Shockingly bad. Recommend you go elsewhere
Called reporting an ongoing leak in the roof with water running out of a light fitting in the ceiling. Initially told "the team will contact you within 5 working days". When I explained this would be too late for obvious reasons, they offered to call back in 10 minutes. After 40 minutes I got a call to advise me to contact a local repairer. Totally scripted system taking no account of individual situations
I phoned Halifax today as I had a quoteâŠ
I phoned Halifax today as I had a quote online for home and buildings insurance and had some specific queries about parts of a policy. I spoke with Samantha.
First of all they were silent for a few minutes and came on saying problem with headset.
Then they were unable to find the policy this related to and had to go to their manager.
Then I queried some details concerning the policy and was told that it was in the policy booklet but they didn't know where that was.
Then they said that don't worry you are covered anyway with ultimate, and didn't seem to understand that I wanted to see some specific details about coverage relating to oil.
Then they said that the policy booklet was only available once you purchased the policy !!! And couldn't understand that a buyer needs to see the details before they buy. Incredible.
Then they said the product I was attempting to buy was not valid, even though it clearly was on your website.
Then they said that this was the wrong department even though the number was advertised on the quote form.
Finally, I am sat on a call as he/she/who is putting me through to somebody in a different department. Now on for 30 minutes.
And, I've gone to log a complaint and you are asking me for an account number .. i mean, you can't make this up.
Time wasted contacting Halifax
Just wondered if anyone else has trouble contacting halifax by phone. This afternoon I telephoned Halifax and was advised the they were busy and would take 10mins to answer, after about 5 mins a phone message informed me that the other person had cleared. After contacting other insurance companies I thought I would get back to Halifax and was informed that it would now be 40 mins to answer. I feel that my problem is not covered by online means and wonder if anyone has has the same problem
Halifax home insurance claiming is deliberately difficult
Halifax home insurance - I had a bathroom leak, dealt with finding the cause, then as a Saturday Halifax phone number closed. The phone number is deliberately hidden, so started the claim online, horrible form that forced box ticking that wasn't precisely what I wanted to say, evidence from apple phone not accepted as video, only small video in a non-smart phone format. Tried to call 3 days later and automated system refused to let me speak to anyone, through me out saying they needed 5 days to process. I have a soggy bathroom and no idea what is happening. Never claimed on home insurance before, Halifax is a terrible experience so far.
Needed to use Halifax Emergency homeâŠ
Needed to use Halifax Emergency home cover which is serviced through, I believe Alianz.
I returned from holiday to find boiler not working (no heating or hot water):
28/08/25
18:48: after 23 minute phone call due to being on hold, I was told someone would call me back to with a time for engineer visit.
19:29: contractor given the job (CET) Calle fit say they would call me back within the hour with eta for engineer
20:36: contacted them myself as had no update to be told it would be between 08:00 and 17:00 the following day before an engineer could attend
29/08/25
08:19: called by CET to say engineer would call between 12:00 and 17:00 on 30/08/25
09:22 called by CET agent to say they could not provide a boiler engineer qualified to service an oil boiler, I would need to source my own and would be reimbursed a maximum of £200.
Two days without hot water and heating with young children in the house to end up sorting the issue ourselves.
Will not be renewing.
Only awarded one star as there was not an option to give zero.
Insured, premiums paid, claim refused as they dont actually insure what Ive paid for - BEWARE
Halifax insurance are quite happy to prospect you to insure everything they can under their home insurance however when I made a claim for a trailer theft that they had given me a quotation for and had been taking the premiums for, they informed me that trailers actually weren't insured and they wont pay the claim and instead all they want to do is to return my premiums. I have my bank accounts, deposits, pensions and several investments with Halifax, I am now in process of moving them all. This is awful customer experience and I would advise anyone to stay away, even if they accept your premiums you do NOT have cover. They have one star as I cannot give them zero............
Please donât waste your money you haveâŠ
Please donât waste your money you have been warned absolutely awful.agree with all other reviews on Trustpilot
Shame
Unfortunately, after years of loyalty, Iâve been forced to cancel my insurance.
My policy auto renewed, but I never received a renewal invite, they said that they posted it, but I never got it, the price has gone up to over £500? I got a like for like quote from another insurer for half the price, but my new policy includes home emergencies which wasnât covered before,
The upsetting thing is that there was no loyalty, I explained that I hadnât received it but was told sorry, nothing we can do, but I almost feel like they did me a favour because it forced me to look at review and they have a 1.4 rating.. Iâve moved to a 4.5 star rated company, paying half the price for a like for like policy with home emergency included..
Bad job HalifaxâŠ
What a rating
What a rating. Halifax have so many hundreds of insulted customers. Time to find new banking facilities, but beware of those in the same group
Halifax simply break their contract as no legal aid is available.
Claimed previously for structural collapse when wall of flat split.
Then subsidence spread to passageway and brick sixedboieces of concrete were falling from overhead. No assistance to be housed while they fitted a canopy.
Now my freeholders went bankrupt and I have therefore lost my title. As I see it my private residence was insured which I have now lost as my lease has become invalid.
If there is a criminal I juries type lawyer looking at this then a class action against Halifax Insurance would probably be taken up by most on these reviews.
I have emailed Nigel Farage to change the Law to provide PARITY for litigants.
If Halifax Insurance have £1m to spend on legal fees and you have £1000 that money is added together and split between you for legal fees. This is lawfully precedent - the Lady above the Old Bailey holds scales showing that there should be parity under the law. It also does away with the legal aid system so the government actually save money!
Please email Nigel to get justice for yourself.
Lloyds Banking Group.
Ceiling collapsed. Halifax did not send an assessor, I had to pay someone to establish the cause of damage on their behalf. Took ages. Then they refused to accept the claim because âthe damage was caused by waterâ. Then I demonstrated it wasnât. Then they rejected the claim because â the damage was gradual and happened over an extended period â like every ceiling failure since ceilings were invented unless a plane crashed into the house or something. Lloyds Banking Group what are they like?! I never get tired of reading about how they keep being fined for breaking the law (Reading, PPI etc) or about the extra marital affairs of their senior management. Corporate morality is on the floor.
Zero stars just like all the otherâŠ
Zero stars just like all the other reviews it seems they like to play the blame game! I actually wonder what Iâm paying insurance for because it certainly isnât my outbuildings. I had bad storm damage but of course they made it out to be my own fault apparently I didnât maintain the building. Even though the area was spotless and very sturdy but the winds were so powerful. Set up a call with an absolutely useless person from farmers union who called me and said she didnât even have any information on me or anything about my claim and proceeded to ask me questions that she should have already knew. Stay away from them take your money else where because they certainly wonât stand by you. Reading the other reviews the exact same thing has happened to many many people they are just lining their own pockets!!!
Do not use!!!
Absolutely shocking experience with Halifax. We had to source all our emergency repairs ourselves, took 2 weeks from us contacting them with an emergency burst water pipe and flooding inside our home for them to call us back to see how we wanted to move forward with our claim. We wonât be reinsuring with Halifax. Previous experience with Barclays was so much better.
Donât bother with emergency cover - waste of time and money
Donât bother - bought emergency cover with the policy. Had a burst pipe, flooding kitchen, all water turned off. Spoke to Allianz (the supplier) promised to call back - no call. Left with no water all evening, overnight and in the morning. Too late by the out I got a text to say they would send a loner sometime the next morning to book a hotel. No water at all (taps, toilet etc) Rubbish, donât waste your money
Please donât buy insurance from these corrupt liars who donât return calls
Six months later after they have had Crawfords out ( useless , after BVDS useless as well) they still want to use their own contractors to see if claim is eligible even though itâs proven.
This is the group who came out for a burglary at my house and a violent intruder , guess what wrong person wrong house well done Halifax /lloyds Crawfords or whoever you are. I will keep fighting this corrupt group even when they donât do things legally they argue. Please donât buy insurance of this group there is a reason they are cheap . Itâs because they donât PAY OUT
Absolutely no stars
Absolutely no stars. Appalling service from the start.
I have a blocked drain so called Halifax who were quite unhelpful but arranged for Ansa to call me to arrange for engineers to visit and deal with the problem.
A few days later two men arrived, one knowledgeable and competent the other not so much.
Blockage located and reported to Halifax.
After one month and no information from Halifax I phoned and a few days later two men appeared, the competent one wasnât there as he had been sacked but his replacement was tired and kept going to his van for a sleep. The other one went for a long walk and had a haircut. They then smashed out a perfectly good gulley and left saying that they would be back tomorrow.
The next day two new men arrived and installed a new gulley. The drain remained blocked.
Two weeks later sleepy and his mate came and demolished another perfectly good gulley and replaced it with a plastic one.
The drain remains blocked, Ansa phone calls end on music on hold for as long as you hold on.
Halifax assured me that Ansa would call me, they didnât. They use subcontractors.
I had a burst pipe
I had a burst pipe. Halifax and their partners Neways and Polygon have been the worst example of poor organisation, communication, effectiveness and downright don't care, that I have ever had the misfortune to experience. If I didnt know better, I would say I was on a new reality show called âHow much can we wind him up before he burstsâ. My floors are still dug up after 10 weeks, and I have had no boiler for the last 2 weeks. Thoroughly dreadful experience!

Donât be like me, look elsewhere for home insurance
I chose Halifax (actually Lloyds in a rubber mask) to insure my home. Why? Itâs a brand that I associate with my job, my home mortgage⊠so, I trusted them. I felt like I was keeping my family safe. But I was wrong, and they took advantage of me. Donât be like me. Hear my story.
I had paid my premiums to them for years and felt safe in my home because of it. Then one winter there was a fierce storm. Water started coming in through the windows! I had the usual hassle getting joiners and builders but the verdict was it was going to be expensive, thousands of pounds. I told Halifax and⊠the tone changed. Every conversation thereafter, they were on autopilot. They knew what I didnât: my claim would be refused. I knew nothing about insurance really. A man came and looked very quickly at the windows, took around 100 high quality photos, and prepared a report that just said ânot storm damage.â
Basically, if you have storm damage, the insurers can just claim it was wear and tear and as long as one of their paid men will sign the box, thatâs it. Even the ombudsman canât help (no surprises there, I suppose). Theyâre there to protect the business not the consumer.
The truth is, these knowledgeable people that are supposed to protect us, arenât protecting us. Theyâre protecting themselves, and they close ranks and wait for you to go away and die.
Bottom like: donât trust your bank with your home insurance. Get the cheapest deal you can from anywhere, ignore the brand name and reputation, it isnât worth the paper itâs printed on. Oh, and make sure you get lots of photos of your home BEFORE a storm hits, otherwise theyâll do to you what they did to me.
Canât give out minus stars
Canât give out minus stars, if only I read the reviews first. Absolutely dreadful service. 2 hour survey to find issue, couldnât find fault, took me and my husband ten minutes to find the problem. Still waiting for them to get back to me.
