As a ev owner who has to rely solely on public charges have found InstaVolt to be the best option locally. So easy to use the chargers - very simple clear instructions. I have taken full advantage of the price drop and am particularly happy that this now starts at an earlier time. I was finding myself alone in a car park late at night once the nearby food outlets closed. One outlet is now open 24 hours and combined with the earlier price drop this has made the experience not so daunting. App is very easy to use. Only issue is I wish I could add a payment card to the app rather than having to put the details in every time but itâs a small inconvenience.

The £15 amounts you mentioned are pre-authorisation fees, which are temporarily held by your bank each time you tap your card to start a charge. These arenât additional charges and will automatically be released within 5â10 working days, depending on your bank.
The £37 would be for the actual cost of the electricity you used during your successful charging session.

When you initiate a charge via a card, a pre-authorisation fee of £15.00 or £45.00 (depending on the charger model) will be reserved on your card. This will be taken each time you tap your card to try to start a charge and is intended to validate the payment card and ensure that sufficient funds exist to complete a transaction. Depending on who you bank with you may see these as pending transactions or they will appear to have been taken from your account.â¯
If the charge was successful, the pre-authorisation amount will be cancelled and replaced with the actual amount you were charged for the electricity received. If your charge was unsuccessful, the amount will be returned automatically. All pre-authorisation amounts are released automatically by InstaVolt; depending on who you bank with, it may take 5-10 working days (or sooner) to reflect this.
However, if you use our chargers regularly and would like to work around the pre-authorisation fees, you could download our app and use it to start a charging session. As your payment card is already authenticated on the app, no pre-authorisation fees get taken when you charge via this method.
