We had a rental car from firefly ( hertz) at Cape Town airport . It was great experience. Every thing went well . Thanks for the professional staff !

As so many other posts we rented a car at Malaga airport and was scammed into paying for super cover when we already had insurance. We disputed the payment when we came home and noticed it had been taken off our credit card and was called up by the agent at Malaga airport to argue the case! Total infringement of privacy! We asked him what extra insurance super cover would give us and he could not answer. We were only charged upon returning the car so what insurance was that? Probably so we wouldn’t argue when returning the car. Luckily we have been recharged the amount on our credit card . So beware, service agents are paid commission on extra insurance so tried everything to dupe you into signing. seems to be a Spanish / Firefly thing as we have never encountered this before. Lessons learned ; pay with credit card, don’t use Thrifty Hertz or Dollar, argue your case , read the small print and ask what you are actually signing.

It's a scam. Never hire a car with them.

We booked the car online though expedia for a reasonable price (40USD) plus a total cover insurance. In the contract they specifically say that our booking included all taxes, fees and all mandatory cover in Mexico. However, when we arrive at the rental office everything changes.

They start adding fees to the contract; IVA, fuel, airport fee, vehicle license fee, transaction fee, etc. And they also tell us that the insurance we paid for doesnt work in Mexico, so we have to pay a new insurance, and a deposit.

From initially having to pay 40USD for the car, we ended up paying 400USD and a deposit of 300 USD. Plus, we paid for the first 100USD which we didn't even use.

Normally I would have left and not rent the car, but in that moment we had no other choice and they take advantage of it.

Angeblich funktionierte meine Visa Karte nicht, die ich auf der Reise täglich benutzt hatte und nie Probleme aufgetreten waren.
Wir sollten dann den Mietwagen umbuchen auf den Namen meiner Frau und mit dessen Visa Karte zahlen. Die Umbuchung hätte an die 250,- Euro gekostet. Hier ging es uns ums Prinzip. Wir haben den Vertrag gekündigt und sind zu einem renommierten Verleiher gegangen.

After eventually finding the Firefly office (no signs in airport) office was closed with a sign directing customers to Hertz.

Hertz staff treated us like second class customers. They took great pleasure in mocking our car hire booking and using fear to charge for additional insurance.

Car hire seems to be a hugh organised scam.

On arrival to Hertz, hiring on behalf of Firefly. I was told "I probably didn't read the small print" and "the terms had changed" I was told I had to pay €3500 deposit, when my original agreement was £1300. I didn't have a credit limit that high on my credit card. The whole ordeal was VERY stressful! I was told to pay €450 for there in-house insurance cover, which I didn't require as I had sourced a 3rd party cover. I was then told to pay €250 which I refused. I had to pay €2000 for a car that was below the standard I wanted. V poor.

When in Valencia, Spain, if you are looking for a car rental company that

- tries to upsell
- falsifies your contract, while selling you unwanted additional insurances, but obliges you to sign nevertheless, in order to get your car key
- delivers a car to you that lacks 1/8 fuel in the tank
- confirms to you, at the return of the car, more than 4 hours in advance, that everything is OK, knowing that the car is returned with a full 8/8 tank
- refuses to sign the receipt of the car return
- charges you afterwards, at a fake invoice, for unwanted insurances, for missing fuel - that in reality was missing at the beginning of the rental, not at the return- for imaginative administration work
- simply ignores your repeated pieces of evidence that the only wrongdoing took place at the Firefly side
- keeps bugging you for more than 10 months, while menacing you with law enforcement
- doesn't compensate you for the damage done to you:

if all of this pleases you, then there is only one possible choice for a car rental in Valencia, Spain:

go for Firefly Car Rentals, knowing what experience you will do.

Based on my experience, I don’t recommend doing business with Firefly (the Hertz operator in Iceland).

I had a prepaid reservation with Firefly. I canceled the reservation two weeks before the start of the scheduled car rental, making me eligible for a full refund. It’s now been 5 weeks since I cancelled the reservation and I have yet to receive a refund.

I am continuing to work with Firefly, Hertz & now my credit card company to resolve this situation. Bummer that I have to continue to spend time working on receiving a refund that I’m unambiguously entitled to.

Firefly needs to become an honest and responsive business operator, which based on my experience Firefly currently is definitely not.

I have not even picked up the car. I have tried to contact them via email several times with zero response so its not off to a good start

Can only say this: “Worst car rental experience ever,” Firefly are forcing full insurance, dismissing credit card validity, and aggressive upselling. They slap on an insurance cost that they keep. DO NOT EVER USE THEM!! You will be so disappointed! Malaga airport

Unser Flug hatte Verspätung- etwas mehr als eine Stunde. Der Schalter in Lissabon hatte bereits geschlossen. Die Hauptgesellschaft Hertz war beauftragt, uns das Auto nur für 140,- Aufpreis zu geben. Den mitgebuchten Zweitfahrer wollten sie auch nicht mehr eintragen. Vorsicht mit den Verträgen. Kleingedrucktes lesen. Für mich ist die Firma nicht vertrauenswürdig.

After booking and reading reviews, I was nervous about this company! My experience was good from start to finish. I paid a great price for a 7 seater which was in good condition (although there was a scratch which wasn’t documented!)
The lady was friendly & helpful. They won’t accept photos of damage so you have to have them inspect it with you and take note! But overall a good experience and no additional unexpected charges (as yet!)

De opererer med ulike typer av svindelmetoder; juks med forsikring, juks med tilbakebetaling av depositum, legger på ulovlige "flyplassavgifter" og lignende.

Leide bil fra dem i en uke sommeren 2024 (Malaga flyplass) og kommer ALDRI til å benytte dem igjen.

Velg heller en seriøs aktør, så slipper du et mareritt i etterkant av ferieoppholdet.

Ich fliege oft und leihe mir Autos und weiß (eigentlich) wie man verarscht wird, wenn zusätzliche Dienste angeboten werden. Jetzt hat es mich auch erwischt. Autovermietung Firefly in Malaga Airport: Wie hier schon oft beschrieben, wird man hier tatsächlich angelogen, wenn man fragt, was der Betrag auf der rechten Seite des Formulars unter "Estimated charges" darstellen soll. Angeblich ist das der "normale" Betrag, der zu zahlen wäre, wenn man nicht über Autoeurope bzw. Billigermietwagen gebucht hätte (Der Betrag war auch höher als der bereits gezahlte Mietbetrag.) Und auf der linken Seite des Formulars, steht dann auch bei den Mietdetails überall die Null (diese Null-Beträge soll man alle einzeln unterschreiben, Augenwischerei).
Die erwarteten Beträge (estimated charges) wurden nicht manuell ergänzt, sondern waren schon auf dem ausgedruckten Formular vorhanden.
Es wurde tatsächlich gesagt, wir müssten auf keinen Fall etwas dazu bezahlen, weil ja alles schon im Voraus bezahlt wurde.
Es wurde mir also zusätzlich zu den bereits abgebuchten Wert über die Kreditkarte der zweite noch höhere Wert auch noch abgebucht.
Beschwerden bei Billigermietwagen und Autoeurope brachten überhaupt nichts, sie sind nur Vermittler.

Fazit: Nichts unterschreiben, falls noch andere Beträge irgendwo im Formular stehen bzw. durchstreichen und ein Foto machen.

Wij zijn extreem onbeschoft behandeld toen wij de auto gingen ophalen. Wij wilden geen verzekering, wij werden afgeleid omdat de medewerkster van Thrifty Car Rental zwaaide met onze Visa Gold en zei; "dit is jullie verzekering". Wij ondertekenden het formulier. Eenmaal terug in Nederland zagen we dat er een kleine € 400,00 afgeschreven was voor de all risk verzekering; op een rijtje op het formulier (tussen enkele nullen) stond er: verzekering geaccepteerd, dat was ons niet opgevallen. Nadat wij vorig jaar een verschrikkelijke ervaring hadden gehad bij FireFly dachten we bij een andere autoverhuurmaatschappij terecht te zijn gekomen toen we online een auto huurden bij Thrifty. Onze verbazing was groot toen wij op het parkeerterrein van het vliegveld van Valencia terecht kwamen bij hetzelfde kantoor van FireFly en dezelfde medewerkster als het jaar daarvoor. Thrifty was dus hetzelfde als FireFly? Oh, nee!. Toen ik een, blijkbaar, ongemakkelijke vraag stelde aan die medewerkster omtrent de verzekering gaf ze een vreemd antwoord, iets geks over AVG (ik ben Spaanse en spreek vloeiend Spaans). Vanaf dat moment werd zij hoogst onaangenaam, maakte me mij voor van alles en nog wat uit en verzekerde mij dat wij geen auto mee zouden krijgen, zo maar! Ik zei dat zij ons niet zo maar een auto kon ontzeggen en zij verzekerde ons dat wij geen contract met Thrifty hadden maar met de intermediair (?!), toen ik zei dat de naam van Thrifty op de overeenkomst stond zei ze dat wij de intermediair moesten bellen om te annuleren, toen ik zei dat zij dat zelf moest doen als zij dat nodig vond belde ze zogenaamd op, maar volgens haar nam niemand op. Toen maakte zij mij nogmaals voor van alles en nog wat uit en uiteindelijk kregen we een auto mee. Wij lazen niet meer goed wat wij ondertekenden. Ik heb nog nooit zoiets meegemaakt! Daarbij kwam het dat de auto erg vies was aan de binnenkant, maar omdat het in de garage zo donker was zagen we het pas de volgende ochtend toen wij op 100 km afstand van Valencia waren. Nooit meer Thrifty en nooit meer FireFly.

I hired a car online from Thrifty, but I was directed to Firefly as they had no working base in Malaga. The transaction was easy , apart from the queue to get served. I was directed to sign all the applicable sections and did so. They guy who served me said there would be an additional charge for the fuel and lost keys but this would be fully refunded to me at the end. The charge was about £186. After I returned home I noticed that the charge was permanent. I had signed up for supercover, something I didn't need as I already had excess cover. The lesson for me is always read all the paperwork before signing. Additionally, don't be so trusting, and never use Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty and Firefly again. If you look online you'll see many similar complaints so beware

Don't ever use this company - if I could give zero stars I would. I booked from home and in the voucher it said that I should only pay for the additional driver - €26. When we picked up the car they said we should pay a diposit of €149. But it turned out not to be a diposit but additional pay. We have still nok recieved the money back 7 month after the rental.

Vi afleverede vores bil sidste mandag aften i lufthavnen i Malaga. Tanken var fuld og vi fik at vide at bilen var godkendt. I dag en uge senere har jeg så modtaget en opkrævning for to skader på bilen som jeg ikke er blevet foreholdt hverken da jeg aflevere bilen og den blev gennemgået eller før de opkrævede regningen for selvrisikoen. Heldigvis har vi optaget videoer og de to skader som der bliver henvist til var på bilen ved lejens start. Efter at vi har tilbage vist deres påstand er der stilhed fra dem og vi er alt andet end imponerede over den måde at drive forretning på. Så læren må være at få alt dokumenteret.

Recently hired a car from Firefly car hire the car I was given was not the car I paid for it was not very clean and had a number of issues mechanical that I would question there quality checks before customer pick up cars. They also took payments from my credit card after my return with no explanation at all. I did make a complaint they replied asking for more information that I provided. Now they have gone silent on me with no update and me being out of pocket. Also contacted Hertz that own Firely and they are just as bad. I would be very wary if you hire a car from them and get confirmation that they will not take payments that are not due. They are very pushy at desk to get you to take additional insurance even if you have adequate cover. Very poor all round
