My trek to Everest Base Camp with The Mountain Company was a fantastic blend of challenge and enjoyment. The itinerary, slightly different from the usual, proved effective for acclimatization, making the journey physically demanding yet thoroughly enjoyable. The return journey, featuring an alternative route, added a unique dimension with its own set of challenges, showcasing the diverse landscapes of the Himalayas.

What set The Mountain Company apart was their excellent communication and seamless logistical support. From permits to accommodations, every detail was taken care of, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the trek without worrying about the logistics. Any concerns were promptly addressed by their attentive team, adding an extra layer of reassurance to the entire experience. In summary, The Mountain Company crafted an exceptional Everest Base Camp trek, combining a thoughtfully designed itinerary, strategic planning, and top-notch customer service for an unforgettable Himalayan adventure.

We did a trip around the Manaslu Circuit with the Mountain company in October-November 2023, and were very impressed by the level of organisation and attention to detail. Roland helped choose a good first trek, and the logistics on the ground were seamless. The local guides and porters hired by the company were great, and the whole experience was stress-free.

My wife and I (ages 59 and 61) picked The Mountain Company because of its longer itinerary (3 acclimatization days v. 2 for the other operators we saw), the detail provided on the trek itself, the gear required, in-country information and logistics and the good reviews we saw from other trekkers.

The itinerary was well-thought out, with plenty of time to cover each day's distance at a leisurely pace with time for rest/photo stops and sightseeing. The 3 acclimatization days were particularly helpful.

TMC was very responsive via email and Zoom to our pre trek questions, and was also able to quickly adjust the trek to deal with changing conditions. For example, TMC was able to fly us into Lukla earlier than planned to avoid a forecase of bad weather. Also, when we came down with respiratory infections TMC was able to extend our stay at two of the lodges on our ascent to allow us to recover. While we were the only two people in our group that made it easier, but I think it was indicative of TMCs willingness and ability to make adjustments (to the extent feasible) where necessary. Roland Hunter was always availabl via phone, email and text.

This was the 3rd Himalayan trek I have undertaken with The Mountain Company, and once again this trek lived up to all my expectations. It was physically challenging, with a rugged and diverse variety of scenery, initially heavily forested, and which then gradually changed to superb, bare, open alpine terrain. Our interactions with the local Nepalese villagers throughout the trek were fantastic. A memorable, impromptu concert was organised in our honour by the children at one village TMC have a longstanding and well-earned reputation for their expertise, professionalism and integrity. They have all bases covered in their operation. Their website is very informative, and any queries or requests for clarification were answered promptly and in detail by Roland Hunter. The cost of the trek was very reasonable. Standard of hotel accommodation provided in both Kathmandu and Pokhara was first rate. Roland closely vetted the experience of prospective trek participants to ensure their skill level was suitable for the trek they had chosen. TMC place a great emphasis on selecting quality people to lead their treks. We were fortunate to have Cory as our trek leader. He was ably assisted by his Nepalese counterpart, Arjun, and his wonderful team of guides, cooks and porters. A high priority was placed on the safety and well-being, not only of the trekkers themselves, but also that of the Nepalese team. TMC alloted 3 altitude rest days on this trek, which allowed trekkers to gradually and safely acclimatise as they ascended. Other trekking companies allocate 2 such days at most. Trekkers were closely monitored and encouraged by the leaders throughout the trek to ensure they were travelling ok. Practical assistance was offered and provided whenever a difficult section of the trail needed to be negotiated. The quality, variety and quantity of the meals provided on the trek was first rate. Despite the trek being physically taxing, I lost absolutely no weight at all. The tents provided on trek, are in reality 3 person tents, with huge vestibules.
I would highly recommend The Mountain Company to anyone considering a trekking holiday in the Himalayas. They are always my first port of call whenever I am looking to do a trek.

The scenery of Manaslu Circuit Trek was the most amazing scenery that I have seen of all my travel's. The itinerary was ideal to ensure stunning trekking experience as well as safe acclimatization for a successful completion of a trek that includes crossing a pass >5000m. I also appreciated the detail of adding Bandipur at the end of a demanding trip to indulge in luxury rest as well as beautiful vista of not only Manaslu but Annapurna range as well. Now that Roland/The Mountain Company has perfected the itinerary of Manaslu Circuit, I expect him to widen/pave all the roads in Nepal.

Our trip was a truly memorable experience trekking the Manaslu circuit in a relatively remote part of Nepal. We trekked through epic mountain scenery and passed through remote village communities providing a fascinating combination of wild landscapes and cultural diversity. There was enough challenges in the trip to make it all the more worthwhile. At the same time the whole experience was very well organised, including a careful approach to safety and altitude acclimatisation which helped ensure a successful completion of the trek by all team members. The Mountain Company has a wealth of Himalayan trekking experience and the quality of pre trip information and support available during the trek was absolutely excellent.

A very personal and high quality service from The Mountain Comapny made my first trekking holiday in Nepal a memorable one. Superb attention to detail from the logistics teams, transport & accommodation arrangements, not forgetting the top guides and porters assigned to our journey in the Manaslu National Park. What an experience.

Roland and the team at the Mountain Company were wonderful; they helped us with every detail pre trip and made the whole trip so enjoyable and a total success. We felt looked after, with a great route planned, and were guided beautifully by our guide and team. I had not done a trip like this before so was a bit daunted by it all, but Roland was so helpful and clear on what we needed to know and do that we were completely reassured and everything went smoothly and to plan.

Every thing worked really well from sign up to starting to walk on my Manaslu trek in the Himalayas. After five days trekking, in a remote mountain village I tested positive for covid. You don't know how effective a companies promises will be until you test them. The Mountain Company were exemplary in helping deal with a difficult insurance company and securing my helicopter evacuation to hospital. The care and support of Roland (The Mountain Company CEO) was exceptional and his presence in Kathmandu meant he was 'on the ground' to ensure my helicopter evacuation went smoothly. Fabulous customer service.

I highly recommend The Mountain Company if you want a great trekking experience. Having used them for multiple treks they are consistently excellent with their pre and post trek communications as well as their professional safety-conscious guiding and support throughout the trek. This latest trek we did was to Annapurna Base Camp - a great itinerary with a fantastic guide - the trek exceeded all our expectations.

The desire of The Mountain Company for you have the greatest of times whilst in Nepal is evident from the first communication with owner Roland, to the ‘last supper’ prior to returning to the UK and through to Roland’s desire to receive constructive feedback which he always reviews and replies to.

The careful planning of TMC’s treks reduces the chance and impact of altitude sickness ensuring everyone can enjoy the trekking.

Trek food is above average for such Himalayan adventures, something TMC work hard on improving as much as is possible in these adventure trips.

The Kangchenjunga trip is probably not the first trek anyone should experience (simply because if trekking/camping is not for you it is a long trek…….although I’ve yet to travel with someone who doesn’t fall in love with the whole experience however challenging they find it). 20 days of trekking, mainly at altitude with stunning blue skies, various climates (from tropical to arid, mountainous desert), stunning mountain views and the wonderful people of Nepal.

An amazing experience finely curated by TMC. A raft of operators offer similar packages but it was Roland (and TMC’s) expert knowledge and experience that builds confidence of risk management, operational ability and client support. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again!

We've now done four treks with The Mountain Company -- two short, two long. If we ever go back to the Himalayas, I'm fairly certain we'd use them again. They really seem to be head and shoulders above the competition, particularly on the less-traveled routes. Perhaps the best thing about them is their local guides. TMC seems to pay well and supported them through the pandemic. They've all been personable, knowledgeable, and skilled. The Western guides have also been very good. They're all pretty hardened, almost to a fault, which means that they were sometimes a little unaware of some of the group dynamics (so, e.g., more aggressive trekkers weren't reined in to keep the group together and moving at a safe pace), but they were (both) very skilled, experienced, and resourceful. TMC's logistics, safety measures, and knowledge of trail conditions are also excellent. The only reason I took off a star was that their medical protocols were disorganized and inconsistent, which for me detracted from the experience.

It was my first time travelling with the Mountain Company & it really went off without a hitch. Every was pretty much on the mark as per our discussions prior to leaving. The guides and potters were great. A couple minor inconveniences but not big deal. You always have to remember where you are.
And then there was the people & the trek. People always smiling & kind. The trek was awesome.
I was left speechless.

Outstanding and personalized pre-trip planning was foundational to a successful trip. On the ground in Nepal Roland and company also provided outstanding service and a great trip with no surprises and great experiences.

The overall experience was just incredible. Kanchenjunga is just such a remote part of Nepal, which makes it a great trek. You are not dealing with a lot of people as in some of the other treks. It is changing a lot in that area though. Being able to be in the high mountains and seeing the peaks of Kanchenjunga, Jannu, Makalu all while on the trek is just amazing. All of the small villages along the may are just amazing to explore while at the camps. The local people in all of these stops are so friendly and welcoming into their culture. Personal I can not wait to be back into that region of Nepal.
The Mountain Company and all their staff are just absolutely incredible. From the start of planning and prep for the trip they are always there to answer any and all of the questions that may come up. The local staff and guides while on trek are so experienced and knowledgable as well. They have created a itinerary that is set up for a very enjoyable and successful trekking experience. I cannot wait to take part in more of their trips.

Having wanted to explore the Snow Leopard wild country of Bhutan - I had to wait through Covid and thankfully The Mountain Company had a visa as soon as they reopened. Since TMC has run this trek numerous times, we were very fortunate to be super cared for by local experienced guides. Food was great. Tent camping a breeze. The scenery was Spectacular. Absolutely no complaints. Seriously!

Roland and his team ensured that despite an early abort of our main objective due to bad weather, we had a great Nepalese adventure. Plan B was put in place immediately, and the needs and wishes of each member of the team were considered and accomodated wherever possible. I'll use this company again.
