I tried to find out if I can get the original Sonocent. I was hoping that they brought it back, after replacing it with the (supposedly better) 'Glean', which is woefully inadequate. It seems I could, but trying to buy a licence key just took me round in circles. This company just piles frustration upon frustration on willing-to-pay customers. If you REALLY have done away with the original Sonocent, and have no intention of bringing it back, PLEASE JUST MAKE THAT CLEAR!!! ______ PS: It seems that a lot of digital based businesses have been strong-armed into creating products that facilitate authoritarian surveillance. This company that did away with Sonocent (which allowed a non-cloud) desktop version to replace it with Glean was a clear indicator of this, to people intimate with InfoTech and its workings. One stark and large piece of evidence I observed was the experiences of fellow university students when they had to write their exams using "ProctorU" -- This remote examination app assumes you given it carte blanche to do whatever it wishes with your computer. Being more computer literate than my student peers, I insisted on doing my exams only on a computer that belonged to the university, in other words one which had none of my own activities on it. _____ I hope this alerts anyone reading to conduct themselves with more caution and less trust in their use of today's tech.

Helped take notes when it was difficult to understand instructor with tempo of their speech. Great was to validate I did not miss any concepts.
I am a graduate student. Chronic migraines were the issues for me but glean was a life saver. I could listen to Zoom and classes without being there at a later date. While doing assignments, I could make my own notes.
It helped out so much. I am not very fast at typing and reading. Saved me so much time.
This app has made school possible for me. I can't write due to my disability so having the ability to record my classes comes to me handy.
Itâs a great program that helps me with school tremendously!
The Glean/Sonocent company has lost my trust.
It lost my trust because I had spent so much time and effort in learning, using and loving their Sonocent Notetaker, which they decided to phase out. Iâd found it amazingly useful (and so did Paralegals who needed to work with audio recordings which could be imported into Sonocent Audio Notetaker for transcription).
The âupgradeâ to Glean (a downgrade for me) does not allow audio files to be imported, so this company has the temerity to sell it to us as an âupgradeâ. False and misleading advertising right there.
It also reminds of the wrongness of companies who create a product, sell it -- then take it away from you. A company selling a car or a bicycle wouldnât be able to do that, so why do producers of software feel they can do it? I guess they do it because they feel they can get away with it; our laws havenât caught up with these new technologies. Just because the law is silent on the matter, doesnât mean you -- owners of Sonocent, Glean or whatever -- can do it.
There's a great opportunity for someone else to create something better than Glean.
UPDATE after a reply from Glean: My friend got replies after he complained by email about these very things. Nothing in the replies contained information that I now read. It sounds plausible that in-built transcription will be a new feature. Bravo! But in Glean's current form, its inability to import audio files is a deal killer.
Regarding Sonocent Audio Notetaker being available for the next two years or so, actually it will only work for one month (the inbuilt trial period). If anything can be done to actually make it available until 2024, that would be great because by then, Glean would be an even more powerful application. The Sonocent company will have won back my trust if they can enable me to continue using Audio Notetaker until Glean becomes at least equally capable for my needs. Thanks for your prompt reply

My students that I work with at the college level, love it. I recently received an email from a student who could have used this in middle school and high school with her subjects. She is already two days into her class using Glean and it has made a world of difference. This is just one story, there are a lot more.

Glean is a solid app that is useful for recording work meetings, speeches, and classroom lectures. The students I work with and I appreciate the ability to clean up audio after recording as well to filter out ambient classroom noise. The ability to add notes and flag sections of the audio (via emojis) is helpful for pinpointing necessary areas to return to after recording. Other features, such as the ability to add powerpoint slides or the "lightning mode" tool, help make Glean a well rounded notetaking solution. Still, there is room for this program to grow. I think it could be helpful to add more to the "task" feature to help add an organizational component to Glean, and more work could be done to combine sets of notes to make the "reading view" feature more useful. Lastly, while the Glean team is continuing to improve the mobile app, I believe that the desktop version is quickly surpassing it and the missing components become more glaring as time progresses. Still, none of these issues are enough to discourage use of the program. Ultimately, Glean provides more value to university students and professionals by helping to make these communities more accessible.

I've been impressed with the software from Glean (formerly Sonocent) for the past decade. I'm in charge of finding accessible technologies for students with disabilities, and Glean has become a cornerstone of our offerings. It does an excellent job of simplifying notetaking. Students can rest assured that they can easily refer back to anything spoken in class, and the recent additions of image import and transcription round out this software. It also works well with screen reading tech, so I can recommend it to any student.

The app is useful to record and that's about it. There is nothing built in to transcribe the recording which makes the task of having organized notes from a 3 hour class impossible, because you think have to listen to the 3 hour recording. Some students with ADHD can't use all the limited functions, take notes, record, and be successful. I would be incredible useful if the recordings go be transcribed.

This app has transformed the way I work and revived the final year of my degree. It directly helps with features of learning that are particularly difficult for individuals with things like dyslexia and ADHD.

This app is easy to use and I love that I can add PowerPoints and pictures to my notes. My only problem is that I canât record my screen since I have a MacBook, which I find a little annoying.

I have been loving this app. It makes note taking so much easier, and if youâre not good at writing notes but still want to look back at the important bits, it allows you tell yourself where you want to listen or read instead of having to go through the whole thing. The conversion of speech to texts from recordings is extremely helpful and less time consuming. Iâve just started using this system and it has already improved my note taking substantially. My only critique is that they have a size limit
(File size) for the slides you upload, I have had a few instances where my slides were too big so I couldnât upload them and had to write my notes separately.

Glean was very quick to respond when I reported issues. They provided facts about what was happening and advice on what to do next.

The iPad app is inadequate and does not allow you to upload slides. When contacting customer service all they told me is that you canât upload slides on the iPad app or even the iPad web browser. Very frustrating and not helpful customer service.

Glean ããã®åç
Does not allow you to record audio if you are using headphones. Can't get Glean to record zoom with audio. Will record audio but if you are on a zoom type of meeting then you are scrolling through screens and taking notes separately so that you can watch zoom. Can't cut or delete sections of audio either. On the bright side they reach out quickly when you submit an issue. Great start but needs a lot of fine tuning.

Glean ããã®åç
I have found Glean to be really helpful with recording lectures and also marking important areas within the recording which I can revisit later to add notes in. However I have found it disappointing that you can not view or upload slides when using the Glean app. This means that I can't access my full notes when I'm on the go in uni.
