Comfortably the worst returns experience of any e-retailer I’ve ever had. They’ll charge you extortionately for the privilege of returning an item that wasn’t as advertised and - over a month later - no sign of the refund.

Distinctly scammy - avoid.

Unable to track order and failed delivery commitment

As someone who works in online security, I recognise that I should have carried out proper due diligence before purchasing from this company. Unfortunately, their website prominently displays only five-star reviews, which raises concerns about their authenticity.

After placing my order, I paid an additional fee for expedited delivery via DPD, expecting my item within 24 hours. However, the tracking number provided corresponded to an unrelated delivery that had already been completed last year. I subsequently contacted customer service via email but have not received any response. I also called several times but unfortunately no answer and their answering services kept ending the call!

Having now reviewed feedback on Trustpilot, it appears that this is a recurring issue. Other customers report similarly poor experiences, particularly regarding unresponsive and ineffective customer service.

At present, I have no reliable way to track my order or determine whether it will be delivered, which is concerning given the number of comparable complaints from other customers.

UPDATE: I was able to contact customer services by phone. The representative appeared to be working remotely rather than from an office environment; however, they were courteous and professional throughout the interaction. They explained that the issue was due to complications within the DPD system and confirmed that they were actively following up on my complaint with DPD.

Following this conversation, I received a response to my earlier email offering a refund of the shipping costs if the parcel did not arrive that day. As a result, I have increased my rating by one star. Unfortunately, the parcel did not arrive as anticipated.

I will provide a further update to this review once I have received the flat cap I ordered, including an assessment of the quality of the material, as well as confirmation on my shipping costs refund.

Hat was for a gift

Hat was for a gift. When it arrived I was very happy with the quality and colour. My friend loved his gift and was extremely happy with the fit also.
Not my first order and won’t be the last.

Perfect

Wow! I don’t often make the effort with reviews. Hat is simply perfect and I’ve ordered another so that’s just great! I’ve been struggling to find the perfect hat for the past year and I’ve finally found the place to go! I’d certainly gone more than 10 stars! Thank you!

Customers? We don't need no stinkin' customers.

With a rating of 3.7 out of 5 it's no surprise that Hats and Caps doesn't care about their customers. All they do is sell products that other companies make so they should not be rated on the quality of products that they don't produce. They are simply resellers and as such their rating should be heavily weighted towards the customer service they provide. In my experience with Hats and Caps I rate them a 0 out of 5. My first negative encounter came when a cap I was interested in was sold out in my size, but I was given the option of being notified when the cap was restocked. OK, good. One day while browsing the website I came across the cap in question and found that the cap had been restocked in my size. I never received a notification. Strike one. My next negative experience came recently when I ordered three caps. A delivery date was provided and one week before that date I began receiving notifications from the transfer company that the parcel would be delivered on Monday January 5 of the following week. The next notice I received was on January 5 informing me that the parcel was out for delivery. I modified my plans for the day so as to be home during the day. End of day arrived without the parcel being delivered nor receiving any form of notification from the transfer company. The next day Tuesday Jan 6 I received notice that the parcel would be delivered on Monday Jan 5 (yes, the day before the 6th) and that the parcel was out for delivery. Again, end of day arrived without the parcel being delivered nor receiving any form of notification from the transfer company. On Wednesday Jan 7 I received notice from the transfer company that my parcel would be delivered on Thursday Jan 8. Again, end of day Jan 8 arrived without the parcel being delivered nor receiving any form of notification from the transfer company.

At this point I wrote to Customer Service and related my experience. I was told that due to the holiday season shipments were being delayed, and further that Hats and caps had no control over their transfer agents. I received no further messages from the transfer company and the parcel finally arrived on Friday Jan 9. The box containing the three hats was crushed and so were the caps inside.

I once again wrote to Customer Service and told them that they did in fact have control over the transfer company and if they did not provide acceptable service they should cease using them.
I also asked if it would be acceptable if 1 out of every 10 shipments never arrived at the intended destination? Would Hats and Caps still claim that they had no control over the delivery agent?

I also included 5 photos of the crushed box and the crushed caps contained within.

Today is Jan 27 and I still have not received a reply regarding the condition of the parcel I received.

Over the last two or three years I have probably purchased eight to ten caps and/or hats from Hats and Caps and I can say now with complete assuredly those will be my last purchases from Hats and Caps. Apparently Hats and Caps takes not pride in the one aspect of their business that they truly do have control over. Customer Service. They are very good at processing transactions and collecting their retailer's fees, but concern for the satisfaction of their customer base - which as of today is -1 customer - does not register with them at all.

As for their choice of transfer agents I guess they have no control over that being they must simply place their shipments out front on the sidewalk and hope that someone picks them up for delivery. Doesn't matter who. Good-Bye

Perfect fit, great quality.

I was a bit sceptical about buying a cap online. I have a large head and it’s not easy to find caps that fit so when I saw this Harris Tweed flat cap that was 63cm I ordered it. It fits perfectly and is clearly well-made. It arrived in two days. Really pleased with my purchase.

Hopeless

Sometime ago, I returned an item for an exchange. I tried to telephone but such is the efficiency of this company that they never answer the telephone. I have sent an email chaser but goodness knows when or if at all I will receive a reply. I have purchased from this company before but will not do so again and I advise you to avoid them at all costs.

VILLAGE HATS --- A Quality Offering!

Had an idea in my mind's eye as to the type of hat I sought, but had no clue as to its name.
A search produced Village Hats, with the most comprehensive illustrations showing every conceivable style and images of models displaying the hats from different angles and a detailed description of materials used that made it easy to identify what I wanted.
The Jackson & James Brooklyn Newsboy Cap in navy blue (medium) was despatched via Royal Mail (second class) and arrived as anticipated.
Absolutely delighted with my purchase, which was just as described, and also the assistance I received from the helpful staff member who dealt with my payment query on ordering.
No hesitation in recommending this company's offering to others.

Had to call to ask where my order was, told me it will be dispatched today, 24hrs after I had placed a next day delivery order. Couldn’t then cancelled because “it has already been scanned”.

Cap not as described.

Update to the below some time after I posted this I was contacted (no mention of this review) with an apology and an offer of a 15% discount.... fair play

Cap not as described.
Polyester lined not cotton - false description remains.
No reply to a polite email - either a promise to email or no answer when calling.
£5 returns charge (and no guarantee of a refund if doing so) means I'm stuck. Wasn't expensive but will not use again.

Absolutely a rip off,

Absolutely a rip off,, ordered a men's cap.. Delivered on time,, cap is very poor quality,, return item not a problem... My is it cost me £6.10 to return the Cap,, it cost me £2.50 for delivery.. So in total I have spent £8.60 in postage for a cap that they are going to refund £17.95...,,really is this how companies work these days, charge you £21.91 for a cap that is really poor quality and then charge you £6.10 to return cap... So I am out of pocket £8.60...this should never be allowed.. Will never buy or recommend anyone to use this company... Absolutely Disgraceful.

very expensive returns

Ordered a bucket hat...the brim is way to wide for a bucket hat and so I am returning it. Only to find that their return cost is fully half the cost of the hat. In this day and age that's just not good enough

Info size too big than real and 27€ to send the hat back

I get the hat but it's much bigger than the size I chose. Then I discover that on the manufacturer's website he recommends purchasing one tagla less than the size you usually wear; It's a shame that this information was not present on the villagehats website. Result: 27€ to send the hat back. Total return shipping costs 37€ without menneno in the end having the product in hand. Poor and poorly communicated returns management.

Funny About Ordering Multiple Items

It’s been some years since ordering from this company but all my transactions went relatively okay. However, there were some customer service issues that put me off from becoming a loyal customer.

1) I have the strong belief that no two ‘identical’ products are exactly the same. When it comes to clothing and accessories, I am rarely proven wrong. In the case of headwear, I’ve always found that one product fits my head better than another identical product in the same size and colour. When I ordered from this company, I ordered two of everything, just to be on the safe side. This is where things got weird...

Every single time, the company phoned me to check that I hadn’t made a mistake with my order! No other company has ever done that with me for online orders. Naturally, I found the experience very annoying, especially when two (seemingly) identical hats can fit very differently on the same head.

2) Unless faulty, returns aren’t free
 which makes the previous point even more annoying. If I’m paying for returns, why should it matter if I order multiple items in the same size?

Having to pay for returns is one thing, but the company’s ‘nanny state’ style of its customer service was very off-putting.

They were extremely helpful on the phone and by email, when it was my fault when ordering!! They sorted it out professionally and promptly.
