I bought a pair of Gelert "hiking boots" as a gift for a friend. He wore them occasionally over about three months and both soles of the boots are completely worn through to the in the inside of the shoe. So I contacted Gelert themselves through their Facebook page where I found their reviews to be switched off on their page(big red flag for any company) and I found lots of people posting pictures in the comment section of their boots with holes in them. I got a message back to say I needed to contact sports direct themselves. Thats funny because sports direct say to contact the manufacturer. So they both like to pass the buck! Clearly the product is not fit for purpose and people should be refunded. I've ended up buying some lovely North Face hiking boots to replace their cheap chinese tack.

Tried to return a pair of leaky Gelert boots today, bought at the end of April used them on a couple of hikes but they leaked last week in mild rain. The shop assistant initially tried to tell me that the boots were not advertised as Waterproof, when I questioned who buys non waterproof hiking boots she assured me she knew lots of people who only used boots in dry weather. We live in Ireland it rains a lot and without warning. Anyway, it seemed I was getting nowhere when I noticed the boots have a small label stating "waterproof" did not get my money back but they exchange the Gelert for a karrimor pair which are theoretically a better boot. Time will tell.
Clearly Sports Direct know the Gelert product is not fit for purpose so why keep selling it.

omg! was just going to email Gelert about the third pair of leaky boots/shoes but after reading these reviews it seems like I'll be wasting my time - that is if I can actually find the customer service contact email.
Bought a pair of boots last year, took them back to sports direct after getting wet feet walking through a muddy field with my dog, the first time I wore them - "you've already worn them!" she said...how else would I know they are leaking?! After getting the duty manager, they exchanged them for another pair. After 3 months the new pair started squelching and leaking. Couldn't get them exchanged so decided to buy another pair of Gelert LOW waterproof shoes (Silly me trusting Gelert again!) they lasted 4 months, great...and then started leaking!!! Grrr!!! didn't know the brand was owned by Sports Direct.
Don't buy Gelert Waterproof shoes/ boots!!

By contrast to other very negative reviews of Gelert walking boots, I've had a pair for a few years now. They have only recently begun to 'fray at the edges'. They are the best fitting boots I've had. Almost like shoes. And, by contrast to other boots such as Peter Storm, they have not comer apart at the seams or where the boot flexes. They have holes in the heels after 2 years use in hill country; this is to be expected. They are still very usable in town. The reason I have to buy new boots is because the water is coming in through the heels now. But after 3 yrs good use I am well satisfied with them esp. as I got them at at a discount (£30 instead of £60). Thank you Gelert.

Appalling quality products. Here’s why.
On 14/2/2019 I purchased a pair of Gelert Ottawa Low Sn shoes from a Sports Direct shop in a shopping centre at Canada Water, London. I have the receipt. The shoes had allegedly been priced £44.99, but were reduced to £21.99.
On returning to my London base, I looked up the brand Gelert on the internet, and saw shocking reports about the durability of these shoes. Without wearing them, I went to a different branch of Sports Direct (Kilburn High Road, London) and asked a person at the till f I could have a refund. I was told that this was not company policy, so I started wearing them. In less than four months the interior lining had worn through on both heels, and the outer surface of the shoe had started to deteriorate. On 9/6/2019 I attempted to return them (with the receipt) via the Kilburn High Road store for a refund or replacement, but was told by the manager that in his opinion the condition of the shoes was down to use and no refund or replacement would be forthcoming.
The idea that a £44 pair of shoes would only last a mere 4 months is ridiculous. Had the company refunded the cost of the shoes before they had been worn I would have been happy, but having been sold this product of appalling quality I had no choice but to wear them.
For what it’s worth, I am a retired 65 year old male, who is not a heavy person, and the shoes were not used for any kind of sporting activity.

Both shoes split under heel after very little use. Comfortable but don’t last weeks, not marketable quality, will return to sports direct for refund, some hope they must know they’re selling sub standard product. How is Mike Ashley’s customer service?

Same for me too . Worst thing I've ever spent my hard earned money on. Brought last June leaked by December. Brought for simple dog walking. Took them back to sports direct, given the answer what do you expect for that money. Absolutely shockingly service and product. Thought I was getting a bargain not at all. Waste of money

Looked up a cool box on Sports direct site - selling at £14.99 in brackets (£55) Wow you think, a £30 saving........Wrong, look up Gelert site and the exact same cool box is selling at £21.99. As Gelert is owned by Sports Direct the £55 is a complete lie. Go elsewhere, I did!!

Bought water proof hiking shoes for work. Mind you, all I have to do is get in cars drive them to a destination and get into another one. These so-called hiking boots we're filled with water on the third day from Simply walking through wet grass. Never been so disappointed in my life about a pair of shoes. Buyer beware stay away. Companies like gelert need to be shut down to keep honest people from buying their products and being ripped off even if price seems low, should not be able to get away with false advertisement! Wouldn't even give them one star if it wasn't necessary to make a review

Bought a pair of 'Waterproof' walking boots from Sports Direct a few months ago, they are not waterproof. First time they came in contact with dew covered grass I got wet feet. Useless. I emailed Gelert to tell them and got a really idiotic response from their 'Customer Service'. Wrote back to correct all the mistaken information - they had ignored what I'd actually written in the email. Have had no response since. Will never buy them again.

My wife has Just thrown her Gelert so called waterproof boots in the bin, first time I
she wore them just on wet grass her feet were soaked. Wore them in the rain and it felt like water was pouring in even though they were labelled as waterproof, I
She said she might as well have been wearing no shoes at all. Unfortunately I
she lost the receipt so I
couldn't take them back. They were completely unfit for purpose and worse than useless.

Appallingly made and leaked from the start, even when walking on wet tarmac.
Then most of the lace eyes ripped off the shoe.
After 4 months, they had to be thrown away.
A disgusting rip off product, which is unsurprising as the brand is owned by Mike Ashley. That should be warning enough.

AWFUL!!!!! Worn 7 times and both soles have split! Bought from Sports Direct and they only offer exchange or credit note. Neither of which i want. The staff are completely unhelpful and said they havent received any complaints about these

Just to add bit more on these boots.
They are meant to be waterproof but let in after one wear.
My socks were wet after every wear cos they are not breathable and your feet sweat in them. They were reduced from 85 euro to 50 euro but in hindsight I would'nt take them for free! I brought them back but unfortunately never kept the receipt. They would have to be the worst footwear I've ever purchased.
STAY WELL CLEAR OF GELART.

Very comfortable boots but sadly only lasted a couple of months in the summer before the autumn rains soaked both my feet. Soles are very soft and thin and have several splits in them. Have emailed customer service and await their response. Avoid these boots.

I’ve had my walking leather boots less than a year. Wore them from December to April then one boot started leaking. A waste of money

It's owned by SportsDirect, as you probably know... so it looks the sole purpose of Gelert site is to provide full scale prices for buyers reference while SportsDirect offers these products with significant discount (which is actually fair price for their stuff). Same applies for Karrimor, Lonsdale, Everlast... You check their site, see £100 price and than find out that SD with their £35 for this product is a great deal 😀 don't be fooled by big discount, it's just normal retail price... I do not think it's fair business practice, although not illegal most likely. And remember, with these guys you'll get what you pay for.
P.S. Bought a pair of Gelert boots from SD with 50% discount of course 😀. Boots are kind of ok despite the fact they look much better on pictures and they have Gelert logo on a side not shown on pictures... actually I would have had these returned in case these were bought from some reputable retailer, but knowing quality of their customer service, its not worth the hassle...

My Gelert hiking shoes just after couple months of wearing inner lining was broken, thus waterproof plastic layer got out of order too. They became completely holey in terms of water resistancy. Looks very poor quality...

I have had a pair of waterproof Gelert hiking boots since September.
They lasted 4 weeks before my foot went through the sole.
To say I am disappointed is a massive understatement.
Would have expected more from the brand considering my camping gear is mostly Gelert.
