JD Sports: Disrespectful, Unprofessional & In Breach of My Legal Rights
I have been a loyal JD Sports customer for years, but after the revolting experience I endured at the Croydon store, I will **NEVER set foot in another JD again.
Two weeks after purchase, I attempted to return an unworn item – original tags still attached, receipt provided. The assistant barely examined it before claiming it had been “worn”. When I pointed out the tags and condition, she kissed her teeth at me in front of other customers. She then called a manager (as she clearly wasn’t competent to make her own decision) , who mocked me and repeated the same baseless refusal – no proper inspection, no explanation, just contempt.
The employees’ behaviour was appallingly bad-mannered from start to finish. The assistant rolled her eyes, muttered under her breath, and treated me like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. The manager offered no apology, no professionalism – just a smirk and a shrug, as if humiliating a customer in a busy store is part of the job description. This wasn’t a one-off attitude; it was a culture of rudeness that JD clearly tolerates.
I left the store publicly humiliated and deeply upset.
I contacted JD Sports customer service, expecting a fair review. Instead, their “investigation” was clearly nothing more than a less than 5 minute call to the Croydon manager where they closed ranks.
They upheld the refusal – ignoring my statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. An item with tags, never worn, is not used. This isn’t policy; it’s a refusal to honour the law.
JD Sports has shown it will protect poor staff behaviour and lie to customers rather than admit a mistake. The disrespect and dismissive attitude I faced were unacceptable.
Avoid JD Sports. There are plenty of retailers that treat customers – and the law – with respect. I won’t be one of them again.
And no doubt some admin will reply below with the usual script: “We take this seriously… full investigation… sorry you feel this way…” Save it. I’ve already been through your “investigation” – a five-minute phone call to the same manager who laughed at me. It’s a load of rubbish, and everyone reading this knows it.
