Thank you for your feedback — we fully understand why you’re upset.

To clarify: VPN Secure was acquired in 2023 through an asset-only sale — meaning we took over the technology, but not the contracts, payments, or legal obligations from the prior company (Boost Network Pty Ltd).

Even so, we kept all Lifetime Deal (LTD) accounts running for two extra years at our own cost — despite never receiving any of the original payments.

We know many customers will still walk away, and we respect that. But please know that our responses aren’t “standardized to avoid responsibility” — they’re part of us answering every review (even the harshest) openly and directly.

We wish you the best, no matter what you choose next.

Absolutely terrible! Fraud/Robbery!

Absolutely terrible! I loved this VPN and purchased a lifetime plan for it some years back and long story short they did a rug pull after a new company acquired them and then have the nerve to email all of us saying that they never knew when they bought the company that a bunch of people had lifetime subscriptions. Well that's bull crap and they even admitted in the email that a simple googling of it would have told them the answer. Anyways, their response has been to offer those of us who did buy lifetime packages a one-time offer of $55 for 3 years... No refund no here. Pay 55 bucks and will reinitiate the lifetime plan. No nothing. Just a bunch of excuses and then a slight discount and for only 3 years at that and then we're back. Stuck paying whatever the regular price is monthly or yearly. I highly recommend anybody thinking about using VPN secure to literally go with any other company, but me personally. I would recommend surf shark if they have some amazing deals going on and their features are awesome!

Oh and one more thing. What upset me now than anything was my service just stopping one day, no warning, no nothing. It just went from having like 4000+ days of service remaining to ZERO and stopped working. Bare minimum they could've offered us a new lifetime plan at a very reduced cost and the majority of us would have accepted that, but the problem is they're just trying to absolve themselves of liability and offer a one time, 3 year discounted rate at $55.00
Sorry but hell no. I gave my money to SurfShark after a little research and will stick with them. I wouldn't go back to VPNSecure if they gave out to me for free now strictly out of principle. They survived 2 years hosting us and would survive forever continuing honoring the lifetime deal that we purchased, but they would rather just tank their reputation and ride this wave of "we're being transparent" well yes you are and we see through it. What you want is for 1,000s of us to pony up more money for a service we already owned, NOPE. I'm sure this company will survive, but the cost that they have now had to incur because of the negative reviews is going to do way more damage to them then had they just eaten it and carried on serving those who had the lifetime deal.

Thank you for sharing your detailed perspective — we truly understand how upset you (and many others) feel about this situation.

To clarify a few key points:

✅ The abrupt cutoff:
We fully acknowledge that the service shutoff came with poor advance notice. That was a failure on our side due to a mail system breakdown — we take responsibility for that and have apologized openly in our messages.

✅ Why not just “eat” the cost and continue?
While we did keep the Lifetime Deal (LTD) accounts running for two extra years after acquiring only the tech assets in 2023, the truth is the system was unsustainable. LTD users accounted for 90% of server use and support tickets, while generating zero revenue under the new structure. We weren’t “rug pulling” — we were trying to keep a sinking ship afloat with no funds from those original LTD sales.

✅ Why offer 3 years instead of a new LTD?
We agree that Lifetime Deals on infrastructure-heavy services (like VPNs) are a flawed business model — they collapse under their own weight. That’s why we offered deeply discounted multi-year plans instead, which we can actually sustain over time.

We know many of you will walk away — and that’s your right. But please know this was not about greed or deception. It was about transparency, survival, and trying to rebuild something functional out of a broken legacy.

We wish you the best with SurfShark and thank you for the time you were with us.

We hear your frustration — and we fully understand how betrayed many Lifetime Deal users feel.

To clarify: our team does care deeply about reputation, which is why we’ve openly explained the situation rather than hide behind silence. VPN Secure was acquired in 2023 as an asset-only transaction — meaning we purchased the technology, not the contracts, payments, or liabilities from the previous owners (BoostNetwork Pty Ltd).

Even so, we kept those accounts active for two extra years at our own cost, trying to bridge the gap and maintain goodwill.

We know this message won’t satisfy everyone — but closing the company wouldn’t be more “ethical.” We’re here, we’re still working hard, and we’re trying to rebuild the right way.

We respect your decision if you choose to walk away.

Thanks for your comment — we understand where the anger comes from.

We want to clarify that when we acquired VPN Secure in 2023, it was an asset-only deal: we got the tech, not the contracts, not the obligations, and not the payment records. We weren’t even given visibility into the Lifetime Deals sold by the old company (Boost Network), as they were processed externally and never disclosed.

Even so, we chose to keep those Lifetime accounts running for two additional years at our own cost — not because we were legally required to, but because we believed it was the right thing to soften the transition.

We know that may not change your view, and we respect your choice to move on. But please know we’ve been handling this as openly as possible, even under tough circumstances.

We understand why you feel this way — and we fully acknowledge that “lifetime” carries a heavy expectation.

But to clarify: we didn’t sell or collect payments for those Lifetime Deals. We acquired only the infrastructure (not the contracts or payment records) from the previous owners in 2023 — and the funds you paid went entirely to them, not to us.

We know that doesn’t make it feel any better, but it’s why we’ve encouraged anyone seeking refunds to contact the original sellers or platforms (like StackSocial) where those deals were purchased.

We appreciate you sharing your frustration, and we genuinely wish this transition had been smoother for all involved.

It's already been said... where is the 0 star option?

Not much more I can say that hasn't already been said. The company welcomed replies and bounced back emails. When I wrote their support directly with my concerns they gave me a very pointed, borderline rude reply.

We can make statements with AI too... Some food for thought - not enough characters to give the full breakdown, but it looks like they are likely liable despite denying liability. Here is the extremely summarized version.

"Despite VPN Secure's claims of an asset-only purchase and ignorance regarding "Lifetime Deals" (LTDs), they are highly likely to be held liable for these obligations. This is due to the "mere continuation" doctrine, as they operated under the same brand, offered identical services, and customers were initially unaware of any ownership change. The company even acknowledged the perception of being the same entity and supported LTD accounts for two additional years, further solidifying the argument for successor liability given the original entity's likely dissolution."

Thank you for laying out your perspective so thoroughly — we hear you.

While we fully acknowledge the frustration (and anger) behind this, we respectfully stand by the legal and operational reality:
✅ VPN Secure was acquired through an asset-only sale,
✅ no contracts, liabilities, or revenues from Lifetime Deals were transferred,
✅ the old entity (Boost Network Pty Ltd) still exists independently, and
✅ we were not a “mere continuation” because there was no merger or corporate transfer — only a tech and infrastructure acquisition under a new jurisdiction.

We know this won’t change your mind, and you’re free to explore any legal route you wish. We’re not here to silence anyone — just to clarify facts where we can, even when the conversation is hard.

The Company is legit and trying to make it work

First of all, I wouldn’t trust most negative reviews on them. A lot of these folks signed up for a “lifetime” subscription to a VPN service more years ago than they can count (I did it too). Before their acquisition I had quit using the VPN so many years before because it was so bad. I thought the email sent out couldn’t have been better about clearly laying out their “asset only” purchase and was clear about stating the terms of such. I thought it was incredibly vulnerable and human of them and for that, they have my respect. But sharks will be sharks and they sensed that vulnerability and instead of showing support have review bombed them. I personally opted to renew for 3 years at $55 which is far below even the basic tiers of their competitors. I did end up requesting a refund after several days of issues setting up the VPN but the customer service I received was both professional and timely and I appreciate that. Once I asked for a refund it was refunded in no time and the subscription was cancelled. I really wish the best for the new owners and hope they can find new customers willing to pay a fair price for a VPN service.

Booo

Oh, boo hoo, you're the victims now? You kept lifetime accounts that people paid for active for two years, even though they weren’t making you money. Yet, you retained the company name, website, branding, logo, and user base and reputation and now you get to offload the liabilities, namely the lifetime accounts, while still pretending to be the victim?

Is this all because it's taking too long to turn a profit? You could have honoured the existing lifetime accounts and simply stopped offering new ones which would’ve solved the problem in the long run. But no, you had to squeeze every last penny out of the very people who helped build your reputation.

You also had the option of disabling inactive accounts temporarily and allowing users to reactivate if they chose to a far more reasonable and ethical approach.

People buy VPNs for privacy and trust. And whichever “genius” thought this move was smart has now eroded all remaining trust down to the bare bones. Well done. And I don't need to mention if you were going for bad press for popularity the VPN Market is the least favourable for that.

And spare us the “we didn’t know there were lifetime accounts” excuse. If you genuinely bought a company and didn’t uncover that in your due diligence, then you’re either incompetent or you think your customers are idiots. But I don’t believe you’re fools, I think you're just playing the fool to dodge accountability.

I want a full list of the other companies you own so we can shame those too because I won't be surprised if this scam is your business model. This kind of unethical, deceptive behaviour needs to be publicly condemned to discourage other shitty company owners like you from doing this sort of thing.

Thanks for laying it out bluntly — we know you’re angry, and we won’t sugarcoat our reply.

Here’s the hard truth:

✅ We did not buy the old company, we only bought its technology, software, and infrastructure.
✅ We inherited no contracts, no payment relationships, no liabilities — just the tools, which we rebuilt over two years while supporting legacy LTD users at our own expense.
✅ The seller (BoostNetwork Pty Ltd, Australia) did not disclose the LTD deals in the financial records, and the external LTD transactions (e.g., StackSocial) never appeared in any merchant statements provided. That’s not “playing the fool” — that’s dealing with an asset-only transfer.

You’re right: trust matters. That’s why we’ve stayed public, replied openly to every review, and even acknowledged our mistakes (like communication delays).

We’re not here asking for sympathy — but we are here correcting false claims.

As for your request about “other companies we own”: VPN Secure is currently the only VPN service we operate, and we’re not hiding behind multiple brands. You’re welcome to hold us accountable here, but we suggest sticking to facts, not assumptions.

We hear you — and we fully understand why you see it this way.

We won’t call you wrong for feeling frustrated or even angry. But to clarify: this wasn’t a matter of “lack of research.” We conducted full due diligence based on the official financials, merchant records, and listings provided by the seller — none of which disclosed the existence of external lifetime deals sold through third parties like StackSocial.

We didn’t inherit the contracts or payments, but we still kept the service running for two extra years at our own cost before winding it down.

Thanks for the blunt take — we appreciate you spelling it out.

Here’s the key point:
We didn’t buy the company. We bought only the assets (servers, brand, infrastructure) through an asset-only sale — which, by legal definition, does not include contracts, obligations, or liabilities.

We know that sounds like a loophole to many, but it’s not about pretending to be stupid or hiring third-rate lawyers — it’s how Flippa sales are structured, and how the deal was signed under clear asset-only terms.

That’s why we never got access to payment records, merchant histories, or customer obligations tied to those old LTDs — they were held by Boost Network Pty Ltd (Australia), which we do not own or control.

You’re still completely free to walk away or disagree. But we’re not here to play dumb — we’re here to openly explain the facts, even when they make us unpopular.

Cancelling lifetime may be legal sure (in this case), but its unethical.

I have read many of the replies the company has made to other reviews and lets be clear this is a due-diligence issue. The acquiring company failed and is now punishing consumers because of it. Hiding behind the legal defense because "technically" they are within their right to do this. Just because its legal does not make it right. Many things in history were legal but not ethical.

At the end of the day, if they are willing to screw you over on this they will screw you over on anything if it hurts the bottom line.

Do not do business with a blatantly unethical company.

Keeping it running for two years isn't an act of good will, its a bare minimum facade to try and save face for a problem they caused themselves.

If the LTD customers would put them out of business then realistically they should have just went down with the ship as it is their own fault for not reading the fine print, they had access to the financials they knew what they were getting as much as they may claim to not know the info was all there whether they paid attention to it or not. At least going out of business is a justifiable excuse for not honoring the lifetime deal.

Edit:
You may not see this as its an edit but I read your response and do understand where you are coming from. If that is true and in an asset only sale you do not see the contracts and obligations of the company who's assets your buying then you successfully managed to buy your self a problem which is unfortunate but a risk you take buying other peoples failures.

I would say in that case you would have been better off just keeping the assets closing down "VPN Secure" and opening it as a new business with a new name as that is effectively what happened here but cloaked under the guise of this still being "VPN Secure" the original company that people bought into.

In a business area like VPN service where reputation is everything and makes or breaks the business this was a fairly big oversight to completely tank the rep of the business you bought rather than just starting fresh with a new name with no recognition which is likely what you will end up having to do now, but this will likely follow you to any other VPN company you start as the people who don't honor lifetime deals even though that is not technically what happened here.

Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose if you really didn't find all this out until a bit into operating the service then that is unfortunate but that is the inherit risk of continuing to use a name that people trust. That trust whether warranted or not gets transferred to you.

I sympathize to a degree but I still maintain that its unethical to operate a company under the same name without taking that company's liabilities as the name itself is the brand and the brand is built on trust so if you aren't going to honor the original agreements the trust and reputation that brand garnered is destroyed. I do understand however that this is not what you set out to do when acquiring the assets of VPN Secure but ultimately that is what happened and in this day and age when every company possible is trying to wriggle out of life time commitments like VMWare in the name of higher profits its harder for people to believe it was not intentional.

Thank you for laying this out so directly — we really do hear the ethical challenge you’re raising.

You’re right: just because something is legal doesn’t automatically make it feel ethical or fair to customers. We don’t deny that.

But here’s the reality we want to clarify:
We didn’t inherit access to the contracts, we didn’t inherit the payment records, and the merchant systems we were given (PayPal, PinPayments) showed no trace of those StackSocial Lifetime Deals. That’s not ignoring fine print — that’s literally how the asset-only sale was structured.

We understand that to many, keeping the LTD accounts alive for two extra years seems like “the bare minimum” — but for us, it was two years of running 90% of our infrastructure costs on accounts we never earned a cent from, trying to keep things afloat with a team of just three people.

You may still judge us unethical — and that’s fair. But this wasn’t a calculated scheme or a cash grab. It was a small team trying to hold together something broken, while being open about it even when it brought a storm of backlash.

We respect that you may walk away — and we wish you better luck with your next provider.

beware, don't buy

I've bought a lifetime subscription a few years ago - last month my vpn suddenly stopped working without any warning. Later next day I've got an email saying a new company bought vpnsecure and claimed they didn't know about the lifetime subscriptions at the time of the purchase but out of the kindess of their hearts they kept the service running but now they had to cancel and if I want to have the service back here is a new subscription plan. Also if I wanted to contact them here is an email address - obviously I've sent an email immediately which bounced back as it's a "no-reply" email. Now I see the new owner claims they didn't buy the actual company only it's assets so they are not liable to honor previous contracts - my problem is if they continue to use the vpnsecure branding they should have honored those lifetime contracts otherwise they risk quite a backlash - just as it happened. If they bought assets only they should have sent an email long time ago saying this company is going to disappear because of a buyout, we switch off the service on X date (in the future, not the prev. day!), if you want to come over to our new vpn provider here is a link for a discounted subscription. I guess they wanted to keep the branding but not the baggage with it and it backfired in a completely predictable manner.

Thanks for your blunt feedback — we hear the sarcasm loud and clear.

To clarify honestly: unused accounts still generate real costs — maintaining active databases, server capacity allocations, IP licensing, and (especially) handling customer support tickets, where 90%+ came from Lifetime users despite them being under 10% of revenue.

This wasn’t about chasing “mansions” or cooking up excuses. It was a small team, working with limited resources, inheriting an infrastructure mess from a seller who didn’t disclose key details. We did the best we could, even if the outcome disappointed many.

We get that you’re walking away — that’s your right — but we’re still here answering every review because transparency matters.
