No stars to Halifax
No stars - Do not use Halifax! As a loyal customer for over 20 years they treated me as a criminal when I reported to their Halifax Credit Card Fraud Team today of 2 suspicious transactions - a chip and pin cash transaction of 500 pounds and a cash fee of 25 pounds charged by Halifax. I had never used my Halifax Credit Card to withdraw cash through out my 20 years banking with them. It did occurred to them it was unusual behaviour when my Halifax Current and Saving accounts have sufficient funds. After explaining to Halifax Fraud team for 1 HR 54 mins that I did not make the cash withdrawal from my Halifax Credit Card repeatedly as I was transferred from person to person due to technical issues that they are having with their computers. They refuse to refund me, did not investigate nor look at the ATM CCTV footage and accusing me of lying even though the fraudulent transaction was made in a different location (North London) from where I was (West London) and also they repeatedly advising me to contact the police instead. I logged a complaint with Halifax (ref NC12785416). Out of frustration, I closed all my accounts with Halifax as I no longer trust my money is safe with them and their lack of care towards their customers. In the evening, after speaking to friends and family, I contacted Action Fraud (ref NRFV250507356311) to report the fraud who kindly advised me to call Halifax again with their Action Fraud ref number and if Halifax still refuses to investigate/look at the ATM CCTV footage at Halifax Camden's ATM machine (where the fraudulent transaction took place) and refund me back my financial loss then I should contact the Ombudsman on 0800 023 4567.

**Must-Read: Avoid Taking Out Insurance with Halifax/Lloyds Home Insurance**
Hereâs my experienceâbe careful, everyone! Someone could get hurt with insurance providers that operate like this!
Recently, I faced a disaster in my small bathroom at home, where I live with my 12-year-old child. I called Halifax Insurance, and they appointed a company called Polygon to handle the situation. The technician from Polygon assigned to my home who spent 10 precious minutes slating insurance companies, during which he slatted different insurance companies. After that, he took a reading and decided to rip out my vinyl flooring to install an industrial dehumidifier in my bathroom, advising to keep windows closed alongside the heat it produced, which made it nauseating to the point of near passing out. However, Polygon loosely taped the main cable to the wall in my hallway. An hour after the technician left, due to the heat outside and the heat produced by the dehumidifier, the cable had fallen and was lying all over the hallway floor (Trip Hazzard).
Halifax then sent an assessor to my home, as I had to book a hotel due to A) the noise of the unit, B) the heat it generated, and C) the fact that I only have one bathroom. The assessor stated that the bathroom was inconvenient but liveable. You can judge for yourself by looking at the images I provided!
The assessor falsely claimed that the Polygon technician stated the damp reading was taken from the floor. However, I have a digital record showing that the technician actually took the reading from the wall. Once again, Halifax Insurance has been caught lying in an attempt to avoid properly paying the claim.
The assessors advised me when I asked natural questions that they were not a builder, yet they seemed to have all the final answers regarding the necessary bathroom refurbishment. This is very convenient for them.
In times of disaster at home, we shouldnât have to deal with such situations and lies. Itâs utterly disgusting. I have been a loyal customer of this insurance company for five years, and this was my first claim. I can confidently say I will never use them again. When disaster strikes, we expect appropriate action to be taken swiftly, not to be left with charlatans handling our major decisions.
P.S. They upheld my claim, but after a £500 excess, they offered me only £328. What a ridiculous and disappointing experience!
I hope my situation makes you think before taking a policy out with Halifax/ Lloyds Insurance
DO NOT USE THEM
Worst insurance company ever. Had an underfloor leak and appointed a loss adjuster. Halifax came out and they decided to appoint Polygon to assess. Polygon advised that there was more work required than assessor had identified. That was the end of March. Mid April a formal complaint was made as nothing from Halifax. Just got a message from Halifax advising it may be June before it is resolved - meanwhile I have a hole in my hall floor and my home needs to be professional dried out⊠DO NOT USE HALIFAX INSURANCE
Had a leak on my central heating andâŠ
Had a leak on my central heating and its caused extensive damage to my quarts tiles and also my engineered oak flooring has all blown on the threshold. I asked for a surveyor or assesser to come out but they told me they don't have surveyors or assessers which was a flat out lie.. finally after 8 weeks they sent a lady out she went around with the moisture meter... then rang me a week later to tell me my claim has been denied... they didn't give me a reason so I have put a complaint in. When I receive my final decision letter I will be contacting the ombudsman.. I have endless pictures an engineer report from a gas safe registered operative who carried out the repair and to top it off i now have cctv of the assesser dropping her moisture meter on my tiles and causing further damage... it's been an awful experience from the start been made to feel like a criminal.. the property was in my parents name but they both unfortunately passed away and they started getting quite sarcastic when I explained that I didn't know who the house was previously insured with... I have no way of knowing ask I can't ask my dead mum and dad... it's honestly got me to the point of despair!!!
We tried to make a claim for damageâŠ
We tried to make a claim for damage caused by snow last year. Worst snow we have ever had with over a foot covering the roof. They said we wernt covered because the snow wasnt deep enough!
Am in the middle of another claim now for rat infestation that isnt going well.
Insurance is supposed to give piece of mind is it not. All Halifax Emergency cover does is add to the stress.
They only charge £58/year. Charge a bit more I say but invest in customer service and actually supporting your customers when they need you
Unfair refusal of policy
Were decline house insurance because of number of claims on my property, that was mortgaged through Halifax, Surveyed and Loan approved by Halifax, and now they refuse as that same property has rain damage to the roof and water pipes that burts, (not our fault). This is after we reported a contractor as being fraudulent in claiming way more than the cost of material they dumped on our drive and left. Tiles for 28 square maters amounting to £11000. Halifax don't seem to mind the contractors over charging them but they do if you make several small claims. Stay away from this insurance they dont care about the client !!!!!
Waited 25 mins in que for counterâŠ
Waited 25 mins in que for counter service b4 walking out with five people behind me Chichester branch is a joke - managers and off desk staff just ignore ques. I came back today to find the branch is closed for the day. I shall be looking to transfer my business.
Great experience
I've read most of the reviews and fortunately for me, I had quite the opposite experience...
Had my bike stolen last week (along with many personal items) while being parked and locked on a bike stand.
Filed the proper police report (which I know is absolutely useless) and then got in touch with Halifax (called them as I wanted to make sure the claim was being raised).
Not only the attention received was absolutely excellent, but the speed which took them to resolvethe claim is something I couldn't have imagined. Took them 3 days to send a confirmation letter with the claim being resolved and paid.
I usually use this space to rant about how bad things are done in multiple businesses, but gladly today I got to write about something that actually works as expected!
I would give nil stars if I could
I would give nil stars if I could. Halifax Home Insurance inflated the premium in 2025 so I downgraded from 'silver' to 'bronze' but they nevertheless took the amount of the 'silver' premium from my bank account using my bank details that they had retained without my permission. I am still trying to get them to refund the money they wrongly took. The customer service team are useless and just read out "security" questions from a script but without actually doing any work.
On two separate occasions I have triedâŠ
On two separate occasions I have tried to claim on the Halifax home insurance silver policy. Once for pest removal and was told they don't cover those kinds of pests, once for a leak, but they don't cover those kinds of leaks because they are of the opinion it's from wear and tear without so much as someone looking at it. Will probably cancel my policy and go with a new insurer.
AVOID appalling Customer Service and very hard to contact
Appalling customer service - if you can wait long enough on hold to speak to them (45 mins ) ..never call back when they say they will (waited nearly three weeks for them to call me back after they needed to speak to someone and I ended up calling them to be told that they'd call me back and once again never did) ..meanwhile I have a roof that hasn't been repaired for two months .
Hostile and haven't provided any progress reports or evidence of even working on the claim other than a response of acknowledgement to the claim being made.
Will be going elsewhere as soon as the claim is sorted. Entire experience has been unhelpful, negative and stressful.
Doesn't even warrant 1 star.
Doesn't even warrant 1 star.
Impossible to speak to anyone. Used chat function and they couldn't see my claim.
Told to call the number and line days they are not taking calls and only dealings with emergencies on a priority basis.
What do I pay my monthly premium for???
Halifax, change your legal team
On 28th February, I rang Halifax to ask for legal advice, which I have on my Halifax ultimate home insurance.
I was given a number to call Arc legal assistance, who informed me that I would receive a call within 24 hours but received no call.
A few days passed, and I rang again. This time call back was within 4 hours, and I was in the appointment diary for a call. Also, I was told customer service would also send an email across to Arc solicitors.
Again, I received no call, but customer service said Arc legal assistance tried calling. Sorry, but they haven't called.
Still receiving no call from Arc legal assistance.
I rang yesterday, 6th February, explained again to customer services, again Arc legal assistance had tried calling, sorry they had not ( attached my call log ), that another email would be sent to Arc solicitors.
My Halifax ultimate home insurance policy states I have access to legal assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, it's certainly not the case.
I chose Halifax as they've always been a reputable company and chose this particular policy to have peace of mind. As Arc legal assistance has made no contact in 7 days, I certainly don't hold out much hope of winning a court case being represented by them.
Also, I'd like to inform you that you're in breach of the agreement we both entered into. Seems like my policy is not worth the paper it's printed on!!
Please dont respond to say you can't find my policy
STORM EOWYN - Canât even get to speak to anyone!!
To say Iâm frustrated is an understatement. The recent storm took the roof and the front off my log cabin/garden room in my front garden. I made the claim online as instructed and a week or so later got a call to say a loss adjuster would be out to assess. Also that he would tell me if my claim would be passed and settled. He duly came out, the damage is indisputable as the whole front is lying flat in a pile and the roof is completely off! He took photos and of course I asked if and when my claim would be settled. He tells me itâs not up to him and he has to go back to Halifax with his report. He gave me his email address and said I should contact him for anything if required. So weâre now 6 weeks in and he has not answered several emails and when I try to call Halifax the automated service just cuts me off telling me my claim is not an emergency!! I fully understand that there must have been hundreds of claims that were emergencies however surely those claims have been dealt with by now? My policy clearly states that building covers outbuildings therefore I am sure I am covered but reading the reviews on here Iâm half expecting them to try to get out of paying up!! Itâs just so frustrating if they could just tell me my claim will be met I could start by getting builder in to at least clear the debris instead of having to look at this disaster every day. Iâm so disgusted and disappointed with this company.
OMG the worst company I have ever dealtâŠ
OMG the worst company I have ever dealt with .I can fully relate to the other reviews. This is the first insurance claim I have ever made and it is impossible to speak to anyone, clearly foreign call centre with the most obnoxious response rude people on earth. Rang several times and simpley hung up. I am unable to make a claim as impossible to speak to anyone DO NOT USE!
Excellent service
Excellent service, v prompt and helpful and a reasonable price
If i could give minus 1000 I would
If i could give minus 1000 I would. This is an absolute disgrace of a service, which I do not recommend to anyone. Fortunately for me I had never needed them before, however in the freezing cold my boiler packed up.....no problem I thought I've got insurance!!!! How wrong I was the Halfax could not attend for 24 hours and I'm disabled plus elderly plus I hadn't hot water or heating. So I had to get an emergency independent engineer and they sorted the problem out! So much for taking out cover!!!!
I would give no stars if I could
I would give them no stars if I could. I have tried to make a claim on my home insurance twice now and been made to feel like a criminal each time.
Woefully poor insurance company - avoid!
Been a claim free customer for some years now, tried to claim for Roller Garage doors after they became damaged during use, got the usual story (I knew I would) this is classed as a "mechanical failure" and we're not paying anything, your home and contents doesn't cover it (Or anything else really) etc etc - they closed the claim and suggested they had e-mailed me - which they hadn't - Best avoided - just another slippery insurance company.
We'll insure your home, take your money but won't pay out when you need them.
Customer since 1986.
Tried to claim for a broken tile on my roof.
The lady on the phone used every trick in the book to avoid making a payment.
Renewal came on today as well. Not being renewed so that's a loyal customer gone after 39 years.
Got new insurance with quotemehappy at a much lower price.
