Not enough chargers

I found a charger. That’s it. I live locally and don’t have a charger at home. Only two in Wincanton Somerset and now the KFC is closed (it had 4 chargers) and if you are lucky enough to get a spot. Win win. Now I have a RFID card it’s a breeze. Wish it was faster but hey ho.

I was really low and swung into my


I was really low and swung into my normal charger at Poulton only to find that it has a fault. It was saying still in use from previous day. I rang helpline and bloke I spoke to was really helpful. He told me maintenance were aware but unlikely to show up on a Sunday. He restarted it and told me it still showing as in use but debit card may be available instead of app. It worked :-) I was relieved as I could only use that one as I need chademo

Unreliable Charging and Poor Support: My Frustrating Experience with Instavolt

Instavolt is the worst company for charging electric cars because they are unreliable. So if you’re low on battery and need to use a charging station, don’t choose Instavolt, go for another one to avoid problems. I’m an Uber driver, and I recharge my car on the street one or two times a day, and Instavolt has let me down countless times. I’ve reported the issues, but nothing has been done, and no one has contacted me. I’ve had serious problems. The latest one happened three weeks ago. I called support and asked for a complimentary charge, but they didn’t do anything. I had to leave and head to another location, and my car’s battery died on the way. I had to call for a tow, lost hours of work, and this all happened in the middle of the night, around midnight. I didn’t get home until 6 a.m. because the tow took three hours to arrive. And all these issues have happened in the rain, in the cold, and it’s always a long, frustrating process. Now, you might ask, why do I still use Instavolt? I only use it because of a promotion in the app that makes charging cheaper, so I take the risk. But often, cheap ends up being expensive because the charging just doesn’t work. And when I’ve contacted their support, they’ve tried to blame my car. How can it be my car when I charge it every day without issues with other providers? It’s clearly Instavolt’s machines that don’t work properly. So, I want to leave this review to warn you and tell you not to trust this company, especially if your battery is low. I’m also attaching a video so you can see what happened to me.

3 failed charges @ 3 trees

I tried to use three trees EV chargers, between Marlborough and Swindon. I tried 3 of the 4 ChadeMo chargers several times.
Every time that it actually connected and got started, it automatically STOPPED.
Why are these so unreliable? Lovely location but they need to work! So frustrating. Yes I tried your app, a credit card on my phone.
The screen showed a £nil charge to AMEX - which I do not use!!??

20 minutes in to charging then it


20 minutes in to charging then it stopped not able to disconnect from car as touch screen option wasn't available on the screen so had to call customer service, first time using instavolt, not impressed call handler got me on my way at least by disconnecting the charger, Necton 2 point ..update charger malfunction at the £8.40 price point no more charge received just got charged £15. So scamming customers also. What a bucket of manure

Thank you for letting us know about the issue you experienced at our Necton charger, we apologise for the inconvenience caused.  

Our Network Performance team have investigated this and have identified an issue with the charger. Once a resolution for the issue has been identified, an engineer will be dispatched to site to carry out a repair or a fix will be implemented remotely if possible.

When you initiate a charge via a card, a pre-authorisation fee of £15.00 or £45.00 (depending on the charger model) will be reserved on your card. This will be taken each time you tap your card to try to start a charge and is intended to validate the payment card and ensure that sufficient funds exist to complete a transaction. Depending on who you bank with you may see these as pending transactions or they will appear to have been taken from your account. 

If the charge was successful, the pre-authorisation amount will be cancelled and replaced with the actual amount you were charged for the electricity received. If your charge was unsuccessful, the amount will be returned automatically. All pre-authorisation amounts are released automatically by InstaVolt; depending on who you bank with, it may take 5-10 working days (or sooner) to reflect this.

If you use our chargers regularly and would like to work around the pre-authorisation fees, you could download our app and use it to start a charging session. As your payment card is already authenticated on the app, no pre-authorisation fees get taken when you charge via this method.

Very poor service

1. Provide a roof as in all petrol/diesel service stations. We are always getting wet/cold.
2. Create an incentive to have an electric vehicle, ie less cost than petrol/fuel. It is currently far too expensive.
3. Provide a receipt so we know what we have spent.
4. Make it user friendly, by providing human help!
5. The screens don’t work when wet.

Winchester - Its says up to 160Kwh, but dont expect that !

I went to the Winchester Superhub - there were only a handful of people on the charging station on a Saturday lunchtime. The Website says up to 160Kwh, but the Charger only delivered at 70Kwh which was very annoying. I have an EV6 CCS car capable of faster charging and did not expect that. My Battery was not full so slowing the charge. A very disappointing experience.

The reduced rate is available automatically during Off-Peak hours when using the InstaVolt app, so we’d really appreciate it if you could confirm whether the session was started through the app or contactless.

Slow and unreliable

Used one yesterday. Very slow. Tried 2 today, neither worked. 3rd one connected but still super slow for a rapid that costs over the odds in comparison to some 7kW and 22kW chargers.

Great Charging at Barnstable Instavolt.

Great Charging Experience at Barnstable Instavolt

Stopped at the Instavolt charger in Barnstable and had an excellent experience from start to finish. The chargers were easy to find, clearly sign-posted, and the whole area felt clean and well maintained. Plugging in was quick and straightforward, with the charger starting up almost instantly—no fussing with the app it worked instantly to, also there is a payment screen if you don't use the app.

The charging speed was reliably fast, and I was back on the road much sooner than expected. What really stood out was how simple and stress-free the whole process was. It’s exactly what you want from a public charging stop: quick, convenient, and dependable.

Highly recommended for anyone passing through Barnstable and needing a top-up.
