AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! Sure they quote a nice low price, and you get to pay monthly and per mile, but hidden way down in the fine print on the e-sign document is where they hide 'some additional fees'. Also nothing adds up. The quote did not add up to the actual monthly charge, the quote never mentioned any 'extra' fees or what they would be; they equal about $20 per month BTW, I have yet to get any breakdown on what the initial payment covered, and the absolute worst part?

Upon cancelling, they say they have 30 BUSINESS days to refund any excess premium!

EDIT to add. Look at their pathetic response. Notice how they slipped in the (and fees). Those fees were never ever spelled out nor enumerated in the quote. They did only charge me per mile, and that was the only rate that matched the quote. Nice word salad you losers!

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’d like to clarify how our pay-per-mile insurance works, since transparency is very important to us.

Mile Auto policies include two parts:

1. A monthly base charge that covers non-driving risks like theft and other non-moving risks, plus standard industry fees such as technology, policy, and payment processing fees. These are charged each month whether you drive or not. Your base charge plus the fees are detailed on your monthly statement. Other insurers also charge similar fees, but hide them in their monthly premiums. We prefer transparency.

2. A variable per-mile rate – just a few cents per mile – based on how much you actually drive.

The monthly base charge and the per-mile rate are clearly shown in your final quote before purchasing a policy.

At the start of a 6-month policy term, there is a down payment, which is applied toward the term’s base charge. After that, your monthly bill is simply the base charge (and fees) plus the per-mile portion for the miles you drove the prior month. For our low-mileage customers, this usually results in savings compared to traditional insurance.

Your estimated payment quote was based on the mileage estimate you provided. Since the cost is based on the miles you actually drive, your price might be higher or lower depending on your initial estimate of mileage. It works like your electric bill: the less you use, the less you pay.

Regarding cancellations: as disclosed in our policy documents, refunds are processed within 30 business days, which is standard timing in the insurance industry.

Called a week ago to get a quote for my…

Called a week ago to get a quote for my new address & to update my policy info, The person I spoke to told me it was too early. I need to call back closer to my move. Mind you I had already received my new home insurance policy a week earlier for the address. This place lacks the technology to operate as a real auto carrier. I literally had to call 2 days to even get a rep on the phone.

Then September comes. I was out of town for the holiday weekend so I missed my odometer reading on 8/29. I did receive another text and email to submit it on 8/30 which I did as soon as I got home. So now I am patiently waiting for my invoice to see my monthly charges and what I currently owe for August. I never received the invoice and I saw they deducted money from my account 9/4/25. The amount charged is close to what I normally pay but you should not be debiting money from my account without first informing me of the charges.

I will be canceling my policy this month & would advise most ppl to just pay extra and go with a larger company. The customer service is worth it. My biggest fear is having a large claim and dealing with their claims team which is probably nonexistent!

Starting five days before the end of each monthly period during the term of insurance, customers receive a series of text and email reminders with a hyperlink to submit a photo of their odometer. If a photo is not sent, a customer is charged a default daily mileage of 40 miles per day. A quick call to customer care will result in a new text & email for an odometer photo, and the account will be adjusted accordingly. Likewise, the account can be adjusted when mileage is submitted at the end of the next month. Once an odometer reading is verified, an email is sent 24 hours prior to collecting the amount owed via your preferred electronic payment method: credit, debit or ACH.

Again, if you will share your name and/or contact details with us at customersuccess@mileauto.com, we will be happy to review your records and get back to you.

And finally, with regard to Mile Auto's claims handling, we can assure you that our US-based claims team members are available to assist all our customers and claimants, with many thousands served every year.

The worst insurance company, will leave you stranded

Phewww I think I need to take a breath. This company is literally the worst insurance company. Not only was the signup process extremely time consuming and painful (they cancelled my insurance over the weekend when they were closed three days before the due date for my odometer reading leaving me stranded and without insurance until the following week.)

Fast forward to today (just two weeks later!) I needed to call them to use roadside service, should have been easy enough. Gave them a call and talked to robots, got a text to fill out some form for a third party tow appointment. Cool. Entered my information and what do you know? Sure enough mile auto is claiming I don’t have insurance with them, even though I’ve paid them for my insurance, have a policy card but that apparently doesn’t mean you get service. Their office closes at 5pm eastern, so if you need them after that - you are stranded.

So thanks again Mile Auto. A service that is so cheap they can’t even work to help you. I would avoid this company like the plague and simply pay a little bit more, because news flash - this company can’t operate obviously.

Hello again Skyler - When you purchased your Mile Auto policy, you did not select the roadside assistance coverage that was offered to you. Thus, when you needed roadside assistance, our system correctly indicated that you do not have that coverage. You do, however, have insurance with us. Our office hours are 9am to 6pm in each US time zone, and our accident towing (which you do have) and roadside assistance are available 24/7/365. If a customer contacts our roadside assistance provider but they do not have coverage, they are offered the opportunity to pay for it right over the phone. I had the most pleasant experience with…

I had the pleasure of working with Kimberly at Mile Auto Insurance, and I can honestly say she exceeded my expectations. From the very beginning, Kimberly was professional, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about the auto insurance process. She took the time to explain everything clearly, making sure I understood my options and felt confident about my coverage.

Modern cost effective solution for low mileage driver

As an accident free, middle aged, very low mileage driver (300 miles/mo) and an insurance industry veteran, I was seeking a lower cost alternative to the dominant auto insurers that blitz media channels encouraging you to bundle (I’ll pass State Farm). Mile Auto provides a cost effective, easy to use offering (you pay for the miles you drive)….keep up the good work.

Gouging

1. Hidden Fees. I am charged $3 a month for " installment fee" you cant purchase a 6-12 policy and pay in full, they have to get a monthly mileage to determine your monthly amount. Why should I pay for something THEY don't have available, that's fraud. Another $7 a month for "policy administration fee". Then another $5 a month for " mileage capture fee, they are supposed to contact me every 1st of the month to get my mileage , if you don't respond they charge you a astronomical amount, the last 6 months on the 2nd of each I have had to contact them and request they send me their request because they failed to do so. They do that so you will fail to send mileage and they can charge whatever they want. 2. My policy just renewed and without any explanation, even after contacting them , I have a $33 rate increase. No tickets, no claims, and my credit has improved, haven't moved live in a town of 6,000 people zero crime zero car accidents, just raising it because.

Hi Scott, thank you for your feedback on Trustpilot. Mile Auto takes great efforts to be transparent in our billing practices. That’s why our fees are detailed in our monthly statements. We pay our payment processor a convenience fee and thus charge such fees to our customers. We do not commit fraud against our customers. Large traditional insurance companies hide their fees in their premiums so customers cannot see them.

Yes, you are correct that Mile Auto does not have the ability to charge in full up-front for a 6-month policy (we don’t have 12-month policies) because we charge for the miles actually driven each month. Our system automatically generates reminders via text and email for each customer at approximately 5 days, 3 days and 1 day before the end of a policy month to submit an odometer image so that their monthly bill can be calculated. When the odometer image is not submitted, we default to 40 miles per day until we receive the odometer reading at which time we adjust the charge accordingly. If you were not receiving those automated reminders, that is a problem and our technology team needs to know about it.

Rates for all insurance companies can change at the beginning of each term. Our rates are filed with each state’s insurance regulators, and once filed, we are required by law to charge those rates. Rates for most insurers have been rising over the past few years as inflation has increased the costs of repair parts and labor.

Exceptional Level of Professionalism & Care

From my initial inquiry with Ivonne her professionalism, patience and kind demeanor immediately resolved the nervousness and skepticism that I was feeling due to a negative experiences with my previous insurance company. Ivonne was efficient and immediately followed up in writing as she indicated she would. Based on the clearly defined terms and the exceptional care received I decided to move forward. Upon calling to initiate the policy I was assisted by Griffin who offered the same extraordinary care and patience while I made sure I understood the terms. He simplified where I needed clarification and was incredibly generous with his time and explanation. It’s rare to receive such incredible service and to have received such remarkable care on two occasions speaks volumes of the quality of the individuals associated with Mile Auto. Seldom does it make my day to interact with “customer service” but this truly was a new level of care and it truly made a wonderful impression and I cannot commend Ivonne & Griffin enough for their efficiency, patience and pleasant demeanor.

If there ever was a scam company

If there ever was a scam company, this is it! I drive very little (retired and use delivery). NO ACCIDENTS or tickets my entire life. They started my insurance premiums at $20 a month. Within a few months, I just got a bill for $75 for 1 month!!! Should not be a business!

Hello Charlene - thank you for your feedback on Trustpilot. We can assure you that Mile Auto is not a "scam" as evidenced by the tens of thousands of our low mileage customers who appreciate our pay-per-mile pricing. We have reviewed your account, and your premiums were as follows:

Term #1: $29.20 before fees and per-mile mileage charges;
Term #2: $44.75, also before fees and per-mile mileage charges, following our state-wide rate increase in Florida; and
Term #3: $44.23, before fees and per-mile mileage charges.

Your rate was never $20 per month. The $74.33 you were charged at the beginning of Term #3 included a one-time $25 policy fee for the entire term.

We regret that you found your experience with Mile Auto to be unsatisfactory. We are thankful that many low mileage drivers find our pay-per-mile billing to be ideal for their auto insurance needs.

“F” grade for customer service

I’ve tried for 9 days to get an actual person on the phone that can help me cancel my plan and remove my form of payment.

The one time I was close to resolving this was when the customer service rep assured me the instructions I’d be receiving would solve my problem and he put me on hold and within 3-5 seconds, the call was disconnected.

Know nothing about Mercedes GLK vehicles

EGR replacement is never an issue for GLK vehicles yet Miles folks believe that it might need replacement and the job could cost up to $9000
Mercedes in Nanaimo disagrees and they saved us a ton of money. Repair cost us $800 by Mercedes Nanaimo where we will always take our vehicle....

Our claims team members work with hundreds of years/makes/models of vehicles, and certainly do not know a Mercedes GLK like a Mercedes Benz certified repair shop, so we are glad you got your vehicle to the Mercedes experts. PLEASE read all of the negative reviews before your purchase - I wish I had!!

I work from home, so this insurance at first seemed to make a lot of sense. Like most insurance companies, they charge you a policy fee/set up fee. Once your first 6 month policy completes and you renew for another 6 month period, you should NOT be charged this again - they already have you set up in their system, they should not be recharging you this every time.

Once I saw they were deceptively charging me, I cancelled my 2nd 6 month policy after 4 days of coverage. Of the $139.95 charge on month 1 of 6, and only having coverage for 4 days, they returned $54.47 or 39% for FOUR DAYS OF COVERAGE.

When you see their very nicely worded response and how their fees are layered a certain way, bottom line there is no way I should have only gotten 39% of my money back for 4 stinking days of coverage.

You have been warned...

thank you for your feedback posted on Trustpilot. We have reviewed your renewal and want to correct your understanding of the charges associated with your policy renewal.

First, $38.82 was owed for mileage your vehicle was driven during the prior term for which you had not yet been billed. Since you were with us for a full 6-month term, you will recall that Mile Auto charges a base monthly rate each month that does not change during the term, plus – in your specific case – 4.6 cents per mile. In the last month of your prior term, you drove 844 miles, which totals the $38.82 owed for the last month in your prior term.

With regard to the balance, just as we did for your initial 6-month term, you were charged an upfront $25 policy fee which is collected at the beginning of each term regardless of whether you continue for the full term or terminate the policy early. The balance of the fees are for our mileage capture and validation technologies, payment processing fees and an anti-theft fee required by the State of Texas. As a result, the refund you received is actually 87% of the base premium paid and mileage charges.

We hope this helps explain your particular situation. Mile Auto makes every effort to clearly share premium details and fees in each monthly statement, and we understand that charges for mileage in the prior term plus payments for the new term can create confusion.

I HAVE NO WORDS!!!!!!

My car was in the shop for 3 months. I told mile auto that I did not have access to my mileage fir this reason. They told me that I have to pay the 40 miles per day charge for not sending my odometer reading and when I get my car back I will be credited for the mileage I did not use. 3 months of paying over $300 a month for mileage and when I get my car back and give them my odometer reading, they told me because my policy renewed while my car was being repaired They cannot go to the old policy and give me my credit that I deserve. So instead of 3 months credit, I am only getting 1 month credit. When I asked for a breakdown They keep telling me the accounting dept will send it and I have been waiting all week. They can't even give me a breakdown of the credit. When I call they hang up. I don't know what to do at this point. They stole my money...

There is no 0 starts that is the rate…

There is no 0 starts that is the rate they should have. very bad company. They miss calculate the mileage, problems with the odometer capture app (even they charfe you for that), charges me wrong amount, a total disaster. They cancel my policy saying they are not doing business in CA anymore. Thank you for that, now I'm payng $80/month for my 2 cars (AAA insurance) and I have no concerns avbout miles and dealing with such horrible company

This company is the absolute worst

This company is the absolute worst. They do not want to pay for the car even though we have full coverage insurance. Beware. Jeanie is so rude and ugly. Literally yells at you even though we’re her customers. We hired you and paid for this insurance. So unprofessional

Thank you for your feedback. We can assure you that Mile Auto does not steal from customers. The insurance industry is highly regulated, and we would not be in business if we treated our customers inappropriately. There are tens of thousands of customers who trust us with their auto insurance. Please note: we cannot find a policy under the name you provided in your review, but would like to research your concerns. If you would send your policy number to customer.success@mileauto.com, we would very much like to understand and resolve any issues that might exist.

No refund no response

Canceled my policy because they would never send me proof of insurance. They were supposed to give me a refund. After waiting a week finally called and was told it could take up to 30 days but they could issue a refund that day. Been 5 days.....still waiting.
