Failed to open account and no correspondence

Like many other, I tried to open an account. They took all details on their clunky website (including NI numbers) before saying at the end of the application process there was an error. Tried to telephone them three times, automated system cut me off. Have emailed complaints department asking for all my details to be deleted and confirmed it has been done, but no response to date. Would suggest using other savings accounts where you can actually speak to someone!

I've been trying to open a fixed rate…

I've been trying to open a fixed rate issue 17 account for 2 days.Entered all my details in. Got to READ PRIVACY NOTICE. Ticked AGREE. Tapped on ACCEPTED. Then find out I can't proceed any further. Called customer services 4-5 times. Held on the phone for ages each time. Only to be told that they are busy, and to call back another time. Don't they want me to invest in their company?

no one answers the phone, no one answers messages sent via their contact form...get a standard auto response that they are 'very busy'

shame....I will go somewhere less busy that values customers

Waiting on the phone well over 0.5 hour…

Waiting on the phone well over 0.5 hour when trying to contact. I opened an account difficulties getting accont recognised. I have seen feedback not going to bother will go elsewhere

Have called twice

Have called twice. Call terminated by Melton both times. They are too busy to take calls. Cannot complete bank detais to open an account

Sort Code error

Just opened a fixed Rate Issue 17 account - naturally popular with interest at 4.8%.

They seem to be having communication problems for at least a year, and the 'systems upgrade' last autumn only seems to have made matters worse.

Can't get through this morning, so I think I'll ask my question here because it seems the best way to get a reply!

Confirmation of my new account came though with details to let me fund my account - including a 5 digit sort code.

5 digit sort codes do not exist - what should I use?

Update 27.05

Our teams are working hard to answer incoming calls and return messages left or sent to us via the various contact methods. Our contact centre team does not manage our Trustpilot account.

Cluncky experience on website - updated

Opening an account via the website was laborious to say the least, fustrating and painful in reality. Every step seemed to take an inordinate long time to register and progress, and responses expected are counter-intuitive. It would require a professional in the shoes of the customer to smooth out the process. To add to the pain, the server was grossly under-powered - just upgrade the hardware, it won't cost a lot!
Now I understand the issues with the website are teething problems due to a recent update. I send my best wishes to Melton for a 'speedy recovery' and every success with their hardware upgrade.

Useless application on line !

Useless application on line unable to get past address although it came up in initial search unable to find so I gave up and have gone elsewhere ,not sure if the this is a scam scam so could be lucky escape !

Gave up on application

Offered a good rate, but the application process is so painful in comparison to other banks. I've had the same address for 5 years, same current account for 30+ years, but the online application was unable to confirm my identity and they asked me to send ID documents by post (original passport, driving licence, no photocopies). No thanks, I'll just choose an easier online process.

Extremeley hard to apply ,their online…

Extremeley hard to apply ,their online system been down for a while have attempted to fill out their online form many times over last few days ,still not worked extremley frustrating ! they need to take a leaf out of atom,monzo etc where their application process is stress free

who designed this website

who designed this website? whoever they are needs to get a new job.

The most user unfriendly, archaic, slow, poorly designed interface I have ever had the misfortune to use.

Get a grip Melton. And don't send me one of those pointless, cut and paste 'we take all feedback seriously' answers

awful service - avoid

Like others navigating the online application process was far from straight forward and now when I try to log in sometimes I get sent a code - other times not - very mysterious and frustrating. But am now trying to get through to them on the phone - its ridiculous - like everyone else I have called probably in excess of 20 times to hear the same boring options and how my call will be answered soon!! Then after 2 minutes or so of inane music you get cut off. I have emailed asking for call backs too, to no avail. Terrible customer service. Avoid.

website application form hopeless

Just spent 2 hours attempting to open a savings account. Nightmare website. VERY SLOW and difficult to deal with. I'll try again.

Avoid Melton Building Society at all cost…

I had a very frustrating experience when trying to open a savings account with them. The process was plagued with problems right from the start. I couldn’t even get past the first step, which required verifying my phone number. Despite making multiple attempts over several days, I never received the verification code, no matter what browser I used, which network I was on, or which phone number I tried.

I tried to reach out to their customer service for assistance, however, my experience was equally disappointing. After waiting on hold for about five minutes, I was greeted with a generic message asking me to try again later, and then the call was abruptly disconnected. No matter how many times I called or what time of day I attempted, I was never able to get through to speak to a representative. Their customer support is non-existent.

Reading other negative reviews, it’s clear this has been a persistent issue for years and they obviously do not care about their customers, because if they did, this would not still be happening. And you can dismiss their responses to reviews as they do not reflect any real effort to address the underlying problems. It’s just a superficial attempt to save face.

Do yourself a favour and save yourself the stress, time, and frustration. Do not waste your energy on this bank. There are many other financial institutions that value their customers and provide real support when you need it. This bank’s incompetence and indifference are simply not worth the trouble.

Dinosaur online platform

Have attempted now on several occasions to open a fixed rate savings account online with yourselves sadly to no avail. As a potential new customer your platform is highly frustrating, archaic and not fit for purpose. I’ll be going elsewhere…….

Very poor - choose a competent Society to manage your money

My first contact with this society has been nothing short of dreadful. Giving them even one star feels overly generous. I’ve set up countless online accounts without any difficulty, but their online portal is astonishingly poor.

After several hours of perseverance, we eventually managed to create an account — but long before that point, we had already decided it would be unwise to trust these amateurs with our money. We only continued out of sheer curiosity and amusement.

There were far too many errors on their portal to list, but one particularly ridiculous example was a message saying they needed additional information and asking us to click “here”. The link took us to the Google search homepage. We closed it and carried on, purely for entertainment, for another couple of hours.

Eventually, we did manage to get everything set up and even accessed the portal once. Every attempt after that — around fifteen tries — failed.

Avoid this organisation and choose a bank with an online system that actually works, allows you to sign up in minutes, and reliably gives you access to your account.

I have managed to open a new fixed term…

I have managed to open a new fixed term account after trying for ages and repeatedly entering my details it is almost impossible to navigate their website. Now I’ve been trying to login for half an hour, I tried to enter a strong password suggested by my phone but kept getting the same message “password complexity doesn’t match” so I made up my own complex password and got the same message! So I’ve now given up, as I am unable to deposit any money into my new account, I will have to go to someone else to invest my wodge! I even tried to phone but nobody answered and quite honestly after reading the many negative reviews I’m glad That I’ve not invested.

Impossible to apply

I have tried to apply for one of the savings account, it is impossible. I tried using PC and mobile, at some point there there is a problem to continue. Either a message of the server being down or other "global rate limit exceed" and few other issues. I have given up, if they cannot handle the application process how can I trust them with my money.

Online application problems

Online application system did not recognise my building society sort code, despite it being a very well known household name, did not allow me to input manually the 6 digit sort code, or start a fresh application. Frustrated.
