Une journée juste pour faire du bateau, on a fait trempette, 1h avec le déjeuner plus une demi-heure de visite en bas des falaises sur un percour de 300m où on a rien vu à part 2 nids d'oiseaux dans les rochers.
Pas de phoques, pas de dauphin pas de baleine.
Pas d araignée car elles sont sur l île.

The trip was a great success. The service was friendly and attentive. We saw dolphins, although we only got to stop for a short time at the viewing point. On the way back we saw beautiful scenery and heard interesting information.

The boat trip was cancelled due to bad weather. No problem. However we're struggling to get our refund. Still no luck and yet we get sent this email asking for a review

We come to Madeira most years, and always go on the Bonita de Madeira. The team are always very friendly and informative. Definately be back

We didn't get informed the boattrip to Desertas Islands was cancelled due to bad weather. Instead we got confirmation that we could board at 10:00 am. The woman at the loket told us something went wrong in de system. We got the choice, book Desertas later in the week or take the dolphin and whales tour for € 40,-- per person. The rest would be refunded. We chose the second option.

Indeed we got a refund, but it was € 20,-- short. So instead of 40 we paid € 50 per person voor the tour. I imediately mailed the organization and when I heard nothing again after 3 days and still as of this day I didn't hear anything.

I think this is poor management.

The dolphin en whales tour was o.k. allthough we only saw some dolphins from a distance. But I liked that the captain really thouht of the dolphins and did not interfer with nature.

Nice tour. Lucky to see whales and dolphins. Good to respect the animals maintaining distance and not staying too long. Very simpatic tour guide! She explained everything very well.

The cruise turned out to be a great pleasure, even if the whales changed their minds and did not appear. Several hours of relaxing lullaby on the waves.

I thoroughly enjoyed my boat tour of the Desertas Islands with Bonita da Madeira on 27 April 2025. This tour got me off the beaten path to a unique ecological environment that I appreciated as a retired environmental scientist. It was also neat that the group travelled to these islands via a wooden schooner (Margarita Sunset) from Madeira. It took about 2.5 hours to get from Funchal Harbor to the Desertas Islands. I was the only one who hung out on the bow of the boat on the way over. There were some white caps on the water and salt spray glancing over the boat, but it wasn’t bad. I was prepared with waterproof pants/jacket/boots.

Once we arrived at the islands, and the anchor was set, we were treated to a delicious lunch of baked chicken, rice pilaf, and multicolor pepper salad that the cook prepared. Afterwards, only four of us customers went by zodiac to nearshore to get a tour of the ranger station and interpretative trail. We had to exit the zodiac in knee-deep water, which was a bit tricky to do in bare feet over the stones in the water and along the beach until we could stop to put our shoes back on. Ricardo and Fabio, the young boat staff, accompanied us on the interpretative trail. Ricardo did a fantastic job leading us on the trail, describing the interpretative signs about the flora/fauna/geology/history of these islands, answering questions, reigning us in if we wandered off the trail, and even finding a small ground-nesting bird for us to view. His English was perfect, and his warmth and enthusiasm for these islands was a real asset. We returned to the boat via zodiac. A few people snorkeled near the boat until we left for the journey back to Madeira.

On the way back, a selection of music from the 1960’s and 1970’s (the soundtrack of my youth!) was played over the loudspeaker. Ricardo put together this eclectic set of music, including snippets of ABBA, The Rolling Stones, and Stevie Wonder set to a dance beat, along with full versions of songs by other artists. Of the 11 customers on the boat, few of them spoke English. Music, though, is a universal language. I was on the bow of the boat again on the return journey as was a young man from Hungary. Although he didn’t know much English, we both gave the thumbs-up sign to different songs, and I would call out the artists I knew. Ricardo’s music compilation gave us a way to connect, despite our language differences.

Although we didn’t see any of the rare monk seals on the Desertas Islands, it was a joy to be in their environment and to imagine them raising their pups in the caves along the water’s edge. The spring wildflowers were blooming, and several birds were flitting about. I highly recommend this trip, especially to those who want a dose of nature without the crowds.

Personnel sympathique, dommage que les commentaires, assez succins du reste, ne soit pas en français.
Balade longue pour une destination en fin de compte inintéressante car nous avons fait un simple aller-retour avec une station d'une demi-heure pour déjeuner à bord... repas très simple, une pomme en guise de dessert et pas de café.
Au retour il était prévu une collation avec boisson chaude que nous n'avons pas eu. Heureusement que quelques dauphins nous ont un peu distrait mais ils n' ont pas été engagés par l'opérateur 😂
Bref si vous avez 99 euros à perdre par personne... foncez !

Nice people and ok boat but not much information on the tour. Did not spot any animals at all. Nice coast line

It was an awesome experience, good information an plenty of relaxation.

Nice boat trip, but very limited. Not so great customer wise, very basic. Limited explanations about the ocean etc. If you are looking for a more informative trip where you can possibly see some animals, there must be better options (none from Funchal though).
