We bought chipped bark Beds and Borders in 70 L bags and the bark size is stated as 20mm - 40mm. However, the bark pieces are much bigger, my estimate is an average of 60mm with many pieces over 120mm.

Their 3 litre Resolva weed killer fails after half contents still left to use. Useless design.
I tried reporting to Customer Services but Westlands website form is broken too. A shambles.

Purchased several bags of compost with added John Innes. Full of sprouting fungi and when in use more spores are growing causing further fungi.
I have twice contacted Westlandâs customer service team sending them a photograph and batch details etc but they didnât even bother to acknowledge or answer my enquiry.

I was disgusted with the Westland part free multi purpose compost we bought this year. Every year I plant and grow beans successfully but this time we bought Westland compost which I found to be full of bits of wood and infested with mould and fungus growth. I don't know what is wrong with the seedlings it has produced but they definitely seem nothing like the normal healthy plants I get each year, although have done just the same as I always do. I certainly won't be buying this awful stuff again!

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
the worst compost i have ever used .less than a third of seeds grew . will never use again.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
This is the second year I have bought Westland peat free all purpose compost for growing tomato, peppers, aubergines, cucumbers and chilli in a greenhouse. This year, the results are exactly the same as last year in that none of the plants grew in a healthy condition. Many died after transplanting from seed compost, whilst others fail to produce a healthy root system and barely grow. For the second year running, I now have to buy young plants from a garden centre and pot them into a compost that commercial growers recommend. I know many gardeners and growers who have been experiencing similar problems and most thought it was something that they were doing wrong. Surely Westland are quality controlling their products and realise that there could be a serious problem with their compost that isn't caused by the users.

Bought a grass spreader a year ago.
On 2nd use part of it broke making it useless.
Contacted the company hoping to get a replacement part and this morning a whole new machine arrived.
Thatâs what I call customer service

Bought Westland manure & top soil & they are absolutely soaking wet & stink of drains ! Very poor & darent use it as obviously not fit for purpose for veg or flowers ⊠Shame on Westland

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
It might be eco friendly and produce good result, we'll have to wait and see.
It was soaking wet, very large lumps of compost that are hard to break down, a lot of white stuff in it (I don't know if it's fungus?), lots of pieces of unrotted wood, not well rotted. I won't buy again.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
Absolutely rubbish compost. Iâve been a professional gardener for 40 years and I have NEVER had failures like Iâve had using the multipurpose with John Innes!
My sweetcorn is reluctant to root out and 50% has actually died. Complete waste of my money and my time. Will now have to spend more money on more seeds. Get your act together Westland

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
Jack's Magic Multi-Purpose Compost used to be brilliant and I had absolutely no problem with germinating all my vegetable and flowers seeds. This year, peat-free compost, absolute waste of time and money. I have lost so many seeds. Even when they have germinated, they have shrivelled up and died. I understand the peat-free arguments but, let's be honest, it does not work. The clue is in the fact that professional nurseries are still allowed to use peat-based compost. Have wasted all of my time and money this spring. Pointless.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
Jack's magic is not what it was.
Used be a very good compost now just full bits of twigs and mouldy organic material

Purchased Westland premium gold nuggets to get a good visual effect on a display border. I was shocked with the disparagy between the images shown on the packaging, to its contents. Their was no evidence of the golden colour, it was dirty brown, even after being left in the sun. There was was a very high volume of stripped bark, this would have been an estimate of 50 percent of its volume. I contacted Westland to highlight this issue, sending in many photos. I haven't received a reply following submission of images. I don't think l can attach images to this review, which would give clear indication of how starkly different the contents are to description and image on packaging.
As an update, I received an email on 22nd April to apologise, and the offer of a garden voucher, which l accepted. Despite reminding them that l have not received it, l got neither a reply to this, nor the garden voucher. I have no faith in the integrity of Westland as a company.

tried westland two years now and gave them the benefit of the doubt one year, however, two years running is not good. it says on the multi purpose compost that theres 4 or 5 weeks plant feed.
my seeds start just fine, then just stop growing. It doesnt seem to matter which ones, they all grow like mad for about a week after germination them just stop.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
Peat free but all supposedly overwintering ina greenhouse flower seeds and small veg seeds have failed to germinate. Only a few larger courgette seeds and 1 squash seed. Iâve transplanted a couple of established plants that needed potting on but they are also struggling now.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
I bought 3 bags of Westland Multipurpose peat- free compost with added John Innes for my seedlings & young plants. I am hugely disappointed. Not only have my seedlings failed to thrive, each pot or seed tray has sprouted fungi & is surrounded by fungus gnats. I have watered every few days, some plants are in the spare room which is gently heated & 1 tray is in the greenhouse, neither place is damp. This has never happened to me before, I have grown tomatoes for nearly 40 years. Itâs not like I can return pots & trays of compost to the garden centre. I think I will have to start again, if itâs not too late. A complete waste of money, seeds & time.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
The fast acting lawn seed was anything but. Applied in late March with new top soil and lawn feed - watered daily - 14 days later no sign of anything despite claims that I would have new growth in 4 days and a new lawn in 10 days. Given that this is an expensive product I am hugely unimpressed.
I was staggered to see Westlandâs dreadful reviews and score - they had better wake up. I will be giving my garden centre an appropriate head scrubbing.

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
Very poor its more like poor it cause full of wood chip not recommend

Westland Horticulture ããã®åç
Iâd be better off using gravel and bark mulch. Sieved it and found large stones and pieces of glass. The sieved material was horrible. Last year ( 2025) it was good, but this year only good for mulch, am sure you could even make a path out of it as long as you wear shoes. Waste of money.
