So far, frustrating.

So far, ordering process is frustrating. Customers feel the need to be acknowledged when there are issues. I very much enjoy their website and am happy to have found it. However, I recently attempted to purchase a Sakai Takayuki 180mm VG10 Honesuki and sheath from the online store during the Father’s Day sale. I used the Paypal pay later installment option and it has been awaiting authorization for four days now. I have sent two other emails through the website, as well as from my gmail account and have gotten no response. In attempting to locate Japan Imports in Florida, there is no phone number and no location when I attempt to Google search the 18001 Old Cutler Road address.

Quality and after sales support lack8ng

Purchased set of seto Damascus steel with hammered finish for what seemed like a healthy sum (over 500). One knife in set arrived with only a single blade side having the hammered finish. Was less than three months of home use before first blade was loose in handle. 20 months later, second blade loose. Company appears to delete any negative product reviews, and declined to offer any product support on defects/failures. Poor support for high end purchase. The Henkels we got as wedding present 30 years ago have held up much better, for fraction of cost

Perfect Knife!

Beautiful Knife... The blade is like a dream, Sharper then what I have found at kitchen stores and absolute a pleasure to hold. I got this pairing knife for my wife and she was blown away from the looks. she then had to just start cutting things. about 5 minutes in she was talking about how perfect the Handle was and the length. It fit her so well that pretty much everything got cut that night. The service that I received was beyond my expectation. The Hocho website was easy and user friendly and made for finding the perfect blade easy. The selection to chose from is the largest I have found. Highly recommend ordering from here. Shipping was super quick too!

I ordered a Sakai Takayuki 240mm chef


I ordered a Sakai Takayuki 240mm chef knife and a pairing knife in January my order was postponed because the chef knife was on preorder however last week i saw that that knife was back for sale and in stock. I haven’t received any updates or email. I reached out via email and on their website still no contact from them. It’s currently April 8th and nothing. I will ask for a refund soon and check out other options if I hear nothing back. I really wish I didn’t have a bad experience with this business.

Regarding the stock status issue, it turned out that the cause was that one customer who was waiting for arrival changed the item and this item was restocked on the system. This product is still out of stock, but we will ship it as soon as it arrives, so please wait.

Hocho Knife Beware!

I purchased a knife from Hocho Knife in December 2021. When I first attempted to use the knife, the wood handle and horn collar broke on the top of the blade as it entered the handle. After using their message service, they informed me that Japanese knife makers do not offer lifetime warranties. They also stated there was little they could offer to help. They have not responded to further messages. After some searching I noticed they also provide no contact information of any type. It appears they are an import business located in Florida with only a webpage.

We would like to check the item if you could send the photo showing the detailed condition or return the product.
If we may confirm the knife as an apparently defective item, of course, we would replace it with another item and cover the return shipping fee.
Sorry for your inconvenience, but please be noted that the return or replacement must be reported within 7 days after the delivery.

We are afraid that the wood handle is made of natural material which may be directly affected by the condition of use by customers.
Therefore, we would recommend that our customers to keep the wood handle dry as much as possible to prevent water from penetrating into the hole holding the blade, not to clack due to moisture.
It is the same situation for all knives made of the natural material no matter what price range.

We may cooperate to solve your issue, so we would appreciate if you may share the detialed situation with us sending photo of the damaged knife to our e-mail address or from contact page.

Please be noted that most knife makers in Japan will not provide the lifetime warranty as the way of usage can have a significant effect on the condition of your knives.
Instead, they promise long-lasting quality as long as the proper maintenance is applied.

What a JOKE this company is

I ordered a 200.00 filet knife for my nephew who's a avid fisherman. He's used to using knives for filleting his fish. When he opened the gift...he did a bend test . It stayed bent. Company refuses to do anything. Blamed him for not knowing how to use knife.....He never got the chance.

We are afraid that the bent test is not appropriate for the kitchen knife especially made by our blacksmiths.
Most of our products are created by named blacksmiths having a “hard blade” whose typical merit is sharpness but not flexibility.
(Please aware that the hard blade can be broken if you would try to bent, but the hard blades have the sharpness than soft and flex blades.)
If you would like the flexible and soft blade, there are some items in our store, but you may not expect such a sharpness.

PARCEL RECEIVED update

They just send me an email to contact Royal Mail, but the link takes me to Malta post.

IF there are no problems with the


IF there are no problems with the product the company is great. But if you have a problem these guys pretty much do everything in their power to dismiss responsibility. you can probably see this from the other revies. Recently bought 2 knives, one was perfect, the other had a couple dents/chips, and some rusting. according to them the chips are normal and part of production. There's no way any self respecting craftsman would pu their name to knives with chips. its clearly been dropped or banged against something. very poor customer service. but theres plenty of other retailers to buy from.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience, they send the wrong knife and use their usury return policy to protect themself from liabilty. Do not buy from them ever, you will regret dealing with these crooks.

Great knife and fast delivery

I purchased this sakai takayuki knife because I was looking for a sharp and beautiful single edged sashimi knife.
The grip is very smooth and comfortable. Great finish. Excellent steel, quite sharp out of the box. i used the knife for a month, I like knives this size for my cooking, so this knife is right. The saya also looks fine.
Hocho service is very good. Knife sent to my country properly packaged and on time.

poorly ground blade

Purchased a (singe bevel) knife which had defects whose extent was not obvious to me until used. The vendor and knife maker do not cover anything once the knife is used. The vendor offered no advise, compensation (not even a discount code), and failed to post my knife review. I do not recommend the vendor. Details follow.

Before using the knife, all I observed was a few parallel scratches in one area of the edge (both sides of the blade). After contacting the vendor, they suggested filing an insurance claim against the carrier. I declined because it’s essentially impossible to create that effect in shipping, plus the box was in perfect condition. In my opinion, the vendor (surely already knowing what I learned the hard way) should have requested the item be sent back for them to inspect, fix, replace, or refund. I thought it could be fixed with normal sharpening. I discovered two hollow spots on the blade road, one in the soft steel, and another in the hard steel extending to the edge where the scratches are. In addition, viewing the edge from the side, the edge is not flat where it’s supposed to be, and can’t contact the whetstone (or a cutting board), again in the area of the scratches. It’s probably fixable, but will take a lot of work, and I may have to get help. I fully understand these are hand-made, and not “perfect” and identical, but (in my opinion) defects at the blade edge are just not acceptable.

I suggest not purchasing a knife from a vendor that does not permit returns (unused) after a reasonable period like 2-4 weeks with no re-stocking fee. I suggest returning a knife with any signs of defects if you have any doubt they are symptoms of something else you can’t easily observe.

Beautiful knife.

If i had visited this site before making my purchase from Hocho-Knife I very well may have not gone through with it. Having said that I'm glad I didn't. The knife i ordered arrived 10 days after ordering, it was well wrapped for the journey from Japan to Australia and arrived without any damage. The knife itself is beautiful. Its super sharp and just gorgeous to behold. Not only is this a fantastic tool for the kitchen, it is also a work of art. Thankyou Hocho Knife for helping me realise my long held desire to own a Japanese knife. This knife will be treasured for many years to come.

My number 1 knife

After much research, I chose the KUROSAKI line for the best value for money, excellent quality at very good prices. I chose this line for the handle as well, very comfortable grip. This is my main knife and will definitely buy more in the future. Hocho-knife is an excellent seller, fast shipping with excellent tracking, and the best prices.

NOOOO

NOOOO! Never buy from them. I purchased a really expensive knife. The vendor packed it really poorly and it got bent during shipping.
I contacted them but only refunded $60 and refused to refund the rest of my order although I received an unusable knife and it is their fault for packaging the product so poorly. Money down the drain :(
NEVER AGAIN!!!

Spent $600 on two knives

Spent $600 on two knives. Full price.
All other sellers include the Saba.
They trick you by showing the knife with Saba snd do not disclose it is not included. Caviar Emptor.
Tried to cancel BEFORE item was shipped. They charge you 10%.
You need to spend 45 minutes reading the fine print.
Lesson....you get less than you pay for at Hocho.
I’ll never buy from them again.
Terrible experience.
