This car rental company is a scam. It's a broker not a real car rental company and has dodgy T& C.
We hired a car at Dublin airport - returned to the same location we picked the car up from at Dublin airport . Having asked and spoken with Jonathon "do we also return the car here and we were told yes . Then when we did that they charged our card 30euro as we didn't drop off to the 'correct' Dublin airport location . We went back to the drop off point after being charged and were told it's our fault as we didn't read the terms & conditions that "clearly state . Pick up Dublin airport terminal 1 & Drop off Dublin air port ( apparently we are supposed to know Dublin airport is a separate location to Dublin airport terminal 1 , even when we asked do we also return the car here and were told yes . Do not rent with Irish car rentals . I imagine this happens to many tourists who don't dispute this charge .

I book car hire several times a year at Shannon Airport and decided to give them a go as the price was good .
I arrived to pick up my car only to find another €200 euros added as i had
to have their full insurance .
Every other company I use offers third party fire and theft and I have my own personal insurance which will cover any excess.
I’ve emailed them for a full explanation and nothing .
To say I’m unhappy is an understatement.

I rented a car in Ireland, Dublin, just a few days ago. I reserved on June.

No information till after I did pay the reserve, that the rented car isnt from Irish car rentals but from another provided, in this case, Europcar.

I rented with irish car rentals because it wasn't needed to provide a Credit card to get the Full Insurance (SDWC), so I did pay an extra to get it.

When I got the car, after waiting for 1h at Europcar:
- I had to leave an excess of 250€ because I don't own a Credit card (the reason I reserved with irish car rentals)
- My insurance then went only to Partial (great!)
- The car wasn't at the airport, so go with a shuttle to the main office, 1 more hour of waiting and having to return it there (+1h to leave it back and sort it out when leaving)
- The car wasn't the same specs as reserved
- Tried for 6 times to be refunded on the extra payment for the full insurance as conditions contracted were not met. Response from Europcar: we won't get your money back, with no further explanations.

¿Want to rent a car in Ireland? Follow these rules:

- Reserve with a PROVIDER not an intermediary
- Use a credit card (they gonna force you so do by yourself)

Much of this is my fault, but there was no way to resolve the issue, so a 1 star review it is.

I booked and didn't need extra insurance, but I could not use the visa debit card I made the booking with due to the fact, it's not a visa credit card and the type of holding payment they needed to make, cannot be performed on a visa debit card UNLESS I would take the full insurance at over 22euros a day.

This seems very bad they can change the rules when it financially suits them and NOT the customer.

Lesson learned. Seems customer service is NOT in the best interest of IRISH CAR RENTALS, so probably best to avoid them.

This company is in full britch of complying with the basic consumer rights related to car rentals.
Irish Car Rentals which is owned by Europcar forces it's customers to pick up a full insurance at a cost of over €33 a day. Failing to comply to their request means that they will refuse to give you the car you have already paid for and threaten to ruin your holidays.
This behaviour is completely against any rules that regulates car rentals within the EU.
If you find yourself in this situation please contact the Garda (Irish police force) at once and make sure that you pick up your car without further expenditure.
In case you have fallen victim of this unlawful behaviour, please make sure that you make a complaint with your credit card company in order to retrieve the cost of the extra insurance that you were forced to sign up for.
If you are not successful with this claim you can send an application of injunction with the Small European Claim Court if you are a EU citizen.
The only way to avoid any issue of this kind is to absolutely avoid renting cars with them and with Europcar which is the owner of this company

Avoid If you're not from US with a gold card - they'll hit you for 50€ per day excess and will not give you the option to have a reservation against your card - avoid

I booked a vehicle online in Kilkenny to pick up of a Saturday.I organized a taxi to get there but then discovered the depot is closed on a Saturday! Not sure where to go from here

Excellent experience with a rental from this company at Dublin Airport in December. They were unmatched on price, and we also received exceptional service in having a car available at the terminal rather than having to take the bus to the car rental centre. The vehicle was excellent and the counter representative at the airport was top class. I will book with them again 👍

We had a great experience renting through Irish Car Rentals. They provided our car through Europcar at a much better price than direct (and much better than Hertz, which I usually try to use). Don't get me started the confusing levels of required insurance coverage in Ireland and Scotland, which is what the other reviews here are actually complaining about. We got full coverage at the best available price paid up for an automatic, and were happy we did based on the tight, crazy roads. The car was new, clean and a pleasure to drive. I would rent through Irish Car Rentals again without hesitation.

I will never rent from this company again and would advise everyone to run a million miles from this company. Booked a car online at the advertised price of less than 200 euros per week. Should have known better! Arrived into Dublin at 5:30AM to find the cost of my car was now going to be almost 4x as expensive - 4 times!!!!. Even though I had a letter/email confirmation from my visa credit card company that they would cover the CDW, the agent at the desk informed me they would not accept this confirmation. I would have cut and run at that point except I was informed I was already on the hook for the non-refundable deposit. I should have done more research, if I had I would have noticed all the terrible reviews, but this was all last minute planning as my father had just died and I was racing home to make the wake and funeral. Worse was yet to follow!!! As required by contract, I filled the car up on the highway on my way back to the airport for my flight home. Arrived at the airport and the guy who checked me in said he couldn't attest to the tank being full and I'd have to pay for a top-up. Just so you know, according to this company, the bar for a full tank seems to be the needle has to be above the full mark line on the gauge - seems there needs to be the actual separation between the needle and the mark on the gauge for a full tank. When I turned in the car a quarter of the needle was touching the tank full line - talk about splitting hairs. Now, to the check-in guy's credit, he took me aside and gave me an out. If I was willing to drive to the nearest filling station and "fill the tank",
I could save myself "some money". Off I sped, determined not to get raked over the coals again by this company. I put all of 0.75 Euros of diesel into the car - how much diesel can that actually be - returned to the check-in and turned the car in. The guy at the check-in desk shared with me privately that if I hadn't done this "top-up", the company would have charged me 50 euros more. Please learn from my mistake; I definitely have. I will tell everyone I know never to rent from this company. Next time I'll go the safe route and rent from an established company like Hertz or Alamo. Their advertised prices may seem to be higher but trust me you won't have to undergo the classic bait and switch scam run by this company.

the fee stated on the website is purely to lure you in, this company adds on fees and charges increasing the price with more than double, and you cannot get your money back either if you choose to cancel so you lose out either way. Stay clear of these scammers!
