It was very easy, not complicated and if you are interested in anything like gym swimming etc you should definitely use better for sure.

Good pool but rest wasn't great
Good pool which wasn't crowded. But changing room was dirty and staff not very helpful.
Disappointing that you need to buy a non-refundable token for using the lockers. And once you open the locker you need another token to close it again.
Comment from a year ago suggests they were reviewing the token system. I assume the extra revenue from it is too nice for them to change anything.

Terrible facilities
Terrible facilities, to start of, table tennis table is in an absolutely appalling condition, support beam broken, table is not straight whatsoever, net is torn apart and the table doesn't fold properly, a few close calls were experienced while trying to fold the table. Staff show no signs of replacing the table at all. I would also like to bring to attention that staff seem quite unengaged and less willing to carry out what they are supposed to do. When a table tennis booking is made at a certain time, the table is not set up causing the assembly of the table to cut down time of the booked session. Sessions are only 40 mins, taking 10 mins to set up the table, just cuts down the time. Paying £42 every month just seems like a waste. Poor equipment, staff seem unengaged, would not ever recommend anyone to ever book table tennis here. Disgusted by the look of the table. Also I have been coming to here for about 8 years, Sports hall lighting was only changed earlier this year.

Worse services than before and much…
Worse services than before and much more pricier than when we were with active newham before. The membership rates have gone up by 40% with no improvement in the facilities. We used to be able to swim for free if we had monthly swimming lessons but this was taken away. You replaced all the equipment but the older ones worked better than the new ones. Newham council needs to take back control of the leisure centres.

No air con and shit royalty free music
After coming here most days for 7 years I'm sadly now looking for a different gym and strongly recommend that people do not come here. It's bad enough that there's no air con in the group exercise studio so it's dangerously hot in the summer but now they've just told all the fitness instructors they can't play their own music anymore and have to use shit quality royalty free techno noise to save the centre money. It's completely killed the vibe. They didn't consult the customers about this and didn't listen when all complained. Don't come here.

Expensive for a charity and a number of health and safety issues
Recently refurbished East Ham Leisure Centre now looks good on the surface.
Unfortunately this appearance is counteracted by no working airconditioning or heating facility in the studio, where most classes take place.
In summer it is too hot and in winter it is too cold- this can be a health and safety issue - especially for yoga, pilates and slow mat based classes. The money spend on the refurbishment would have been better spend on fixing this. The studio has now also been turned into a multifunctional place with exercise bikes lining the back wall. Again unfortunately before spin classes these need to be pulled into position (in the process damaging the new floors) and often no personnel is available to do this, so either the instructors or the clients are moving the bikes in order to be able to start the class - unacceptable and a health an safety issue as the spin bikes are heavy. The centre has a spin studio with a functioning AC unit, but this has recently been re-designated into a stretch room - this seems like poor decision making.
It is also notable that better is a large chain the markets itself as charity, but the prices are pushed up annual (I had my membership raised twice by £8/£9 in the past 2 years). There are a lot of cheaper gym options near by. The only reason I am still a member is that there some excellent instructors.
Update:
Revised review to 1 star as further change have been implemented that affect the quality of all classes negatively:
Instructors are no longer allowed to use their own music/playlists as Better doesn‘t want to invest into the necessary&appropriate music licences. (Even school on super squeezed budgets afford this)
Instead Better implemented -without notice to customers- a generic music only policy. Meaning ai generated licence free noise for all classes.
Especially spin, Hiit and most other cardio classes thrive on the right rhythms, vibes and music precisely tailored to exercise segments.
The best instructors know this and that is why their classes are popular. A lot of regulars come for the individuality and signature vibes that the instructors bring, that includes the music, which made it fun!
We used to have a diversity of music styles which reflected the diversity of customers and population of newham, all now replaced by tunes of the tone deaf licence free noise.
Sadly the best instructors are now leaving- and I will take this as a sign to do the same.
Btw the first reply from Better is ambiguous and implying the spin bike have been moved (back) upon customer request. Not the case. They remain in the (yoga) studio, still without aircon.
Overall would not recommend.

We're currently working on fixing the air conditioning units in the studio and poolside changing village.
Please note that we operate the Centre on behalf of the local council, who plan to resolve this during the year.
We're deeply sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, and we're awaiting the date when the work will commence.
The spin bikes have recently been moved to the main studio, which is standard across all Better facilities.
At our customers’ request, we relocated the spin classes to a calmer area, as we value member feedback and always try to make changes where possible.
In relation to the price increase, we regularly review our Membership plans.
From time to time, this means gradually adjusting historic pricing structures to bring them in line with our current headline membership rates.
