Alaskan Adventure 12-day cruise was wonderful
We did the Alaskan Adventure 12-day cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We arrived in Juneau on August 26 and boarded the ship the next day after a couple of excursions along the way. We had the trip of a lifetime. The food was delicious; the crew were wonderful and so service oriented. The ports we visited were all amazing, and we enjoyed all of the included excursions. We looked forward to the daily enrichment by the American Ambassadors, the happy hours and the evening entertainment. Our Cruise Director, Kristen, kept everyone engaged, starting each morning with "on this date in history". This was our first cruise, but I am already looking into a New England cruise for the future. I have recommended American Cruise Lines to all my friends and family. It was such a wonderful experience.
This was our third ACL trip
This was our third ACL trip. Obviously, we returned because you fit the way we like to vacation. Friendly, casual, thoughtful. comfortable!
Great Lakes with ACL
We are writing this review for folks who are interested in a cruise with American Cruise Lines (ACL).
We participated in a two-week long Great Lakes cruise, travelling westward from Buffalo, NY to Milwaukee, WI, stopping at nine locations around Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. This cruise line is perfect for those travelers born before 1963; it is slow paced and accommodating.
We took part in both complimentary and paid on-shore excursions. We ate nearly every meal on the vessel and spent many an evening gathered with our newly made friends, socializing on the open-air top deck or in the entertainment lounge.
We have not traveled with this cruise company before. We feel that we are reasonably well-seasoned, having been onboard with Viking, Oceania, NCL, RCI, Holland America, and Disney. Yet, this was a completely new experience for us.
We have so much to say:
Our engagement with the ACL travel department was a pleasant experience. The pre-Cruise coordination through the ACL website was satisfying and well organized. Each timed step through the planning process resulted in a successful trip.
ACL takes the extra step of housing the registered passengers conveniently at a nearby hotel the day before the ship leaves port. This assures passengers are assembled and ready for an exciting adventure and allows the ship to embark as scheduled.
Getting on (and off) the ship is controlled via a crew-held scanning system as experienced travels will recognize as the industry standard.
The ship is a beauty; built in 2025 with six decks. You can find more details about the American Patriot online. It is modern, with state-of-the-art conveniences. The ship was clean at all times; nothing ever looked out of place or in need of repair. The (small boat) tender was fit and ready for service when needed.
Every crewmember we met was friendly and knowledgeable. They accommodated all of our few requests. They worked as a crew; that is to say each member helped the others to keep the service (whatever kind it was) flowing.
Our introduction to the Cruise Director was a pleasant experience. Her demeanor and skill in making passengers comfortable yet keeping to the shipâs varied schedule was impressive. Throughout the day, she made her presence known, through periodic announcements or personal appearances at the various venues within the ship.
The sit-down dining room meals on-board were well planned with restaurant quality ingredients. They used local food when possible. Every meal included vegetarian options; half-portions were available as well. Their professional chefs prepared and served beef, veal, chicken, crab, salmon, halibut, and pork. Plate presentation was noteworthy. The serving crew were mostly knowledgeable about the daily meals. When possible they were able to combine or substitute dishes, providing a satisfying meal. Service was timely; every plate came out at the appropriate temperature.
For those passengers looking for buffet-style dining, ACL provides a casual atmosphere on the top deck. However, it is fast food; hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, quesadillas, and the like. You order from the menu, take a number, and once the food is ready, you will be served. Casual dining with excellence!
Cocktail Hour appeared every day at 5:30PM, featuring âthe drink of the day,â coupled with very tasty appetizers, often prepared by the Sous Chef. This is in addition to the never-ending availability of drinks throughout the day â both top shelf alcohol and non-alcoholic.
As daylight faded to the west, shipboard entertainment comes alive. Afternoon and evening entertainment varied from parlor games, to magic shows, to Name That Tune, to Dixieland quartets, with the ubiquitous (Not So) Newlywed game; certainly no casinos, no overfilled hot tubs, no discos or âbest sexy kneesâ or âbiggest bellyâ contests here. The Resident Entertainer kept his audience engaged in each presentation or enthralled with each performance.
ACL made each port destination an adventure â also included. The Excursion Director made sure that information for each landing was readily available and in quantity. She made announcements in plenty of time for any passenger to make adjustments if necessary.
The variety of excursions offered included park and museum visits, historic sites, city highlight tours, brewery or wine extravaganzas, and even a visit to an ice cream parlor. The administrative flow for any of these visits was such a pleasure; there was no fumbling for admissions, tickets, or seating.
The excursions are varied. ACL uses local guides who know much about the area or city you are visiting. The excursions are varied. ACL uses local guides who know much about the area or city you are visiting.
There's more to say, but no space.
Lovely new ship
Lovely new ship, great service and informative speakers. Staterooms nice size and comfortable, food was very good.
Mt St Helenâs and More
As a whole, I thought the cruise was just great. If I had any recommendations or considerations, it would be
I thought the food was the weakest part of your cruise this time. Perhaps you have found this approach works for you. But I felt it lacking. So few choices and the quality was just not there.
I would have loved to know more about how the lock works âa heads up about some of the sites we saw from the ship â Mount Hood, for instance. Only by chance did I see it and I was the one who went into the backyard café and told everybody there. I think there were those who did not leave the ship â it wouldâve been nicer for them to know what they were saying along the way. When we took excursions, of course we learned a bit. Perhaps everyone went on excursions â I donât know.
Perhaps I missed hearing anything about it?
I thought the music during the cocktail hour downstairs was enjoyable the night Bill and Laura just quietlysang old favorites. Maybe thatâs my age â 85. On this special red, white and blue and hot white nights, the music made the party memorable. Just would like to have had a little mix on that.!
The staff was lovely, the ship was lovely,
Everything was top notch
Everything was top notch. Something that does need to be addressed is airborne pathogens. We spent All that money to get covid. Everyone was coughing and thinking it was because of over 100 outside and ac inside causing it. Ac was causing it alright it was circulating it. Maybe some kind of electrical arcing and iv filters. Maybe check for fevers before/during.
I don't know that would be your research. But anything to keep no just your passengers safe but your employees. Very disappointed but I don't want to not travel.
Fabulous cruise!
The staff, the food and the port itinerary for the Maine coastal cruise was excellent!
Quality
No kids. No up charges. No crowds or lines. Great food. Great staff. Quality.
The staff is wonderful
The staff is wonderful! They were very helpful : helping my handicapped sister. They were willing to help us so that she could do excursions & activities also. The meals were great & the wait staff was fabulous! The bus drivers were congenial & helpful. We had a wonderful trip and I will recommend American Cruise Lines.

The crew went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, thank you!
The crew was so helpful and friendly.
The crew was so helpful and friendly.
I would like to see more ease for those with mobility issues. A place in the dining room for walkers/ wheelchairs would be helpful, and more ramps without steps would make boarding easier.
The Best of the Best
Over the years, we have traveled extensively with American Cruise Lines. We just completed a wonderful week aboard the American Constitution in the Puget Sound. We are booked next Spring on the American Anthem. We have reserved the new Signature Suite for a cruise on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. We commend the excellent staff on every cruise.
crew and accommodations were wonderful
crew and accommodations were wonderful
dinning and food were great, only complaint was evening lobster meal and lobster bake the next day for lunch.....could have planned that a little better.
American Song
Our ship, American Song, was very clean, bright and easy to navigate. The staff from the room cleaners to the Captain were extremely friendly and always ready to make our stay comfortable. We loved Richard, Izzy, Meeks, Iverson, Kianna, CC, Robin and our favorite waitress, Moe!

American Cruise Line Needs to Pick up Their Game
For our 48th wedding anniversary we booked a cruise on the Lower Mississippi, going from New Orleans up to Memphis, TN. PROS: We enjoyed the InterContinental Hotel in New Orleans. Our state room was very nice; we did receive a complimentary upgrade-same size, one floor up due to our wedding anniversary when someone cancelled. We enjoyed the excursions for each city. We also enjoyed our bus drivers & local tour guides.
CONS: We were both disappointed that we never heard ANY âNEW ORLEANS JAZZ,â in New Orleans NOR on the American Serenade.
The cost was high for a 7-day cruise for 2, which would have been fine if we had enjoyed everything & felt safe. Prior to the trip, my husband noted that he has an ALLERGY to bell peppers. He was SERVED bell peppers 3 TIMES! We told our waiters every time. After 1st time we told Head Mgr for Restaurant. 2nd time we spoke to the Head Mgr for the Restaurant, & the Head Steward of the ship. They apologized profusely & guaranteed it wouldnât happen again. 3rd time he was served something with bell peppers, he was upset & disgusted.
The 4th floor lounge served alternative breakfasts & maybe lunches-canât remember. On the 3rd floor where guests could go for cocktails & HORS D'OEUVRES at 5:30 was used to delay ALL of the guests from going into dinner at the same time. They did not serve hors d'oeuvres-shrimp cocktail; tasty little meatballs; bacon-wrapped shrimp; etc. Nothing like this was ever served. We found charcuterie boards meats, cheeses or pretzels.
DINING ROOM appetizers were listed as salads or soups-never anything like better foods as shrimp, sea scallops etc. Dinner portions were on the slim side for any man I know. Dinner ribs were 3 bones with mashed potatoes like from a small ice cream scoop. The food was okay but not especially tasty. I believe the portions & seasoning were truly for âolderâ people who eat little. We were aware that we could request more but seriously.
The night before our our 48th wedding anniversary 6 hrs after dinner I got very sick with FOOD POISONING & spent hours in the bathroom, vomiting! Iâd had salmon for dinner. To me, this is utterly inexcusable on a cruise carrying this price cost!
ENTERTAINMENT. They brought in locals & from the cities we were visiting. I get it. They are helping the US. They werenât bad, but we donât personally care for Blue Grass, which they did have two nights in a-same people. At least 1 night someone of Vegas caliber?
Couldnât even stay for the entertainment the last night of the cruise. Got word that we werenât staying in Memphis & had to change ports to Tunica, MS because they JUST LEARNED of a race that would block streets preventing them from getting anyone to the airport on time. Were told all of our luggage had to be out in the hall before midnight, & we were all to DISEMBARK the ship by 6:30 am. Breakfast would be served at 5:30 in the 4th floor lounge & 6:00 am in the Dining Room.
Absurd! We had to leave the entertainment to prepare our luggage & get it into the hallway.
No way had they JUST LEARNED of a huge Race event. At least 2 people, the Head Steward & the Recreation Dir would have been frequently in touch with the Chamber of Commerce of Memphis, if theyâd been doing their jobs. A big race that would close streets & impact one of the townâs major tourism providers was very likely to have been planned at least 3 wks in advance!
When I made the reservations, I asked two questions. 1. Is there a safe in the room? 2. Will there be an opportunity to go to Church on Saturday evening or Sunday?
1. I was told no 3 times by different people. The fourth time I called in, I got a gentleman who informed me that yes, there was definitely a safe in each room, tho not built in, however pretty heavy, still not as secure.
2. I was told that there was a Chapel onboard. Ticks me off because they lied. We were not in where we could go to church on Saturday night or on Sunday morning. At the LEAST, there should be a Chapel AND a Priest, or Minister, on board for services. If you can bring entertainers on board, you can certainly bring a Priest or Minister on board!
American Cruise Line, you need to seriously look at these problems. Ignored food allergies & food poisoning can cause death. Also, you need to take a look at placing a priority on God & church services for you passengers who want to worship God.
