Overall, we had a great experience with Luxury Peru Travel. Communication with our consultant, David, was relatively seamless. The trip required minimum effort on our part - LPT took care of everything. We were met at every airport and train station and driven in excellent transportation. We loved our vacation - it was a terrific adventure.
That said, there were a few miscommunications and hiccups that LPT may want to be more aware of.
1. We only had one day in Lima, and of course we wanted to go to one of its famous restaurants in the evening. I was concerned though that the gourmet tour during the day would be too filling, and I suggested a change of plan for that day. David responded that "The Gourmet tour is not all about eating I don’t think you will be full for sure , don’t forget that most of our clients do this tour then go on later in the evening to eat , at at the places you have mentioned, so I wouldn’t worry about it at all." As it turned out, the gourmet tour was extremely filling - a series of tastings followed by a full, and late lunch. Even skipping much of the food we were very full.
2. In general the hotels were excellent (though there's a huge variety in what counts as "5 star" in Peru). But I would have liked to be better prepared for our visit to the Amazon region. Our hotel (Inkaterra) was listed as "4-star", but it was nothing like a typical 4-star hotel. There was no A/C, and in fact there was only electricity about half the time. Again, when I discovered this shortly before our departure (it was 35 degrees C and 95% humidity), David assured me: "No it’s fine it doesn’t have electricity as you and other guests are out most of the day , no air con !!! Now that’s not geeen ! So no :)" Again, this was a little misleading. In addition to the power being off during the day, it was also off much of the night. We had a great experience in the Amazon, but customers should be forewarned: you will be uncomfortable and sweat a lot! That said, the food was great at Inkaterra, we loved our cabin in the jungle, and - contrary to the info in the LPT package - there was in fact internet in the main cabin so long as there was electricity.
3. I mentioned that there’s a big range among the “5-star” hotels. We stayed at the GHL Puno hotel at Lake Titicaca, which would not rate as even 3-star in most places I’ve been. Very dated, small, cramped rooms, lethargic service. Good food though. There was an unfortunate smell all around the hotel (and inside) – not their fault – that area of the lake is polluted, and there was no rain so it dried out and left a fetid mud bank around the hotel.
4. There were a couple of instances of miscommunication between LPT and the local travel guides. For the most part our guides were great, but they didn’t always have the same information we had in our itinerary. For example, at Lake Titicaca we went on a different boat from the one named in the itinerary, and our day did not include a visit to the Capachica peninsula as promised in the itinerary. Nor would it have included the “pachamanca” lunch had I not pointed out the discrepancy to our guide, who then arranged for us to eat that lunch while everyone else ate something different – a little awkward. The next day, in Colca Valley, I was careful to compare notes with the guide. She did not have one of the itinerary destinations in there, but kindly added it for us.
5. I requested twin beds throughout, and reconfirmed that with David before departure. For whatever reason, the last two nights we were given king beds. The first time we lived with it. The second, we had them check their reservation record, which clearly stated “king bed” – i.e. there was a communication breakdown between LPT and the hotel. They changed our room, but to a significantly inferior one with twin beds.
I know that’s a lot of nitpicking, but thought it might be useful for the LPT staff to be aware of these issues. Again, overall this was a fantastic experience.

What an excellent company, from planning to executing everything . Service and attention to the details is what is really standing out. We can’t wait to start planning another Peru trip again with this great company .

Everything was well-coordinated and luxury accommodations throughout the trip. Guides were friendly and always making sure that you were comfortable and enjoying the activity. Communication was superb throughout the trip.

I couldn’t fault anything with the company. Dianna was brilliant. Everything went smoothly we did not encounter any problems. The excursion guides were knowledgeable, helpful and went out of their way to accomodate us. The vans and the drivers were clean and everything went like clockwork.

The tour was very organized and we stayed at great hotels and ate at good restaurants. The only issue was our guide in Cusco was sick and gave my wife a very bad chest cold that turned to a horrible bronchitis. We asked the guide if she was sick because she was sniffling and had a cough. She said no. I almost called off the tour with her because of that but felt sorry for her as I knew it would be a financial setback for her and maybe get her fired. I should have told her to find a replacement. Also, the culinary tour in Lima was OK but honestly we would have preferred to go to arqueologic sites or museums. Unfortunately you have to stay a night in Lima going in.

Had a fascinating but exhausting trip thanks to Luxury Peru Travel. Great accomodation, knowledgable and friendly guides etc. The only down side for us was that we had too little down time with every moment allocated. At times there was too little time to explore on our own, or even to shop at designated market places during tours. On a few occasions we only had 3 - 5 hours for a night's sleep. Sometimes this happened because of last minute flight changes, which a guide told us are regular occurrences. If so this could have been planned for as we had extras days before and after our tour that could have been added to the short stay cities.

My consultant was David Quinn and he provided very good advice and support. When one of our flights was cancelled he helped to get us an alternative land transport to make sure we were back on track for our next leg. During that anxious period he was always available to give us advice on what to expect and do. Even after our trip was over, he helped us to get a refund from the airline even though it took more than 7 months. Luxury Travel is fortunate to have him!

Every detail was covered and every arrangement happened as planned. All guides provided were excellent.
