Excellent communication from beginning to end by Jay who carried out the initial survey of our loft. Two brothers, Danar and Matt completed the installation in a day. They were extremely pleasant and professional, exceptional workers. The finished job was excellent, left it neat and tidy. No hesitation in giving 5 stars and highly recommend them.

Paid a deposit for a loft hatch installation. Twice I took time off work for the work to be done and they cancelled at short notice. Today is the third day I have done so and they haven’t turned up. I phoned to ask whats happening 1.5 hours ago and they said they would check and call me back. Not heard anything since and now calls just go to voicemail. Have asked for my deposit back and won’t use them again

This company fitted some boarding I the loft and a hatch. It has taken me a long time to put a review down but I was so disgusted with the service I was provided. They have put the hatch opening on the wrong side and not given me a proper metal stick to open the hatch. He made it out of wood which broke after a week, do I can't even go into or use the loft. I emailed the company straight away, they promised to send me a proper stick to be able to open the hatch and correct the opening. I told the worker if he can change the opening to the correct side and he said NO, my time is up. This man came 2 hours late the he wanted to leave at his own regular time. If he turned up on time then he had at least 2 hours to correct the hatch. The manager on the email promised to correct this and to date has not bothered, I have emailed him on a few occasions. Please don't use this company as they will take your money, promise you they will correct their mistakes and then ignore you. Be careful, I still have all the emails for proof. Don't use this company

We had a fantastic experience with the Loftman Company who boarded up our loft as well as creating a new hatch and installing a loft ladder.
Mark & Daniel have done a brilliant job and also left the area they were working in clean which is much appreciated. Would highly recommend!

Fitter has been today, made sure he understood what we wanted. Completed the job quickly, demonstrated how it all works.

Great from start to finish Rhys who did the quote arrived on time explained everything in detail even days later Rhys was available to answer questions. To the lady who booked in the appointment and on the day Taz texted saying what time he would be arriving again turning up on time they fitted a new loft hatch and boarding of the loft was done Taz and his assistant both very polite put all dust sheets down before they started and when completed the job cleaned up after them i would 1000% recommend The Loftman Company to anyone also the quote i had was very good so thank you to everyone involved very happy

Followed my instructions to the letter. The Fitter was hard working and kept things clean. I am happy with the work.

DO NOT USE!! Don't be fooled by the very competent person who comes around to do the survey. The issue is the fitters.. they were careless and damaged 4 walls in our house (as you come through the front door and all the walls as you go upstairs). I contacted head office and they refused to make good. Please AVOID!

Disappointing experience despite good communication

Unfortunately, my overall experience with The Loftman Company has been very disappointing.

I paid approximately £464 for a loft ladder installation following a professional survey of my property in 2026. During that survey, I was only advised about fitting a ladder using my existing loft hatch.

After the installation, I discovered that because of the roof slope, the ladder had been positioned towards one side of the hatch rather than centrally. One of the grab rails could not be fitted, leaving me without a proper handhold on one side when climbing. Importantly, the installers did not explain this to me or ask for my agreement before installing the ladder in that position. I only found out once the installation had been completed.

I raised my concerns with the company and, after considerable correspondence, another surveyor attended. During this new visit, enlarging the existing loft hatch was discussed as a possible solution — and I was subsequently quoted £565 to have this done.

This is the part I find particularly difficult to accept.

The company repeatedly refers to the fact that a larger hatch had once been discussed with me during a completely separate survey in 2024. However, when they carried out a new professional survey in 2026, that option was not mentioned to me at all.

I cannot choose between two options when only one option is presented to me.

If enlarging the hatch was still technically possible in 2026, I believe their surveyor should have explained both options and the limitations of fitting a ladder to my existing hatch before I committed to the work. I am the customer, not a loft specialist, which is precisely why I paid a professional company to assess and advise me.

The company has now confirmed in writing that they cannot say why the larger hatch was not discussed during the 2026 survey, as the surveyor cannot recall the conversation.

Despite this, their final position is that the original £464 installation stands, and if I want the larger hatch installation I must pay a further £565. They have offered only a £75 credit for taking back the recently installed ladder.

To be fair, Gavin, who handled my complaint, was consistently polite, responsive and professional, and I genuinely appreciated the way he communicated with me. My disappointment is with the company’s final decision and, most importantly, the advice I received before the original installation.

Had all the viable options and limitations been properly explained to me during the 2026 survey, I could have made an informed decision before spending £464.

Sadly, based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering using this company asks the surveyor to put all available options, limitations and any compromises in the proposed installation in writing before accepting a quotation.

Thank you for your response. I would just like to clarify one important point for anyone reading this review.

I have never disputed that enlarging the hatch was discussed during a separate survey in 2024. My complaint is about the new professional survey carried out in 2026.

During that 2026 survey, I was presented with only one option: retaining the existing hatch and installing the ladder. The larger-hatch option was not presented to me again, nor were the practical limitations of the proposed installation explained to me before I agreed to proceed.

Your response itself acknowledges my point that the larger hatch should have been discussed again in 2026, and you have confirmed that you cannot establish what was discussed during that survey because the surveyor cannot now recall the conversation.

A recommendation made by a different surveyor two years earlier is not the same as being presented with two viable options during a new survey in 2026.

My point remains very simple: I could not make an informed choice between two viable options when only one of those options was presented to me in 2026.

I am happy for readers to consider both my review and the company’s response and make up their own minds.

Really, really pleased with our new loft ladder. Quickly fitted a lovely sturdy ladder that is easy to put up and down.
