Left in the lurch

Hundreds of jobs have been lost at a major Welsh employer as it announced it has entered administration. Almost 300 staff at Consumer Energy Solutions, which has sites in Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taf, have lost their jobs after City Energy Group, which owns the company, confirmed it was undergoing a restructure.

A notice posted on the Consumer Energy Solutions (CES) website on Friday announced that administrators had been appointed. It added that the energy company had "ceased trading with immediate effect". CES employs 295 people in Swansea and Treorchy and administrators are now responsible for supporting all workers through the job losses.

A member of staff who spoke to WalesOnline after the company told workers their jobs were at risk in the days before Christmas said people were "in turmoil" after being told the grim news on a Teams call. The employee, who did not want to be named, added: "I am just beside myself along with my colleagues."

The group previously said the proposed restructure and job losses were the result of the end of the UK Government-backed energy scheme ECO4 which it operated.

The initiative, which helped homeowners save on home energy upgrades, such as insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps, is due to come to an end this year.

The notice said: "Please note that James Saunders and Michael Lennon of KR8 Advisory Limited were appointed as joint administrators of Consumer Energy Solutions Limited on January 9, 2026, the company has ceased trading with immediate effect.

"The company is unable to complete any further work for customers. It should be noted that the administration of the company does not involve any other companies in the City Energy Group.

"The joint administrators will be contacting creditors and employees directly to confirm the next steps and how claims will be processed. You do not need to do anything further at this stage.

"As Consumer Energy Solutions has entered administration, we will be unable to carry out any remedial works or repairs, or to progress or resolve any existing complaints.

"If you have had an installation completed by Consumer Energy Solutions and are experiencing any issues that you believe require rectification, we refer you to the following insurance backed guarantee providers who will be able to advise."

A spokesperson for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero said: "The ECO and GBIS schemes were not delivering value for money.

"We are instead investing an additional £1.5 billion into our Warm Homes Plan, taking it to nearly £15 billion – the biggest ever public investment to upgrade homes and tackle fuel poverty."

Excellent service

A very good website offering a range of products, excellent pricing, and reasonable delivery costs.
I ordered a freezer chest on 4th Nov and it was delivered 7th Nov, with the delivery coming from Crewe Cheshire and it was with me here in west Wales by 1030am, two very nice and polite delivery guys, super helpful

Boots Terrace road Aberystwyth.
What a dire service provided by this store, I entered the store at 4.50pm to purchase cold/flu remedy and stood like a spare part for 15mins at the counter. No staff to be seen anywhere, The pharmacist was busy talking to some staff members in the dispensary area, I couldn't see the staff so he may well have been talking to himself, very similar to how the customers are treated.
There was a female member of staff not wearing the boots uniform who was having amazing enjoyment with a lady at the secure perfume cabinets, not a single acknowledgement of a customer requiring service, when I went in there was a gentleman waiting to be served at the tills nearest to the door.
After waiting 15 mins I decided enough of being totally ignored it was time to leave, as did another chap who had queued behind us.
on the way out, the chap at the tills was still waiting, again being ignored.
This store is a disgrace, they still adopt the now outdated covid barriers blocking isles.
Get a grip. If you want to work there then do so, if not LEAVE

STILL FAILING

I ordered gas using the calor website which was actually working properly for once, surprise surprise the delivery arrived within a week. Lovely.
I was £175 in credit anyway and had cancelled my direct debit to protect myself from ever increasing payments, despite being in credit and not ordering gas until now.
I am now waiting for the paper invoice to arrive so I can pay the outstanding balance, I do not trust the website to pay online.
Its been nearly a month since the delivery arrived, why is this simple task taking so long.
I have given up with the email system, I don't think there are any staff employed to answer customers enquiries, and forget the phone system, you would get a better response from the house wall

Trying to RIP ME OFF AGAIN

I have been a Calor customer for a few years now, I have received my yearly review on my account and find that they have decided to increase my direct debit from £42 to £62 per month, despite my account being in credit by over £100, I have not ordered any gas, they have no tech to monitor my usage, so how the hell do you work that out.
I called the Neath distribution centre only to find myself at number 157 in the queue, 55mins on hold I had only progressed to number 87, useless
I have sent Two complaints to which despite FIVE days passing between each they breach their own guidelines by NOT REPLYING. If the complaint requires longer than five days to resolve then according to there procedures I should be contacted to explain why. Again NO REPLY
Whilst this is ongoing Calor have basically shut the online service/account down, for, Wait for it.
A NEW ACCOUNT SYSTEM
This shut down is from 26th April to 9th may
What a way to deal with your customers.
I may as well talk to a brick wall.
My only defence is to close my direct debit, I'm in credit, I don't owe you anything, how else can I protect myself from being ripped off.

Update
Calor web site is still down, now 10 days over the date provided to conclude the updates.
I have cancelled my direct debit with this company as it appears they have no clue, and i would like to manage my account efficiently.
We will now be entering the switching process

What an excellent service from AO

What an excellent service from AO, ordered a tumble dryer, They support emergency workers so a discount with the blue light card, delivered promptly and free removal of the rather ancient other dryer.
Good links via an appp as to the delivery time, to the point you can see the van approaching. both members of staff were very professional and courteous

Plain simple and uncomplicated

Plain simple and uncomplicated, I have used this company for several years and had no issues with them at all, documentation is in plain language, payment dates and amounts are clearly illustrated within the documentation.
