I'm reviewing as a musician - not a single booking in 12 + months

I'm reviewing as a musician. Been with this site over a year, not a single booking, not a sniff of any work. Part of this problem seems to be that it's about speed, not that you are suitable for any given event, it's how quick you can respond to emails and job posts. I've seen jobs on there go up and be closed within 20 minutes, no time to even get a good tailored cover letter together and apply.

2 jobs today and both closed inside of an hour of posting. I mean we are an excellent act but sadly not sitting there on the site or with phone in hand waiting for an email to drop. It seems some are and so what you actually have here is a select set of musicians who hoover up all the work because they get in quick, not because they are necessarily good, suitable or appropriate.

This is bad for everyone concerned, the booker has to shut down the post because they've been inundated in minutes with acts and those who are not waiting there on the email app and have a life, also lose out.

Next up is when we've managed to actually get in before the the post is closed by some stroke of luck... actually it's not that, it's that the booker hasn't managed the post properly and on every single one of these, without fail it's just been a digital black hole of no response or that the 'booker hasn't responded' after a month of waiting and potentially holding dates, and that's why we got in. The post wasn't closed because they haven't been proactive on the post they've made. Probably got 500 acts in their inbox and just walked away overwhelmed at that point.

I've had so much more luck just advertising on Facebook. I can speak to bookers, get a tailored set for them, I don't pay any fees and the ROI has been well over 1000%. So Encore is now a dead end for us, a great idea but the whole process needs to be reworked and it not be about the fastest responder, it needs a curated approach but I guess there's no money in that when you can just be a middle man, letting both parties fight it out and just take a cut for operating a web store front.

But none of that matters if the job is closed before you even get to that point. As I said, we are booking plenty of gigs now (we tried Encore to launch ourselves), we have great demo audio, professional videos, great reviews, we know our prices are good because of the bookings we are taking on, but if a customer is overwhelmed by acts and closes the post, they'll never know how good many other potential acts are because the acts are simply not quick enough to respond. That is my point and you proved it with that response. To not get a single job on literally 60 or so applications is just a waste of time at this point.

It's like the Bidvine and Bark sites where proactive and prolific members get all the work and it has no reflection on quality or suitability, it's only about speed of application, before the poster is inundated and just cannot process all of the applications.

I’m really sorry you’ve found Encore frustrating and that you haven’t secured a booking through the platform so far. I understand that navigating gig applications can feel like a long process, especially when you’re already busy with bookings elsewhere.

It definitely isn’t our aim for Encore to feel like it only rewards the fastest responder. Suitability, overall profile quality, reviews, videos, pricing, availability and communication all play a part in whether a customer chooses to book.

New jobs on Encore are matched to musicians based on the musicianship and location tags on their profiles, to ensure the most relevant acts are always notified of new enquiries. That said, Encore is a continually growing platform, and there are many new and experienced musicians competing, sometimes for the same opportunities, especially in areas with a higher density of registered acts.

We provide tools like the Encore app, reusable cover note templates, live availability, and job alert filters to help musicians quickly submit job applications without starting from scratch every time and to filter out unsuitable opportunities.

Most enquiries allow up to 15 applications to prevent customers from being overwhelmed with too many options. Customers can also request extra quotes from specific acts, or reopen their enquiry to receive more quotes if they’d like to keep looking. However, I do appreciate that this can make jobs feel very competitive and sometimes move more quickly than you’d like.

Encore does work a little differently from other platforms, and we’d love the chance to help you get more out of it. We’re a very small team of musicians who genuinely care about helping our fellow musicians succeed, and we support thousands of acts like you every year in securing bookings.

Encore is also completely free to join and use. We don’t charge any signup or subscription fees or ask you to pay to contact a new lead. As musicians ourselves, we believe that we should only make money when we’ve helped a musician secure a well-paid booking. This is why we only ever charge a service fee when you’ve secured a booking through us, and ensure that, for every booking secured via Encore, you’ll always receive the fee you quoted as your desired net earnings.

We’re always striving to do more to help musicians like you get the most out of the Encore platform. Giovanni Gagliano was a perfect singer just what I was looking for..
Hes got an amazing voice, very friendly and happy to sing any requests.
We had a 60th birthday party for my husband and literally every one said what a great day and commented on Giovannis singing they were all very impressed.
I certainly recommend him.

Musician Booking

Absurd deposit rules when you don't know if a musician can deliver.
I tried booking a musician for an event and we need to talk with him first.
The system or the musician, not sure which, wont allow this, which is absurd. Would you book a professional carte blanche without discussing what you want first if it was not simple? No, nor would I. Protecting the musician/platform is fine but not at the expense of a proper dialogue first.

Do not recommend

Do not recommend. They take 30% upfront and completely refuse to refund the deposit if you need to cancel and make out theyre doing you a favour by not requesting the rest. Lost £420 with nothing to show for it despite giving them 5 months notice.
Do not book unless you are 100% sure you will go ahead. I didnt want to cancel but can't plan changes in circumstances.

Per our cancellation policy, deposits are non refundable. Non refundable deposits are in place to secure an agreement between yourself and the musicians, whilst also accounting for any loss of work for the musicians and the decreasing probability of the musicians being able to find alternative work at short notice if the contract is cancelled.

Absolutely amazing...even learned one of my favourite songs from The Choirboys for me!

Pushy cold calling

Signed up and sent off a few requests for quotes. While waiting for them to come in I received two unsolicited calls from the Encore sales department pushing me to make a decision. Put me right off using them - cold calling without permission is not ok. I instead contacted a musician directly

Encore Music - No Show so No Music!

I booked and paid in advance for Mac the Sax to play at my daughter’s 40th Birthday and Engagement party on 28th June 2025.
We invited 60 people

Our daughter was visiting from Australia to introduce her new Fiancée to friends & family. Everyone was excited.

NO MUSICIAN ARRIVED

No explanation or substitute - so NO MUSIC!

So very sad and disappointing.

If there had been some communication with us regarding a no show maybe we could have found a replacement

BEWARE if you are thinking of booking with ENCORE MUSIC

I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else as our party was spoilt and there was a very disappointed Birthday girl & friends.

On the rare occasion a musician needs to cancel a booking, our team is on hand to help source a replacement. However, we were not made aware of this cancellation by the musician prior to the booking so we were unfortunately unable to help find a replacement on this occasion.

Do Not Book Cam Nicholson

In 2020/21, we booked Cam Nicholson to perform at a wedding in the UK. We signed a formal contract and paid the agreed fee. As per the terms of the contract, cancellations required a minimum of 6 weeks’ notice. We gave eight months.

Our reason for cancelling was both understandable and unavoidable: the global COVID-19 pandemic and, shortly after, a cancer diagnosis in our family. Despite handling this respectfully and well in advance, we were met with radio silence. Our emails were ignored, follow-ups were disregarded, and worst of all no refund was ever issued.

We are still owed £652.16 or 1200.37 AUD (an amount clearly stated in Cam’s own contract.) Not only was the agreement breached, but the complete lack of communication and accountability since has been appalling.

This wasn’t just a gig cancellation; this was someone taking money for a service they knew they weren’t going to deliver, and then vanishing.

At best, this is wildly unprofessional. At worst, it’s outright unethical. I wouldn’t recommend booking Cam Nicholson for anything. This is how he handles commitments and clients and especially during deeply difficult circumstances...it speaks volumes.

So if anyone who has decided to employ him can take that money out of his pay cheque and give it back to us, that would be massively appreciated.

All Encore bookings are processed through our platform, using our own secure payment system. They are governed by our own terms and conditions, not by individual musicians' contracts as described in your review. As a UK-based company, all contracts and transactions are conducted in GBP, and we do not currently operate in Australia.

To make a booking on Encore, you would have submitted an enquiry through our platform, communicated with the musician via your dedicated Encore enquiry page (with support from our Bookings team), and completed payment securely via the Encore platform, in line with our terms.

Any disputes or cancellations would have been handled by our customer service team, who look after every confirmed booking and provide comprehensive support in the event of a cancellation or dispute, including facilitating refunds where appropriate.

We can confirm that there is no record of a booking being made on Encore involving a musician named Cam Nicholson.

It’s possible you discovered the musician through one of our international directory pages? If so, you will have noticed that they link directly to the musicians’ own websites, and do not lead to creating an Encore enquiry or booking.

To clarify, these international directory pages are designed purely for discovery and information purposes, and they are separate from the actual Encore platform. They simply provide a convenient way to explore options in your area, functioning as a curated directory of links to high-quality musicians' own websites.

Any communication, enquiries or bookings made through those external links take place directly with the musician, outside of the Encore platform, and are not covered by our booking process or protections.
