Appalling, heartless service from Paypal Here UK
Appalling service from Paypal Here UK. I am a 65 year old pensioner with a small jewellery business. Christmas is my busiest season for sales at local craft fairs. I have used Paypal Here for over 3 years to take card payments. Last Friday my card reader failed. I reported this and was told a new one would be sent out. I asked the Paypal staff member if it was all right to take payments manually as ‘customer not present’ because I had Fairs over the weekend and the new reader would not arrive until Monday. At no point did the Paypal staff member tell me that I had a limit of £400 on payments I could take like this. I now find that £281 of my money is being held as pending by Paypal. I needed to transfer this to my bank today to buy new stock for the fairs I have in the weeks before Christmas. I phoned Paypal only to be told that although I was forced into this position because their card read failed, they would not release my funds until Boxing Day.That means I cannot order the stock I need, so in effect, Paypal is putting me out of business.....and just in time for Christmas! How unjust is that! I have phoned, pleaded and emailed for hours now and to no avail. What will I do now?

Beware of using this service if taking …
Beware of using this service if taking card payments over the phone etc. Any transaction amounts totalling over $1,000 processed in a 7 day period will be 'held' (ie short term stolen by paypal for them to play with on the money markets etc without compensation) allegedly in case of dispute or a chargeback that may occur. This amount will be held for 21 days. They give no consideration to your cashflow etc and there are some real horror stories online about this.
This is even if there is no dispute and never has been any dispute or chargeback on your account.
Considering that we (as in the customer) pay a premium percentage for their service and provide them carte-blanche access to bank accounts to recover funds in case of dispute this policy is completely unreasonable.
Accordingly I have ceased using paypal here forthwith, they will never see another cent from me in fees and would urge everyone to do likewise. There are other alternatives out there without this ludicrous policy.
