The hotbin has never worked…Don't buy!
The hotbin has never worked satisfactorily and I know from at least two other people that we are not alone. It requires a degree in biodegradation to operate and gives off an almighty whiff. I contacted support from Day One, literally, and though they are helpful we couldn't get our money back because we'd already put compost in it. It's a bit chicken & egg - you don't know it doesn't work until you try but once you've tried you can't get your money back. Expnsive mistake. Don't buy one.

We are sorry to hear that you are struggling with the HOTBIN operation. From your review mentioning the bad smell, this is an indication that the contents are anaerobic; commonly caused by too much moisture and/or a lack of airflow. This is re-balanced with the addition of paper/card to absorb moisture and woody material to encourage airflow. In addition we would always avoid layers of any type of material in the HOTBIN and ensure it is chopped up.
You mention you have been in contact with our customer services - however if you would like to get back in touch our helpful team will be happy to guide through a re-start.

Don't buy if you have any wildlife around
I contacted the company because my HotBin was damaged by a squirrel or raccoon, asking if they had advice for repairing the damage.
The response I got made it sound like I was lying about the source of the damage and their only suggestion was to purchase another unit.
Why would I spend another $300 on something that can be damaged so easily?

We absolutely understand your frustration — dealing with wildlife damage is stressful enough without feeling unsupported. While our bins are made from durable materials and typically stand up well in outdoor environments, we appreciate that nature can be unpredictable, and we take these types of incidents seriously.
From reviewing the email trail, it’s clear that we could have communicated better and more compassionately. Please know it was never our intention to imply doubt about your situation — rather, we were surprised by the damage, as damage from animals is an extremely rare occurrence.

Anaerobic compost experience
Bought my hotcomposter bin last November. Didn’t really try and harvest until a month ago. I had made a schoolboy error of reading the temperature in Fahrenheit as Centigrade! Compost was anaerobic and very smelly.
Support in the form of Karen was excellent both on the phone and follow up emails. Basically had to remove all the compost & dry it until smell had gone and then reload with fresh compost, shredded paper and wood chip. Thank goodness for the good weather!
Bin is now happily composting again and definitely already up to 50C!

Wide range of parts available
Pleased to find the supplier offers a wide range of spare parts. The two items I wanted arrived safely, well packed.

Brilliant system
Brilliant system. So easy to use with quick results. Have started to retrieve the liquid feed already after 4weeks,
No smells and heats up quickly. I can’t recommend the HOTBIN enough.

Great product - compact and easy to set up and use
Great product (HOTBIN mini) that has transformed my treatment of kitchen waste and garden waste.
Just waiting for my first batch of compost to be ready and hoping that it will then start to transform my garden too.

Easier than expected!
Person I spoke to on the telephone was very helpful in answering my questions. Bin arrived swiftly and was easy to unpack and light to move. With instructions provided and information via YouTube (thank you Beanie Composter), I got my bin up and running in no time.
