Avoid Europcar Dublin Airport! I prepaid for an Economy Hybrid (EDAH) Toyota Yaris Hybrid, but agent JMASUEME lied to my face, claiming a Hyundai i10 (Mini Petrol - MDAN) was a hybrid. This is a double category downgrade and a flat-out lie to save their fleet.
I drove 900 km and spent â¬35 extra on fuel because of this deception. When I complained, "Alex" from Customer Service offered a laughable â¬0.60 (sixty cents!) refund. They hide behind "signed contracts" even when those contracts were signed based on their staff's deliberate lies.
Professional scammers. I have initiated a chargeback with my bank and a formal complaint with the CCPC Ireland. Do yourself a favorârent elsewhere.
P.S. UPDATE 2026-03-23: The generic reply from Europcar below is just for show. My contact with their customer service resulted in a ridiculous â¬0.60 refund offer for a double-category downgrade and being lied to about the car's engine type. This is not assistance; it is an insult. I will not change this review until a fair resolution is reached. The case is now officially with my bank (chargeback) and the European Consumer Centre (ECCLT-24267).
UPDATE 2026-07-02: Chargeback successful. Bank refunded the full amount due to vehicle downgrade. Justice served. How are you, JMASUEME ?

Was rented a car (Dublin airport) with quite severe damage, obviously an impact to the front and more so on the side, dents, scrapes, bits broken....Approached staff a Was told it was all documented, no need to worry, but still got a rep to do a walk-round , to be sure. Had the car 3 days, used very very little, returned it to drop off point , the staff member there walked directly to a front tyre, in the dark, and pointed to a small mark on the tyre,, straight away, as if it was already known about, and said i would have to pay for a new tyre. I flat out refused... some 20 minutes of discussion passed before she agreed that it may not have been me, as the car had been in some sort of a side impact and frontal damage near the tyre in question,, Disgraceful service.. a less vigilant customer would have been made pay.. Europcar was once a very good company.. Now avoid.

Extremely negative experience renting a car with Europcar Dublin.
I booked a car in advance through my tour operator and had already paid for all the necessary services. However, when I arrived to pick up the vehicle, the staff started insisting on additional insurance and extra payments that were already included in my booking. The whole process took more than an hour, during which I felt constant pressure to purchase extra services.
Moreover, the car I had booked was not available, and I had to pay extra for a different model. The vehicle I received already had scratches and visible damage.
As a result, I experienced a lot of stress, lost valuable time at the beginning of my vacation, and ended up overpaying 195 euros. This significantly spoiled the start of my trip.
I would not recommend dealing with Europcar Dublin. In many years of renting cars in different countries, this is the first time I have encountered such a level of service and pressure to pay for additional charges.

Quite the opposite of other reviews, we had a great experience.
Paul, on the pickup desk at Dublin Airport was helpful, friendly and chatty. We'd taken out full cover insurance to avoid any problems with scratches or bumps.
Collecting the car was easy and it was in really good condition.
Return was easy (once we found the right place!) and the chap who received the car was helpful and friendly.
A very positive experience

If I could zero stars I would.
Awful from start to finish.
Staff at the airport were rude and unprofessional. Was told Iâd be waiting â2minutesâ for my car, then it changed to â15â and was ultimately 45 mins which left me late for my appt.
The car was FULL of dents and scratches. They wanted me to log everything so I had to spend time taking photos and updating their system.
As soon as I left the place, I realised the fuel range was only 375kms and it should have been a full tank of approx 550kms. I contacted customer service and they agreed that I could return the car with approx 375kms. I returned it with 370kms and they charged me about â¬100. I complained and they reduced it to â¬40. So despite them breaking the agreed contractual terms of a full tank, they didnât agree that a 5 km range difference was approximate. They also looked to pin a tiny scratch on me and I wasnât having it.
Absolute scam of a company. Just trying to screw the customer for every penny. Horrible to deal with. Awful cars. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

I have rented a car with Europcar many times and cannot believe the way I was treated. They have tried in the past to sell me insurance, but I have my own third-party coverage, which they donât like because they canât push their ridiculous premiums that often cost more than the car rental itself.
On Monday I picked up a car, as usual, at Dublin Airport. They offered me an upgrade because I was âsuch a loyal customerâ, but thatâs just nonsense as they didnât have the intermediate car available, so they had no choice but to give me the upgrade.
I only drove locally in Dublin as I was visiting my sick mum, who has a large driveway, so the car was parked safely the whole time. I returned the car after three days just after 18:30, but no one was present. I left the keys at the main Europcar desk at Dublin Airport and asked the staff member to check the car, but he said there was no need.
I got on my flight back to London, and later they claimed that two and a half hours after I returned the car it was examined by someone called Marta. They said there was damage to the front centre bumper. However, this exact area already had damage recorded on the diagram they gave me when I collected the car. They are now charging me over £500 for what they claim is a 5â8 mm scratch in the same spot.
This company previously gave me a car with illegally damaged tyres that were so dangerous I had to point it out to them myself. When I did, I openly challenged them about it and they tried to keep me quiet in front of other customers. The manager at Dublin Europcar later wrote to apologise, but now I realise it was probably to stop me leaving a review. I should have posted about it at the time but I had a lot going on.
I donât mind claiming through my third-party insurance if I genuinely caused damage, but in this case I did not. In my opinion, this behaviour is unacceptable and companies like this should be investigated.
Update: I have now received another response from Europcar. The manager, Lynsey, accused me of returning the car to the wrong terminal, which is incorrect. I collected the car at Dublin Airport and returned it to the same place, exactly as I was instructed to do. This is my fourth or fifth rental this year and I have always picked up and returned cars at the airport.
She also accused me of verbally abusing staff because I said this was a scam and that Europcar were âtalking shiteâ. Apparently that counts as abusive language.
They have now agreed to refund the full alleged damage charge of over £500, but they have barred me from renting with them again. To me, that says everything. If they believed the damage claim was genuine, why refund it?
Perhaps the refund came after I said I would share my experience publicly on Trustpilot.

I had an uneventful rental of a 2025 Nissan juke with 22000kms - so a new car. I travelled 112kms during the 24hr rental period. Returned the car with no issues, noises or warning lights on the dash. To my horror 3 days later 1200 euro was taken off my card stating there was clutch damage - the call intimated I had damaged the clutch somehow. If this was mr private car it would be straight into Nissan under warranty but seems Europcar think this is my issue.

What an absolute shit show.
Don't rent from these cowboys.
Rented from Knock Airport, had a fee charged to my card but had received nothing from them detailing what the charge was for. Emailed, phoned, send messages to their WhatsApp number all to be ignored.
Finally got through again by phone and was met by attitude and someone who refused to disclose his name in the "damages department".
Charged â¬205 for a scuff to an alloy, a scuff that I did not do.
I read reviews previously stating that if you didn't take out their insurance, they'll find damage on return and my god, I wished I'd taken those reviews seriously.
Never again

I had an awful experience with Europcar and I will never be using them again.
I picked up my car in the pouring rain, did my best inspection of it and took photos of all existing scratches I could see, and had an incident-free weekend with the car. When returning the car, I was charged for a hairline scratch on the underside of the front bumper, so small and insignificant that Europcar had neither been able to spot it when a previous customer had brought it in with it, nor was there any chance I could have spotted it when inspecting my car in the rain. I was charged an obscene amount for a scratch that is neither visible, nor will it ever be fixed by Europcar.
The customer service team (both in-person and online) were unhelpful, ignorant and dismissive of me, and I will not be using Europcar ever again.

I recently rented a vehicle from this company, and my experience was very disappointing.
The car I reserved was unavailable at pickup, and I was offered an âupgradeâ without clear explanation of the costs involved. I was massively overcharged, and the additional fees were directly tied to this so-called upgrade. When I asked for clarification, the responses were unduly assertive, making the situation stressful and difficult to resolve. I have rented vehicles many times before, and I have never encountered anything like this.
Clear communication, accurate reservations, and transparent billing are essential in car rentals. Customers should never face unexpected costs or uncertainty regarding their rental.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. Prospective renters should carefully confirm vehicle details, pricing, and all fees before pickup and retain copies of all correspondence.

If I could do a minus star I would, great customer service at the start, absolutely perfect.
Then I left it back and they hit me with a charge for slight damage on the drivers side alloy wheel, like someone hit a curb. I definitely did not hit anything and they charged nearly 200 euro, after paying the waiver fee, and giving 250 for deposit and actually renting the car.
So in total it cost me nearly 450. Absolute disgrace and I ll never use the again. Can t believe this

Given a car with a scratch on the right hand side of the wheel arch that continued onto the left hand side.
When returning the car they said that it was two scratches and that we were going to be billed for one of them. Clearly one scratch, absolute stitch up job
