The staff at Rui nautilus have always been kind courteous and professional. The staff on reception left us a bottle of champagne in our room today which was just what I needed to cheer me up . The hotel looks great but the reason myself and my husband go back is you get the whole package there , the location, the food , service but more than anything the staff who work there are a credit to the company! . We love visiting and would nt hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone! . Lisa

We booked the RIU Palace Riviera Maya five-star hotel in Mexico three weeks ago. During the booking process, they promised a free airport transfer to the hotel, and we were required to provide all the necessary information at that time.
To make sure everything was arranged, we called because we had not received any further communication. During the phone call, we were suddenly told that the transfer is no longer possible. This is unacceptable and very disappointing.
Having to arrange alternative transportation at the last minute in a country like Mexico is extremely difficult and can also feel unsafe. We trusted the arrangements that were promised to us when booking. For a five-star hotel, I expected a much higher level of service.
Stay in April 2026 at the Hotel RiuâŠ
Stay in April 2026 at the Hotel Riu Palace Tikida Taghazout.
During our stay: cockroach and ant infestation throughout the hotel including in our room at 2AM; replacement room with urine smell and dirty towels; hotel director Rafael who shouted at me, initially refused to speak English as 'RIU is a Spanish chain', and said cockroaches in coastal hotels are ânormalâ; and a staff member who physically grabbed my phone, forced Face ID to unlock it, and passed it through four people. Most of this has been recorded by Riu helpline directly, or is on camera. I have attached pictures of the staff doing this. The only thing that kept me from calling the police and pressing charges was the fact that I wanted to enjoy the last 24 hours in Morocco. What happened was a criminal offence punishable by jail time.
The only âcompensationâ offered was a refund for a night we werenât staying. No news from their customer service, and this has been three weeks.
This is a pattern. The hotel is aware of the infestation and has chosen to ignore it for years by managementâs own admission. The food is also deplorable. It was most days undercooked or overcooked and always cold. My stomach and that of my husband hurt for a week after coming back.
Avoid at all costs.

Es war das schrecklichste Hotel, das ich je gesehen habe. Wir hatten die Bewertungen gelesen und uns dennoch fÃŒr einen Aufenthalt entschieden. Das Hotel ist extrem alt. Seit mehr als 50 Jahren scheinen keinerlei Renovierungsarbeiten mehr stattgefunden zu haben. Die WÀnde sind rissig, der Aufzug wackelt und rÃŒttelt, die TÃŒren sind defekt. Die LÃŒftungsanlage funktioniert nicht ordnungsgemÀÃ. Nachts ist es sehr kalt; sowohl die Möbel als auch das Bett fÃŒhlen sich klamm an. Die Heizung funktioniert nicht. Ãberall herrscht ein alter, modriger Geruch. Wir baten um eine zusÀtzliche Decke, erhielten jedoch lediglich alte, feuchte Lumpen. Die Fenster lassen sich nicht richtig schlieÃen, sodass stÀndig der Wind hereinweht. Die Möbel sind von Insekten zerfressen, und im Badezimmer findet sich viel Rost. Es ist völlig rÀtselhaft, wer die positiven Bewertungen verfasst. Es ist schlichtweg herausgeworfenes Geld. Im Hotel befindet sich ein TUI-BÃŒro. Das bedeutet â oder vielmehr: Dies beweist â, dass die TUI-Mitarbeiter sehr wohl wissen, in welch desolatem Zustand sich das Hotel befindet und dass es fÃŒr eine Beherbergung von GÀsten eigentlich ungeeignet ist. Wir waren von TUI zutiefst enttÀuscht. Das einzig Positive war die ProfessionalitÀt des Personals.
Lots of communication before weâŠ
Riu Tropical Bay, 2 weeks. Lots of communication before we arrived, though app and emails directly to hotel. But didn't get what we asked for as in a quiet area, rooms next to each other and birthday package. So was put on the top floor which we asked not to have. Next day was put down a floor, apparently hotel was fully booked that first night and we were then placed in rooms next to each other but still in the noisy area. NO LIFTS which doesn't help a reduced mobility person or someone with a pram, especially being placed on the top floor. Placed in block 3 right next to the entertainment, drunkeness, shouting and banging doors every morning at around 2 - 4 am. Toilet overflowed had to wait 4 hours and 3 phone calls later. Water ran into the bedroom and we blocked with towels. Not a pleasant experience and obviously unable to use shower until it had been disinfectanted. Housekeeping for us was non existent at times, only beds made and floors cleaned at times, only twice done before 4pm, no towels were left, when politely requested one, she was very rude back and once came knocking at 9.30pm. There were some really lovely staff there, who went above and beyond. Also helps if you constantly tip them at each meal time, which we always do at the end of the holiday. Some preferred the Americans and would rush to have them in there seating area. Beach was nice, safe not deep, but no parasols, trees near the back were reserved before 7am and palm trees very small not giving much shade.
Would like to go back to Jamaica but probably not to a Riu Hotel after this. Very expensive, hoped for more, well even the basics just to be done. Trips out we thought were expensive which we didn't take into account.

La vue de la plupart des chambres est magnifique, les chambres sont incroyablement propres avec une décoration contemporaine et lâemplacement est juste parfait. Je ne comprends pas certains commentaires trÚs négatifs, de toute évidence trÚs exagérés. Certes lâhÃŽtel comprend 48 étages donc, en fonction du moment de la journée, il peut y avoir un peu dâattente pour les ascenseurs. Mais câest trÚs raisonnable car il y a plusieurs ascenseurs trÚs grands et vraiment trÚs rapides donc ce nâest pas un problÚme. Le petit bar à lâaccueil est vraiment trÚs agréable: décoration contemporaine, climatisé avec un choix de snaking et de boissons vraiment sympa. Personnellement, jâadore y pendre un cappuccino. Il y a du monde à la réception car câest un trÚs grand hÃŽtel mais aucune sensation de saturation. Au contraire, câest grand, câest haut, climatisé et parfumé, et il y a des espaces pour sâasseoir. Le service bagagerie est trÚs efficace et il travaille en réseau avec un service de chauffeur si vous avez besoin dâune voiture pour lâaéroport. La salle de bains dans la chambre est élégante et fonctionnelle. La porte vitrée est complÚtement opaque donc aucun problÚme dâintimité. En plus, elle donne sur un placard, dans le couloir dâaccÚs. Et sâil vous manque quoique ce soit, il suffit de le demander: dosettes de café, serviettes, couvertures ou autres. Vous le mentionnez sur lâapplication ( un code vous est donné à votre arrivée) et le personnel vous apporte trÚs rapidement ce dont vous avez besoin. à New York, cet hÃŽtel est un excellent rapport qualité prix.

I booked an ocean view elite club room and was given a room on the ground floor with o view of the ocean. Riu said since the room was classified as ocean view even though there was no view I wasnât entitled to anything no credit or money back. I stayed for a week my television ended breaking and I had to asked twice for maintenance to come fix it. If you book you might want to check that the room actually has a view

Daarnaast waren de kamers extreem gehorig en was het eten verrassend matig en eentonig, zeker ver onder het niveau dat wij van RIU Hotels & Resorts gewend zijn. De aangeboden compensatie van slechts 1000 punten (ongeveer â¬5-15) voelde ronduit respectloos. Absoluut geen aanrader.

Stayed at the RIU Palace Maldives. Stunning location, easy check in after short speedboat journey, attentive staff, great food and service.
The bar staff were friendly, remembered everybody by name as well as our preferred drink orders.
The chefs would greet us personally every day and inform us of any specials.
Go there if you want a chilled out break with incredible service.

Paradise island
Paradise island , Nassau Bahamas. Hotel is a lot smaller than most. Entertainment was not great. Spent more money on Taxiâs to go out as thereâs nothing happening onsite in the evenings.
On arrival we checked in online, waste of time because we had to do the whole process at the front desk because they had not received anything to inform them we had checked in already.
Now enter the room, mouldy musty damp smell, figured maybe room hadnât been used so give ac time to cool it down. Nope everything in the room gets damp! Clothes in closet all damp. Even our brand new passports in the safe curled up and were damp!
The bed was lumpy, uncomfortable and the extra pillows were terrible. House keeping was hit or miss , at the beginning of our stay our housekeeper was great, attention to detail , always left her a tip. Then shift change happened and so did the lack of care. Floors not swept, shower not cleaned, only bed made and trash removed. No towel replacements.
On the last full day of our stay we took a trip out of the hotel for the day. On return I noticed my make up bag had been moved, ok housekeeping has to move things to clean right?! Nope, she hadnât moved it to clean, there was traces of my make up all around the sink, but I hadnât used any make up for 3 days!
Then I noticed our used coffee cups had not been washed, or replaced with clean cups, they were just put back on the coffee tray upside down and dirty. There was sand still in the shower and towels not replaced.
I lifted the sheet's on the bed to get in that night and thought Iâd check the state of the mattress- Omg disgusting ð€® stained old and filthy!
The beach was ok, the ocean was stunning but the RIU needs to look at this resort and its practices! Iâve never stayed at a RIU that staff expect a tip for showing you to aa empty sun lounger! Then another tip for the umbrella thatâs broken! The vendors on the beach can be annoying, persistent and donât give up! One even got mad when we continued to say no thanks, he told us we were âf******B*****dsâ
Avoid âchippyâ on the beach.
Oh and donât expect the RIU beach staff to bring you drinks, the bar staff wonât allow them to bring drinks to customers on the beach because the bar staff lose tips! So, if you want a drink be prepared to go back and forth and get them yourself, up the sandy, wet slippery steps to the bar and back down to the beachâŠ.

Cockroach infestation, aggressive staff, and three weeks of silence
I stayed at RIU Taghazout in early May 2026. What followed was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had, made significantly worse by the hotel's and groupâs complete failure to respond to a formal complaint now three weeks old.
During our stay we encountered multiple cockroaches across the property, including one in our room at 2AM, forcing us to relocate in the middle of the night. The replacement room had not been cleaned â strong smell of urine, hair on the towels. The lift was out of service, so we carried heavy luggage ourselves.
The following morning, the hotel director Rafael refused to speak to us in English, raised his voice, and told us he had personal matters to attend to and did not want to hear about a cockroach complaint. All of this is on record as we had the customer helpline on the phone at the time.He stated the hotel had had this issue for years and considered it normal claiming there are cockroach trees everywhere in hot climate.
When I attempted to photograph the reception area to document who was on duty, a staff member grabbed my phone from my hands, forced my face to unlock it using Face ID, and passed it through four members of staff before returning it. I was genuinely concerned for my physical safety. I have pictures of these people on my phone now and would be happy to share with anyone who needs them.
The only resolution offered was a refund for the final night â a night we were not staying regardless.
We submitted a formal written complaint on 4 May. Three weeks later: no acknowledgment, no response, nothing.
There are dozens of similar reviews referencing cockroach infestations at this property. This is not an isolated incident. Avoid at all cost.

We verbleven met 6 personen op 3 kamers in RIU plaza Manhattan Times Square. Een fantastische ervaring. De locatie is perfect; misschien 100 meter van een metrostation en van Times Square. De bediening en service zijn top. De zeikers die hier en daar klagen over de omweg die ze moeten maken voor het ontbijt (eerst naar de lobby en daar in de lift naar de ontbijtzaal), snappen de opzet niet. Wij meldden ons elke morgen netjes aan dat we met 6 personen wilden ontbijten en als we uit de lift kwamen, wisten ze in de eetzaal dat we met zessen kwamen en stond er een tafel voor 6 klaar. Helemaal top geregeld!
Abysmal Customer Service
We stayed at ce in the Maldives and, based on our experience, it is certainly not a five-star hotel when it comes to customer service. The seaplane was cancelled on the day of departure after we had already paid $480 just two days earlier, and the way the refund has been handled since then has been disgraceful.
We were told to apply by email once we returned to the UK, and despite numerous emails and forms, it took **three months to finally receive our refund**. As of **18th May**, the money has now been paid, but only after a long, frustrating process.
To make matters worse, we were asked to go to my partnerâs bank to prove she has the account and to get the bank to produce a letter, which is an unreasonable demand for a refund that should have been straightforward. This is not the level of service you expect from a hotel that markets itself as luxury. Taking holidaymakersâ money easily but then stalling and making refunds extremely difficult is shocking.
Please do not reply to this review, as your customer service has been absolutely shocking. Potential customers should read this carefully and decide for themselves whether they want to risk paying extra to a resort that makes getting money back so difficult.

Few hotels can match Riu's excellent service and location
Few hotels can match the excellent, personal service we received at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya this past fortnight. Every staff member gave us genuine cheerful service throughout. The choice of food and drink was incredible in its Main Restuarant complemented by the five specialty restaurants, and the waiters could not do enough for you. Most of them had been working at the hotel for well over a decade, some two, which goes to prove how pleased they were to work for this organisation.
The hotel complex is pristine, with cleaners always on hand to ensure everything was spotless. Even the beautiful, palm covered beach had a team of men clearing up any seaweed that came ashore.
Our room was superb with a great views to the Courtyard gardens. It was a pleasure to come into what seemed a brand new suite after our morning walk/swim. Jessica did a great job cleaning morning and occasionally evenings, if required.
The Bar Service/Team was always around to take down your order with a smile. So, my wife and I are so looking forward to our next holiday there in January.

When our reservations moved from Hilton to Riu, we could not get ANY customer service to help us cancel our reservations. The RIU first number took us to a gym, and the second number was on a loop that asked us for english or spanish and could not get beyond that. They would not allow Hilton to cancel for us, and when I got the RIU general customer service, that person only gave me an email address (I had tried the direct hotel one earlier, only to get it returned) to send my request. DO NOT book with them unless you have no need to ever use customer service!
