I always wanted to learn Chinese since I have arrived in China. Before, I was in country side and I couldn't have face to face class so I had to learn by myself. I have reached a plateau and thanks to Silk Mandarin I have been able to better understand grammar while getting new vocabulary, starting my HSK 4 classes now !

I choose Silk Mandarin because a friend of mine was learning with them and became so much fluent in Chinese. I was and am still jealous of his chinese level.

I believe the interactions with th teacher is the most but not least apprciated factor for me. Sometimes I found the methodology hard but I like to be challenged.

I've really enjoyed the one on one experience of working and learning with Catherine from Silk Mandarin. She is always so positive genuinely cares about how I am doing. There are many learning tools including your books, videos and powerpoints and lessons are really interactive.

I really liked my teacher Christana. How she approached the subject professionally and was patient with me. I also really liked the extra curricular activities I was able to take online in addition to the private lessons.

My experience at Silk Mandarin has been great. My 1 on 1 classes have been well-paced and useful. My teacher always expands on grammar and phrases from the text to give context and depth to the lessons. I also feel like I can always take my time to practice speaking, even if it gets off topic, without feeling like it is disrupting the planned lesson. My only qualm was that I couldn’t find a group class to join, but this was more an issue with scheduling with other students.

I found out about Silk Mandarin from a colleague who had taken classes with them and was really satisfied. I decided to sign up for the beginner level and do not regret it. I had tried to learn Chinese on my own, but could never find a good system to follow, and without support, I always ended up interrupting my studies. Ever since I started taking classes with Silk Mandarin, I have felt that I am finally making progress in my study of the Chinese language.

Everyone at Silk Mandarin is extremely friendly and helpful. There are many different course options - group classes or individual lessons, so everyone can find a format that works best with their schedule and learning style. I have really enjoyed the individual lessons because I can plan them around my free time, and we can go at a pace that works for me: sometimes faster, sometimes slower, depending on my understanding of the material we are studying. The teachers are very friendly, encouraging, and knowledgeable, presenting the information very clearly. They are also always happy to answer any questions. There is a very helpful online platform where one can get access to all audio files, characters, and grammar information.

Silk Mandarin is a great place to learn Chinese. I can only highly recommend them.

I am studying with Silk for one year now. I am happy and satisfied with the learning experience. The teachers have a professional background and adapt the learning techniques according to the strength of the student. I have a 1:1 class, but there are different classes available.
Silk is also organizing activities and events. This is always fun and a good way to get in contact with new people.
I will continue to study with Silk.

I have been studying Chinese with Silk Mandarin for the past couple of years, and I can honestly say that no other language school teaches Chinese with an emphasis on quality, attention to detail, and Chinese culture the way that Silk Mandarin does. I have tried a couple of other language schools to see if I could take classes at a cheaper rate. The first time, I was forced to ask for a refund after a month, because the quality of instruction was so underwhelming compared to the excellent language instruction I received from my wonderful teacher, Yanqin laoshi. This other school merely focused on teaching as many vocabulary words as possible and completely ignored grammar and other important aspects of learning a language, such as culture, and everyday use of language by ordinary Chinese. The second time I looked for slightly cheaper classes, the teacher was always on her phone during the test trial lesson. So, I didn’t bother to make further inquiries into their language learning packages.

At Silk Mandarin, Yanqin laoshi and I don’t just focus on learning new vocabulary words, but also on important grammar structures, common phrases, sayings and slang that everyday Chinese would typically use, pronunciation, important techniques to accelerate my language learning, such as Silk Mandarin’s “slow motion technique,” and Yanqin laoshi also teaches me about Chinese culture to better contextualize certain words and characters, so that I can better remember them in addition to learning about Chinese culture. I find this very valuable, because language and culture are deeply intertwined. Furthermore, everyone, including Sylvia, a customer care representative/manager for Silk Mandarin is very supportive and has my best interest at heart with regards to accelerating my language learning.

As for my teacher Yanqin laoshi, I feel very blessed and fortunate to have Yanqin laoshi as a teacher. She is one of the kindest most empathetic people I have ever known. When I first took classes with Silk Mandarin, I was working one of my first jobs out of college in Shanghai for an education consulting company. One of my managers delegated a lot of work to me at the last minute right before the holidays, which stressed me out greatly for a period of 3 months. Sometimes, I would come to class crying in tears. I would imagine its pretty difficult to do your job as a teacher when a student is always crying in your class. Haha. However, Yanqin laoshi was always so kind and patient and allowed me to talk about my feelings about work with her using Chinese. So, I had a therapist and a teacher in one. Good bang for my buck! Haha. This way, I was still able to learn Chinese and make good use of our time together, despite being in tears. Also, one time I told Yanqin laoshi that I hadn’t seen my family in like two years because of the strict lockdowns and would probably be spending the Chinese Autumn Festival alone and she was so kind to send me a huge box of moon cakes! I was so pleasantly surprised and touched by this kind, heartwarming gesture. Also, recently, I was really upset about not being able to purchase medicine for my facial acne during the lockdowns here in Beijing, and Yanqin laoshi helped me successfully purchase the medicine after one of our classes. Yanqin isn’t just an excellent and hardworking, skilled teacher, but she has also become my good friend. ~ ~

As for Yanqin’s teaching skill, I have yet to have a Chinese teacher as skilled in teaching as Yanqin. In fact, Yanqin is a far better teacher than the vast majority of professors I had in college. I gain so much knowledge about the Chinese language from every single class I take with Yanqin. She is incredibly passionate and hardworking about teaching Chinese and has even told me that she loves her job and plans to teach Chinese to students eager to learn the language for the rest of her life. Of course, she is young and doesn’t know what the universe has in store for her with regards to her teaching career and life. ~ Yanqin laoshi spends extra time outside of her teaching hours developing elaborate and comprehensive exercise sheets and learning aids to help students understand important grammar structures and words. Another thing I really appreciate about Yanqin laoshi is that she really wants students to “understand” Chinese and not just memorize a bunch of grammar rules and vocabulary words. So, she typically goes into great detail to explain certain words and grammar structures that are more profound to Chinese language than others. She is somehow able to do this so efficiently, as during every class we have together, we are still able to get through a lot of material. I really love and appreciate Yanqin laoshi as my teacher and wish nothing but good things for her. I hope this review helps. ~ ~

Silk Mandarin is the only school I have had the pleasure to learn chinese at and actually experience a systematic and enjoyable learning environment. The lessons are clearly stuctured and the teachers are not just simply teaching and looking at the clock, they are proactive and give real life practical situational learning. They keep you accountable for improvement and confident to use Chinese in the real world. Highly recommended.

I´ve realized I should learn Mandarin after I decided to do business with Chinese people. I had no choice but to study online, so I started looking for a Chinese language school. Sooner I came across Silk Mandarin.
There I found a highly qualified team and unique teaching method. Its business development team was effective at organizing the class schedule due to my time zone difference. Teachers go an extra mile providing online tools to practice and additional materials to help me with characters and listening. In a brief time, I was already feeling comfortable with the new language.

For a person like me, who doesn't have much free time, this course is perfect. It's once a week but lasts for 90minutes. A lots of material is covered in just one class and then it's self study that reinforces the learning. The videos on the teaching platform are very helpful and well designed in terms of duration and interactive content. The classes are fun and engaging and filled with interesting activities. I have nothing but great things to say about Silk Mandarin Training Institute. Keep up the good work!

I really liked the flexibility of this course. It worked well with busy scheduling, and the expectations were clear and upfront. One draw back was that if your time difference was as mine, you'd have to have class at an awkward hour However, It was still compensated by very active teachers. I thought the school text books are very realistic and expressive. I thought the class notes that followed each chapter were very well detailed and the book supported the chapters very well too. I really enjoyed taking your course. Even though this is not the first online Chinese language course I am taking, it is by far the most useful one I have had so far.. Thank you Hannah 老师!!

At first, l thought Chinese was a difficult language to learn. But with the help of my teacher Yanqin l can proudly say l have learnt a lot within a short period of time. She makes sure we all understand everything including the history behind Chinese characters.

Excellent value! I signed up for classes with Silk Mandarin a couple of months before moving to China. I already knew a little bit of Chinese back then, but not enough to start an HSK2 course. Instead of making me start over, Silk Mandarin arranged for a series of one-on-one remote lessons for me to catch up, and I am very happy with the results. Teacher Hannah made sure that we made good use of every single minute in our 1.5h sessions, and my speaking ability improved significantly after just a few meetings. The learning material and homework assignments were very useful too. Now I'm looking forward to my HSK2 class with Silk Mandarin!

Silk Mandarin in Shanghai is an excellent school for learning Chinese. From the first day I stepped in, the management team and teachers have been very professional in helping me choose the right level where to start my classes in. The school provides a variety of learning possibilities from offline/online group classes to offline/online private classes. The group classes are kept small (2-4 students) which is perfect for absorbing all the learning material and giving the opportunity for each student to practice reading and speaking. The private classes can be customized both in content and schedule to match the time availability and the learning development of the student. The teachers are very friendly and are most of the time available for quick support even outside of the class through messaging apps. This is very helpful if you have any questions when reviewing the lessons.

Furthermore, the school organizes many events for socializing with teachers and students from other groups.

All in all, I can say that my Chinese has improved a lot (HSK1 to HSK3) since joining Silk Mandarin, thanks to the applied learning methodology and the friendly environment.

I began learning with Silk Mandarin in July of 2022. I had been living and working in China for around 5 years, but had just been using apps to self study. After reaching a level slightly above HSK3, I found it very difficult to improve with self-study.

Taking the HSK4 course with my teacher, Jessica, I found that my reading, speaking, and listening abilities all improved quickly. Jessica was able to quickly identify my language level and then target learning needs within my zone of proximity to challenge me in ways that would push me to learn, while simultaiously maintaining my engagement and boosting my confidence.

My learning experience was done virtually, but I found the application and learning materials quite useful. Silk Mandarin provided me with a course textbook, workbook, and vocabulary flashcards. The learning app we used during class, Classin, never had any problems, was very user friendly, and the teacher was quite efficient in her abilities to use the technology. What's more, the school produces daily social media posts, as well as host many group events, so even though my courses were online, it was easy to feel as though I was part of the community.

Cannot overstate how happy I've been with my experience!

I just completed 100 online classes with Teacher Christina and had an amazing experience. Each class was both very entertaining and also covered exactly the knowledge I wanted to learn. I was able to see real progress in both my spoken and written Chinese skills and was pushed out of my comfort zone in a way that still allowed me to succeed. I definitely recommend this course, school and teacher to anyone who wants to improve their Chinese!
