They're scammers. We paid for full coverage insurance, had a scratch on our car, and reported it to the police to have proof. XL Insurance Company wouldn't accept it and kept our deposit. Don't choose them; there are many other companies that certainly don't scam people like they do, only trying to take money that isn't theirs! Furthermore, we've called them, and they ignore us and offer no help.

Accueil avec la grimace, ça commence bien (agence Dubrovnik Airport). Ma carte de crédit n'est pas prise en compte car c'est une carte de débit. OK. Nous proposons la carte de ma compagne, mais non, car les noms ne correspondent pas avec le nom sur le contrat. Il nous est demandé 100€, puis 150€ car la location dure 10 jours, pour ajouter un conducteur. Nous proposons que le contrat soit modifié au nom de ma compagne avec sa carte bleue. Non, ce n'est pas possible. Nous proposons de déposer la caution en cash, nouveau refus. De l'escroquerie pure et simple, pour faire du fric sur le dos des clients. Ah, oui , et si vous prenez le ferry il faut payer 75€ en plus...J'ai pris la location par Easy Jet qui ferait de vérifier la qualité des prestataires qu'ils choisissent de mettre en avant...

Dreadful customer service. Refused to accept Amex (fine) or any debit cards as a deposit. Proceeded to use a friend’s credit card, at which point they charged us an €88 fee to add him as a named driver as they claimed the card holder must be a named driver on the car. They didn’t notify us of this until we had signed the paperwork.
The car was not ready when we arrived, despite clearly stating our arrival time, so we had to wait an hour while the car was being cleaned. When the car arrived, the staff member had left it running with the key in the ignition - we carried on our journey. The next day when we went to get in the car, the key did not work to unlock the car and it had to be unlocked manually. Later in the week, the car did not recognise that the key was present and would not start. After getting in touch with XL, they told me to replace the battery. They would not compensate me for any journey to a supermarket by taxi (we were an hour and a half walk away from the supermarket, staying up a mountain). This still would not unlock the car automatically, but at least the car started.
On returning the car, we were told everything was fine and that there was nothing to pay. We then noticed a €40 payment taken a week later. Upon querying, we were told that there is a mandatory cleaning fee in the contract - which we had not been told about. Absolute charlatans. Steer well clear.

Would give 0 but can’t. Hidden charges large deposit taken when you get the car and then charged €40 euro to have it cleaned when we returned it. We were never told about this, I have never had to pay this and have hired cars all over the world.
Let see if I get all my deposit back !!!

Wat een waardeloos bedrijf. Chagerijnig mens achter de balie. Moest nog extra bijbetalen voor een verzekering terwijl ik al een verzekering had afgesloten. Toen naar de auto en toen kregen we een lupo ipv een polo. En toen ik er wat van zei annuleert zij alles en kon ik naar mijn geld fluiten. Ik heb het via Ryanair geboekt maar ook die willen geen geld terug geven. Zijn echt oplichters!!

Arrivé à l aéroport de Split en Croatie, impossible de faire l'emprunte à 1100euros, il a fallu mettre un deuxième conducteur plus rajouter une assurance (+170euros pour une semaine). Aucune solution du vendeur pour faire l'emprunte sur plusieurs carte ou en liquide. Le plein est fait à moitié, difficile de remettre le même niveau de carburant ...
Pour l'instant, un -40 euros sur mon compte sans savoir pourquoi ...
Je ne recommande pas cette compagnie

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Like previous reviews. Waited 30 minutes to get our two cars when we arrived. One had 21 scratch's or dint's on the other not much better. Only drove 17k in the vehicle which shows limited use. Was charged 40 euros for each vehicle to be cleaned. Cannot believed we was expected to clean car prior to returning or was told about this at pick up.

I give one star simply because I couldn't give zero star.
We went on a family holiday to Croatia there were 9 of us so we hired two cars, on the paperwork for the car I hired there was identified 18 scratches/dents, but I took more than 18 photos. When returning the car we waited over 45 minutes at the desk, but no body turned up to deal with us in spite of the lady in the next booth sending them a text which they did not answer.
When they eventually turned up and examined the car, they implied that a number of the scratches/dents were put there by me then charged 40€ to wash the car, the first time ever that I was charged to wash the car.
I would not recommend XLRent a Car to anyone not even my worst enemy.

Wish I had read the reviews on here first! Booked via easyJet (who have been great) this seemed too cheap, and clearly was. I informed them that I was on my way, just running a bit late at 20:08, my collection time was 20:00. When I get there I was greeted by a disinterested employee on his phone. so I joined the back of the queue, another couple behind me worked out that we were in the wrong queue and they jumped ahead. They had various issues, which resulted in queueing for about 40 minutes. Once I got to the queue (20:57) they informed me that I would now have to pay a 100 euro late collection fee. Oh I didn't need to pay that, but if I didnt I couldn't have the car.... after dealing with the agent for 10 minutes he said walk down to the car and someone will be there. Which they were, with the key. which had clearly just arrived back (again I had to pay 100 euros remember). The body panels were held on by screws, the clutch was barely a clutch anymore, and over all just a terrible car. On returning I was told to call 30 mins before arrival, which I did around 10 times. To no answer. Best bit was dropping the car off to get my 1000 euro deposit back

Do not book and use this company! We booked a car with them via Opodo company, paid and waited for two hours to be told they are not providing the promised car, offering unsuitable replacement and suggesting we travel to a distant town to have the promised vehicle later that day (sic!) When asking for our money back, the lady at the stand was utmost unprofessional and unhelpful (even closing the window in our face at one moment). When communicating with Opodo to get our money back, they used our phone to communicate with XL and after lengthy conversation made us to pay 65 euros for nothing just to get our money back in five (actually seven days) instead of waiting 30 days to have our complaint reviewed. It was a nightmare start of our holiday in Zadar, spare yourself of anything similar!

Do not use. We booked through a third party that we have used many times before with other car rental companies. We arrived at XL 3 hours after the agreed pickup time as our flight was delayed, only to be told abruptly that our car booking was cancelled. They just cancelled it without any email or phone call and tried to get us to rebook with the same car for more money, and used the reason that we were slightly late to cancel our booking without warning. We have the feeling it’s not the first time they have done this. The third party agency has promised to refund us luckily but I will never book with XL again.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - SCAMMERS! If i could rate less than 1 star, I would. Company failed to return a deposit of £750 after the car was returned on time, no damage and fully fueled. They have refused to reply to any of my emails and refuse to offer any help when I managed to get them on the phone.

They are scammers that rip you off. They try and force you to buy 200€ insurance and also charge you 20€ for a cleaning fee.

We got a flat tyre and they charged us 300€ and told us we would get an email from the insurance company with a reimbursement. This was 3 weeks ago and we are still waiting to get our insurance money back.

I also had to hound them to get our 1050€ deposit back, to which they didn’t reply to any of my emails, calls or text messages. We have had one text back and luckily, most of our deposit. But we have had no contact regarding deductions made from the deposit or insurance that we are still waiting on.

Serious lack of professionalism and to call their communication abysmal is an understatement. Save yourself the money and the headache and do not rent from here.

Do not use!! Have failed since 15th September to provide me with an invoice and return my £750+ deposit for the car. Took £20 out of my account for the "optional" car clean which apparently is compulsory

We got a rental car in a package deal with villa (Jet2). Reading the reviews here I was very concerned but really had no need to. Pick up from Split airport was painless although there was the usual additional insurance selling tactics but not too pushy. I opted to just go with the 20 euro wash which along with the hefty deposit is why they lose 1 star as usually you do not have to pay to have the car washed upon return - this was optional as you can wash it yourself but who does this while on holiday!?

XLRentacar cars are at the very far end of the car park so be prepared for a good 10 minute walk. We were assigned a Dacia Sandero Stepway which was nearly new (5k miles) and was in great condition. There were however a few very minor scratches and paint chips so I took video and pictures of these and reported back to reception who were fine and noted them on the damage sheet.

Returning the car was as simple as dropping it off where you pick it up and handing the keys over. There is no inspection at time of drop off by the staff so make sure you take before and after pics for your own protection! Staff (2 lads on pickup and a lady on drop off) were very polite, not rude at all.

There was an initial deposit of 1500 euros which is steep and showed on my credit card immediately. However this was fully refunded the day after dropping the car off.

Given the terrible reviews I've read here I was really apprehensive but in the end it was a relatively hassle free experience. Would use again without concern.

Stupid me; We where in a hurry and needed a rental car quickly because we suddenly had to come to Croatia because of femaly matters.
So any car would be ok.
I did NOT read the reviews in advance…
If l did, l would be a warned man…
And, yes, the car rent was ok; only 117 euro’s for 4 days, was decent.
Then… we arrived as sceduled; 22:30 hours. But!! I had to pay 100 euro extra for ‘being late’!!!
And an adition fee for car cleaning!!!
So l payed DUBBLE price!!!!

So, please, do NOT go to these Criminal company!! They belong in prison

This is probarbly the worst rental car experience ever. Considering that I have rented cars in Spain, Greece, Turkey and so on, this must be the worst rental car experience. First of all we had to pay 110 Euros to move the rental periode one day due to delay of our arrival. Than we had to pay 50 Euros because we where 1 hour late to pick up the car and another 20 Euros for cleaning the car after the return of the rental car, which is the first time in my life I have ever experienced. So before we could pick up the car, I had to spend 170 Euros extra. Than when i got the car, it was so full of marks and scratches that we had to take 40 photos of the car from all angles to secure us against further payments from them. The car was in so bad condition, that I would be emberrased to rent out something like this, and that upon charging us for a lot of extras. The funny thing was that they spend 40 min de deliver us the car, and put it in as a delay, which they cahrged us for. And for the record, which company use 40 min to deliver a pre rented car? And for those who really doubt, I have all the recits from the rental company. I will never rent from them again, even if they where half as cheap as next on the list. This was a really bad experience XL rent a car.

Dårlig kundeservice, skjulte kostnader, høyere enn de andre som vi spurte i etterkant på samme lufthavn. Var ikke særlig fin bil. Tungvint å hente å levere, ligger ikke ved de andre leiebil selskapene.
