MOT was quick and easy to book, and the staff were great throughout. Dan in particular was excellent — he clearly explained the whole process and also gave helpful information about getting a service done. I’ll definitely be going back and would highly recommend.

They were unable to fix the issue as they did not have the correct tools & referred me to another car garage that was not Halfords which was bizarre turning away business to another company. The MOT was failed even though I booked it in for a service, common sense would have been to carry out the service then MOT, so they marked down something that was dangerous but didn’t have the tools to fix it so , I was told not to drive it ? I then had to get it serviced and MOT the next day so another day off work.

Halfords Dover and a messed up MOT
I had an MOT in December 2025 at the Halfords in Dover.
A couple of months ago I decided to see what the value of my car was as I was considering it. That is when I discovered that whoever the incompetent was that carried out my MOT, they recorded the miles as kilometres thereby affecting the value of my car. Now, it records 100,000 miles when it was actually 100,000 kilometres.
The car is a UK car, right hand drive. I cannot fathom how anyone could be this careless.
It gets worse.
I went in to speak to the guys about this matter and they saw no reason, made no effort to fix the problem. They insisted they could not. I asked about reporting it to the DVLA for correction but they said that was not possible. These layabouts did nothing to correct the matter.
I made further enquiries and was given contact details for making a complaint online, which I did. Eventually, a young lady contacted me by email and asked for the MOT number, which I sent to her. I have never heard from her again.
I visited the Halfords store in Folkestone (service has always been quite acceptable) and spoke with the manager, who was leaving in a week. He was annoyed that Halfords had made a mess of my MOT mileage and called them. He told them that this was their error and they were to correct it. He explained that their error had knocked thousands off the value of my car. 100,000 miles is less attractive to a buyer than 63,000 miles. He left the company and I had to forge ahead on my own. I spoke with someone, by telephone, at the Halfords Dover store. They told me they would do the MOT again (after initially saying they could not do it over), but I would have to pay for it. I advised in no uncertain terms that this was unacceptable. Pay to fix their error.

To date: they have done nothing to correct the issue.
Only someone highly incompetent could write kilometres instead of miles on a British, right-hand drive car.
As of the writing of this, my MOT remains in kilometres.

I will be seeking compensation for the devaluation of my vehicle, for their poor service, their incompetence and inconvenience. I paid for an MOT and £450 for a repair, and this is the shoddy service I get?

Big shout out to Halfords at Portrack Lane Stockton, friendly management/staff, really helpful with getting both our cars in for MOTs which were close to running out. Big thanks again guys will definitely use again.

So took my car mot and service .they rung me to tell me my coil was broken and the rubber cup worn .so i asked how much labour and parts they quoted me 369 pound parts and think it was around £70 fitting .i rang some car parts place a uo gave my reg ,and the price to buy a coil for my car was £69 pound so my mot service parts would have come to around £750 .gave them £120 for oil and filter and it should have been £140 they knocked £20 off for putting oil in . So im using another garage all in service ,brake pads filter coil mot . £360 all in i feel robbed by halfords . its not machanics it s halfords themselves that do the price apparently .But they was willing to do mot .knowing that its going to fail even though they knew ,that when they did he said my car would not be allowed on road till fixed .so i told them dont bother. Avoid at all cost and do ur homework .

My Car was booked in for a Service and MOT for
11-30am. On arrival I was told the MOT was scheduled for 3-00pm. Could I have not been informed that there was two bookings times. Very disappointed at the unnecessary confusion.

I just got charged £200.79 for a part I understand costs around £20 to buy that takes 30mins to fit. Is it called Halfords or Halfrauds. Stay clear if you don’t want to be turned over. Bitter pill to swallow on my part but I won’t be utilising their services again. Hope their CEO gets to read this.

Booked my MOT online for a Sunday, very convenient. Staff were helpful, would recommend to others.

Two new tyres fitted promptly although we were late for our booking with the best advices offered I felt

Used Halfords Autocentre Newbury a number of years for my families cars, always received good customer service and been pleased with job done.

Friendly efficient and knowledgeable staff

After searching for premium all season tyres, came across Pirelli SF3 at a really good price. Booked online, and they got me in bang on time. Swapped front to back, torqued nuts up correctly and was on my way. Explained tyre warranties to me and offered wheel alignment which is to be expected and I'll probably do this next time. Top guys at Halifax branch.

Took my car to Halfords, Mark Road for MOT and all staff were polite, courteous, helpful and informative. Fab service!!

I booked online 3 weeks in advance of a service and delivered the car to the Rodney Road branch. On the day, I had not heard from the garage by 4 pm so went to collect the car. They said they had not been able to do the service because they didn't have the parts, but no-one had bothered to phone me. I had a 40 minute walk from home to the garage, so I had to do that twice that day. I booked the car in for another day, so another 2 x 40 minute walks from home. When I collected the car, they had painted each of the 4 tyres with yellow lines all around the edges. They said this was to point out a fault. The car is one year old and has 6000 miles on the clock, the tyres are legal. They said the yellow lines were permanent and they couldn't remove them. I am still waiting (6 days later) for a reply from the Customer Service Department to tell me when and how they will remove this paint from my tyres.

These guys at Thurrock centre always engage with you during your time in the waiting area and are A1 for customer care, iv done my MOT with them now three years in a row and its always been the same, this year my 2021 ford transit custom day van passed but had an advisory, they fully explained the situation and time frame advised to do the work in, on looking myself I have to agree with the testers advise its quite refreshing to have the clear truth and I feel much safer knowing my day van was checked so comprehensively and was not failed on a minor issue just to make more money. Well done Thurrock Halfords team.

Buyers beware, if you do not want to lose your money. Refund Received

I wanted a winter check, and booked an 8.30 am slot, I received a confirmation of booking email.

I arrive today and they tell me to leave the car and they will ring me between 3 and 5 pm, I said I had an 8.30 am booking, to be told this is only a dropping off time, not a booking time and it says so in the confirmation, so I had to leave as I am going out for the day after the appointment was completed!

When I got home I did check the email, and it starts as CONFIRMATION OF BOOKING at 8.30 am, it is when you get to nearly the bottom of the email it says about dropping off and may be all day.

DO NOT START THE EMAIL WITH CONFIRMATION OF BOOKING, the explanation about drop off and all day should be up top.

I consider my £15 fee to have been STOLEN.

I do need 4 New tyres ready for winter, I have used Halfords for a number of years for my tyres, AND all the other times it was a booking!

Today I have received an email and my £15 has been refunded.

But due to the confusion of the email giving different information, I would have preferred for my car to have had a pre winter check.

But thank you for the refund.

Two of my friends had the same experience. MOT came free with premimum membership and Halfords Autocentres found hard-to-find defects that are likely to be Minor in other MOT centers.
Also, the quote they gave for repair is overly inflated. It looks they are robbing customers nicely!

I fixed the advisories from last mot apart from the one that said rusty springs took for the mot & failed on emissions no mention of the springs that I hadn’t fixed ! It’s a total farce ! Mot guy even bragged that his own car wouldn’t pass emissions so he does his own mot ! How is this even allowed !?
