Refused to Refund
I've been using Clio for several years now and had a positive experience. The online payment part is slick, and it helps me run my business efficiently.
I bought another license for an employee. But after I no longer needed it, Clio charged me for an additional year. I asked for a refund several days after the charge, and Clio refused, costing me a significant amount of money.
I was disappointed by this experience, and am now reconsidering my practice management software.

Overpromised and Underdelivered â Still Waiting After Two Years
I was an early adopter of Clio when they launched in Australia, drawn in by big promises of seamless integrations, efficient automation, and a fully functional payment system â all supposedly available within six months. Two years later, Iâm still waiting.
The integrations I was assured of are still unavailable. The Clio Payments system has failed to deliver what it promises â many aspects of it remain manual and clunky. Support is hit-and-miss: Iâve had tickets go unanswered for weeks. When I do get a response, it often lacks accountability or action. Clio is quick to deflect but slow to take ownership.
I feel misled and disappointed. I invested early with the belief that Clio would support the needs of an Australian legal practice. Instead, Iâm stuck with a practice management system that doesnât meet its own standards â and doesnât seem to care.
If youâre considering Clio, especially in Australia, proceed with caution. Their sales promises may not match the reality of what youâll actually receive.

Will not work without buying the entire clio suite, completely useless. Customer service is nonexistent. They continued billing my card for six months after I cancelled the account and was locked out. Can't get any response from Clio Draft and they simply say "someone will call you" - which hasn't happened for the past two weeks. Avoid.

Extremely Disappointed with Clio Draft â A Costly and Frustrating Experience
After a full year of using Clio Draft, I can confidently say it has been one of the most disappointing professional investments Iâve ever made. What was promised to be an efficient and reliable tool for legal document automation has turned out to be unstable, glitch-ridden, and incredibly frustrating to use.
The system crashes frequently, freezes without warning, and routinely deletes or corrupts vital information. Documents I carefully prepared have had data mysteriously erased or replaced with incorrect information. Even worse, Iâve had signed documents appear complete on my end, only to later find that the versions sent were completely blankâan unacceptable and damaging flaw for any legal practice.
Despite countless hours spent on Zoom calls with their tech support team, there has been no resolution. Iâve been repeatedly told to clear my cache, re-enter lost data, and redo hours of workâall while receiving the same canned response: âuser error.â Their troubleshooting feels more like a cycle of guesswork than actual support, and no one has taken real responsibility for the ongoing failures.
To make matters worse, I was informed that canceling my subscription would mean permanent loss of all my data. Thatâs not just inconvenientâitâs coercive, and it shows a shocking lack of regard for their usersâ time, trust, and legal obligations.
Clio Draft has cost me far more than just the subscription fee. The stress, wasted hours, and the impact on my ability to serve clients effectively have been immeasurable. I would strongly urge anyone considering this platform to look elsewhere. Whether you're a solo attorney or a member of a larger firm, your practiceâand your clientsâdeserve better.

Using such forceful tactics to retain customers
This is honestly the worst software ever created. Not only has it been unusable 90% of the time, but it also sent documents to clients that werenât theirs, deleted data, and was extremely slow. If you forget to name a signature package, finding it again is nearly impossible and a huge hassle. Their "customer success" team is rude and patronizing (excluding Cory, he was amazing and fully willing to help however he could), and the list of issues goes on.
Their "solution" to a year of frustration was to offer a credit. However, this credit can only be used upon renewal. We were offered a $432.24 credit, but in order to retrieve that credit, we had to pay $1,467.76. Additionally, we have now lost access to our data, which is being held hostage unless we pay that amount to renew.
We were specifically told, âNo changes can be made to a canceled subscription. You can adjust seats and products after renewal. Changes are automatically credited to the account and applied to future invoices.â This further forces future purchases of this abomination of a software.
It is extremely disappointing that a company is using such forceful tactics to retain customers. I fully understand that software takes time to develop and that bugs can occur; however, forcing customers into a purchase after frustration upon frustration is mind-boggling.
Clio Email Management System Email Module is Crap
Clio Email Management System is Crap. Honestly. If you have to track historical emails from matters its impossible in Clio. Communication is the heart of case management and Clio seriously lacks this feature. I was told that there is a new update coming but no further news.
Clunky product and inadequate support
I picked Clio because I was impressed by their marketing, particularly testimonials from other solo lawyers or small firms about the simplicity of set up, the efficiency of its automations and its suitability for solo firms with ambitions to grow. I was looking for a client intake and management system that would be simple, quick and intuitive to set up and help me run my practice now and in the future as it hopefully grows. I subscribed to Clio Complete Premium which includes Clio Manage and Clio Grow and a premium onboarding package to get personal support in setting up my systems. The set up support I received was two short video calls with a non technical member of their staff in which I was shown what needs to be setup and afterwards sent links to guides on Clioâs website. I was not given or offered any technical support actually setting up Clio. When I tried setting up myself I found it confusing and counterintuitive. I was disappointed that many of the elements that I assumed would be customisable are not. For example, 1. it is impossible to add firm details such as registered office, company number or VAT number at the bottom of the letterhead, 2. the call to action button on the website builder âBook a consultâ (a phrase not used in the UK) cannot be changed. Clio claims to offer support 24/5. I found their telephone support helpful some of the time for quick queries but not suitable for help setting up and certainly not a replacement for the premium onboarding setup I had paid for and expected. I found Clioâs email support slow (delays of 12 hours are common) and impractical. For some reason Clioâs email support responses do not include the customerâs original query which (along with the slowness of the response) makes it difficult, slow and frustrating when trying to make progress. Overall I was so disappointed by my experience of Clio that I cancelled my subscription. The product has lots of functionality (arguably too much) but in my experience it does none of them particularly well, it looks and feels clunky (like itâs a mishmash of legacy products), there are too many glitches, compromises and illogical limitations, and they provide inadequate support both when setting up and more generally.
BE AWARE we are a 10 person niche lawâŠ
Beware we are a 10 person niche law firm and this package does not: -
Some positives (see below) but our specific experience hasn't been good at all and we feel obligated to share for others
1. DOES NOT Allow each lawyer to see their own stats (bills, WIP as against targets etc) without seeing all the firms accounting data and all others stats, meaning we have to manually print and share each lawyers monthly billing, WIP and time records!!;
2. DOES NOT Allow you to report on file sources i.e. where a client came from and the amount you billed - this is crucial for tracking referrals and work sources
3. On your billing it does not even subtract VAT when you produce reports - we have to do it manually
We were told it did all this, it does not and we are leaving them to go back to Quill or to Leap.
If you are small and just want a file management and bill chasing system then its good, if you need more, its not fit for use and the support is remote, call centre based with no access to anyone who can really help other than directing you to videos and showing you what the system does, very impersonal
