Initially I had another conveyor/case handler and thought oh no however being given Monika Galuszka as my new case handler turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me.
The selling of my flat was an absolute nightmare, the buyer gave me the run around for nearly eight months.

Was allocated Ria as our conveyancer and in the very beginning all seemed ok.
However it quickly became evident that she could not cope with her workload. After providing several forms multiple times and answering the same question's multiple times things just got worse. Was told by Ria that we were ready to exchange several times only to check with our buyers and vendors, only to be told both were actually still waiting for things from Spencer Lockwood. Eventually when we were in a position to exchange, Ria told me that my bank had not requested to "draw down our funds for exchange in time". Upon calling my bank myself, my bank informed me that no request had even been made by her.
The nail in the coffin was me having to do all the calling around and chasing myself only for Ria to have the audacity to say i would be charged for the "express service" if i continued to call for updates!!
If you do your homework, you will see this company has traded under a few different names in recent years and has been reported a bunch of times and several clients have had successful claims against them. This is all PUBLIC INFO AVAILABLE ONLINE.
In addition, i would be sceptical about some of the 5 star reviews on here, especially the ones with the same surname as Ria herself. 🤔

I just completed my transaction on both of my flats. Monika Galuszka who helped and supported me all through as we had hell of time with the buyers solicitor. I just competed on my house purchase today and I just want to give a special shoutout to Ria who made sure everything went so smoothly and promptly! I had a great experience with this firm. they took me on as a client while i was purchasing a house, the handler assigned was called Ria and was very good, always had good responses which were very helpful and quick, she would also inform me of any changes and how the process was, she made it clear what she was doing and what i had to do, and because of this i didn’t have to worry about anything, very good at her job and helped me a lot. definitely recommend this firm

Really disappointing service received via Spencer Lockwood. Our handler was Ria and although initially quite respondent, we were quickly let down and felt disappointed throughout the process with their lack of care or response.


Spencer Lockwood share their SLA as a positive point but our experience was that this SLA was repeatedly used as an excuse for not responding to emails. If we called our handler we'd often hear 'Let me stop you there, we have a 2 day SLA process.' In addition we were often left chasing despite the 2 day SLA being long missed.

Throughout our purchase and sale we also requested on a couple of occasions that our handler call us or call other solicitors in the chain to expedite the process and not once did that happen - very much email only communication.
If you're looking for a conveyancer who will help you to keep pace, it's not Spencer Lockwood.

Finally, the additional costs incurred were excessive. Everything was a min of £250+VAT extra and we were even charged £100+VAT for a contract review despite this being held up due to our case handler's error.

Overall I'd recommend steering clear of Spencer Lockwood. The price is appealing but the service is not!

An absolute asset to the firm, she transformed a mess into smooth sailing and has a phenomenal skill with stakeholder management, professionalism and positive demeanor. Very poor communication, slow and poor service, a careless disregard for both the chain and the client. Avoid at all costs. Only 2 parties in the sale of a simple freehold property. This companies attitude typifies all that is wrong with so many conveyancing firms.

Monika at Spencer Lockwood was a pleasure to work with. I didn’t once have to chase her up for anything as I have had to do with solicitors in the past. This is my 4th house move and by far my best experience using conveyancing solicitors. I would highly recommend and will most definitely use them again in the future!
