Shady business practices
I initially wanted to try this as a small targeted test for a local promotion. I paid for the subscription and set up my promo, which seemed easy enough. I tested, re-tested until I had the response I wanted. However, when I kicked off the promotion, no pop up appeared on my site. Apparently the view I adjusted to at the last minute was a paid upgrade and not visible to my customers. I use a lot of software, you are usually informed when there is a paid upgrade.
Lesson learned, since I had a paid subscription, I figured I would try again at a later date. Then this morning, I get charged an extra $36 out of the blue, for what I don't know. Well folks, you lost me for a measly 36 bucks and I will be a vocal detractor of your company at every opportunity.

Careful - once you opt in, you can't get out
Seemed like a good addition to my WordPress site - free trial can't go wrong, right? Sure, until they demand a credit card and start charging it as soon as the trial is over. No way to cancel, no way to choose not to use it. I tried to remove my account and clear my credit card info to no avail. Customer service was very good only after I threatened legal action. And then they didn't refund the full amount.

I signed up for OptinMonster under what I believed was a free trial. My account even displayed an "Upgrade to Pro" banner, confirming that I was NOT on a paid plan. Suddenly, I found a $228 charge on my credit cardâwithout warning, without consent, and without any option to prevent it.
It turns out OptinMonster automatically upgrades your plan if you exceed a certain number of page visits, without asking if you agree to the charge. They donât notify you, they donât ask for confirmationâthey just take your money. This practice is not only deceptive but outright unethical.
To make matters worse:
You canât remove your credit card details from their system.
They make canceling difficult and try to trap you into staying.
Their support is unhelpful, and refunds are nearly impossible to get.
This is nothing short of a scam disguised as a marketing tool. No reputable company should charge users hundreds of dollars without consent. I strongly advise everyone to stay away from this predatory service.
