I received a professional service. They were very helpful and friendly and this made my experience using this company a pleasant one. I highly recommend this company and thank you.

SJL was very quick to answer the customer, their staffs were very diligent, respectful, good listener and quick response to the phone calls.

Update a year on. Our self build insurance with SJL was due to expire in Feb 2023 so I contacted them in Dec 2022 to explain that we would need another year on our self build, due to unforeseen delays with Covid, Brexit, Ukraine war etc. I chased every two weeks with nothing but promises but no follow through. You will see from my original review last year, this was not a surprise. The insurance lapsed but still no quote. They then came back 2 weeks after the insurance had expired to say that they could cover another year... but the excess would rise from £250 to £10,000 !!! and they would back date the insurance to the renewal date (Whats the point of that other than getting money for nothing) When I challenged the excess I was told that the underwriters have never known a self build to take more than 2 years !! I explained that they had backed us into a corner with little options as we were then technically uninsured. In desperation I found a professional broker who was the complete opposite of SJL insurance. And we have now secured insurance with the new company at a reasonable rate with £250 excess and the premium includes all of the things SJL said we had to insure separately for. When I explained to the new broker how SJL had treated us he was appalled. And advised that he has had many clients who's build project has gone on far longer than planned, some taking 5 years or more. Bottom line in my opinion SJL will take your money and then take advantage of you in any way they can.

We unfortunately insured our self build project through them. They basically backed us into a position where we now have an expensive self build policy, with an even more expensive PL cover and uninsurable owned plant. We ended up having to take out PL insurance again to insure our plant at a fraction of the cost paid to SJL. if the answer to your question is not simple then do not expect a response from them. I spent hours on the phone chasing people who promised to get back to me "later today", "tomorrow" ..."by the end of the week" all empty promises. Dean was the only one to be honest enough to say sorry, we should be able to support you but we can't and best you look to insure elsewhere.

I was pleased that Jessica Evans, the SJL Representative, phoned me well in advance of the insurance deadline to check that there had been no alterations to the house and to advise me in plenty of time to look through the material that she was going to be sending me. I was also relieved to receive prompt acknowledgment of my payment.
