deze ervaring heeft gehad, maar wij kunnen niet accepteren dat wordt gesteld dat ons personeel bewust de bedoeling had u op te lichten.
Een verzekering die via een tussenpersoon is afgesloten, staat los van de beschermingspakketten van Autovia en heeft eigen voorwaarden en terugbetalingsprocedures. Dat betekent niet dat deze verzekering frauduleus of ongeldig is. De aanvullende beschermingspakketten van Autovia zijn andere producten en het afsluiten ervan is vrijwillig.
Gezien wat u beschrijft over de informatie aan de balie en het bedrag van €500, vinden wij dat deze specifieke situatie moet worden gecontroleerd. Als de kwestie nog niet is opgehelderd, kunt u contact opnemen via customercare@autovia.it met uw reserveringsgegevens.

No customer support
They offer chinese cars instead of the ones advertised. I booked a Golf. This oftens happens but wanted a 'normal' car.
The girl at Rome was very good, however, my issue is if something goes wrong with the car, which it did. No one answers the phone and you are stranded.

we are sorry about the problem you experienced with the vehicle and, above all, about the difficulty in receiving telephone assistance when you needed it.
A booking is for a vehicle category and does not guarantee a specific model or brand, so the car provided may differ from the one shown as an example during the booking process.
The assistance issue is different: when a problem occurs with the vehicle, customers should be able to receive support. We are therefore sorry for what you describe and will take your feedback into account.

Absolutely horrific experience do not use this company. Arrived at desk in Rome with my 3 kids. From first moment I got to desk it was as if I was never getting the pre paid rental car - Veronica at the desk incredibly unhelpful. My credit card had my initials and even after showing my online banking to prove the card was registered to myself, having my passport and driving license and other cards in my full name, Veronica refused to proceed with my booking. I have not had a response from Customer service to my complaint. I will be escalating this matter legally. WORST CAR RENTAL EXPERIENCE.

A physical credit card in the customer’s name is required for vehicle collection. The name shown on the card must correspond with the documents provided and, where only initials or abbreviated names appear, card ownership must be clearly verifiable.
As you state that you also provided supporting banking documentation, we believe the circumstances at the desk need to be reviewed specifically. If your complaint has not yet been handled, please contact customercare@autovia.it with your booking details and, if available, the reference to your previous complaint.
