Disappointing âbespokeâ shutters
We placed an order for bespoke shutters for our bay window with perfect shutters. We were informed it would take about 3 months for them to be manufactured and delivered, as we were informed no rush this wasnât an issue. During the 3 months we received one update on our shutters letting us know they had been completed and where in transit from the factory. Once the 3 months had passed and we hadnât heard anything I got in touch with perfect shutters and was told my installation had been booked in, nobody had contacted to arrange this with me or even let me know and I was away on holiday the date they had booked so had to reschedule. They arrived the following week to install the shutters, however after installing the 4 middle panels they discovered the 2 end panels didnât fit as the measurements had been taken incorrectly. They told me someone would come out to remeasure, I heard nothing for a week and had to chase this up. They then came out to remeasure and told me someone would arrange the pickup of the 2 panels to be taken to their workshop to be adjusted, again I heard nothing for a week and had to chase it up. Someone came and collected the panels and took them off to be adjusted and I was told someone will be in touch when theyâre ready to be re-installed, I heard nothing for a couple of weeks and had to chase it up. When they arrived to fit the panels one of them fitted however the other was still too big. At this point Iâd lost all confidence that my £1600 shutters were even going to be finished let alone look like the bespoke, high quality shutters we had expected. We have finally (after a lot of chasing up from our end) had the shutters fully installed. We had to ask the fitter to address a problem with fairly large gaps at either end as well as some holes visible from the outside of the house which we assume were supposed to be for screwing the frame in. The 2 end pieces are now noticeably more narrow than the other 4 panels, however we have decided it best just to accept this as a win. I did at one point state in an email that we believe some form of compensation would be fair given the stress, time and dissatisfaction with the service we have had, I was told that once the works have all been sorted and both parties are happy it would be discussed, I have heard nothing since. I thought about chasing up this discussion of compensation, but we werenât actually bothered about getting some money back, it was more about the gesture of admitting the service was substandard and wanting to have a customer leave happy so to speak. Having to chase up compensation therefore would make this gesture meaningless.

We are sorry that the overall experience has left you feeling that the communication and service were not what you expected. Having carefully reviewed the communications, we do feel that we kept you updated throughout your order journey, with several emails sent as your order progressed. We are always available by telephone or in our showroom should you require any additional information or updates. However, we acknowledge that we could have communicated more effectively during some parts of the remedial process, and we appreciate that this would have added to your frustration.
As your shutters were approaching arrival, we contacted you by text message in June to advise that the order was due to arrive and that a provisional installation date of the 17th had been placed in the diary. We did not receive a response to this message at the time. When we subsequently became aware that you were away, we were happy to rearrange the appointment accordingly.
Weâre pleased that the installation has now been completed, but we appreciate that this doesnât undo the inconvenience and frustration you experienced along the way, or the disappointment you have felt with aspects of the finished installation. This is something we have raised internally and would like to discuss with you further.
Regarding the goodwill gesture that had previously been discussed, we can see that your final appointment was completed towards the end of last week and, with the bank holiday and some staff absences this week, we were unfortunately unable to finalise this at the beginning of the week as we had intended. We appreciate that you were understandably keen to hear from us following the completion of the works.
As we had previously discussed, our acknowledgement of a goodwill gesture was intended to recognise the overall experience you had with your order, and this is something we have continued to take seriously. We have now contacted you directly regarding this and would like to discuss it with you personally so we can bring everything to a positive conclusion.
Thank you again for your patience throughout what we know has been a frustrating experience. Weâre genuinely sorry that we didnât get everything right with your order, but we do hope that, should you ever need us in the future, weâll have the opportunity to show you that we genuinely do care and that your experience with us matters.

I have now had every window in my house fitted with shutters. Firstly, I had my two front bay windows then after being so happy had them back to do the rest. The girls in the office are amazing and nothing is too much trouble. They keep you informed at every stage. Both sets of fitters were fantastic, friendly, polite and respectful of my home. Good quality shutters but poor customer service
So I'd imagine that like a lot of customers I shopped around quite a bit whilst looking for plantation shutters and pre-sales, I found Perfect Shutters to be very helpful. I popped into their branch in Altrincham to look at the shutters and had 2 visits from surveyors before finally placing my order back in February.
The shutters were fitted at the end of May and the installers were polite and friendly. However, after they left I discovered some issues. Firstly one shutter wasn't in line with the window and despite the fact that a surveyor visited my property twice, I couldn't fully open my bi-fold shutters as furniture got in the way.
A surveyor came over on the 8th June to look at the issues and he seemed confident that I could get bi-folds that worked with my existing frames and he said someone would be in touch. However, I had to chase several times and with regards to the bi-fold issue, I've never really got an answer.
On the 14th July the fitters came back to fix the wonky shutter but to this day nobody has come back with a resolution for the bi-fold doors that don't open fully. The only kind of response I had was that 'they are never meant to be open fully' which kind of defeats the purpose of having bi-fold shutters really.
It's a shame because the quality of the shutters is actually pretty good but the aftercare has been pretty woeful. I got a text on 28th July to say my technical issue is being looked at still but in my eyes this is all really poor service. Nobody really ever apologised for the wonky shutter and having paid a lot of money for shutters, I can't use two of them in the way that I wanted. The company were really helpful pre-sales but now I feel like because they've got the sale they're really not interested anymore.
I was going to originally award 1 star but the fitters and the helpful staff at the Altrincham branch meant I opted for 2 stars.
