I rented a car from Dollar/thrifty in Las Vegas. It was advertised as the least expensive car available. Ace and Nu, both of which I have rented from before with no problems were about 30 more for the week. I paid the reservation in advance as required by hotwire for this transaction and checked the receipt to assure all taxes were included which the receipt clearly indicated were included. 1 month later when I pick up the car Dollar/Thrifty charged me an additional 152.00 dollars for taxes. I disputed this and neither company was willing to remove the double charges. My 10 year relationship with Hotwire ended today. Also I spent 2 hours on the phone with Hotwire to find out they would not stand behind thier reciept. BUYER BEWARE FALSE BUSINESS PRACTICES AND NO ACCOUTABILITY. If I could rate the 0 I would...also thier app is awful and glitchy.

Never again total bone job they say so screwed up. I told him where I wanted to pick up the car they sent me across town cost time too much time on my vacation ever again I won’t do whatever cost me way too much to screw. Wouldn’t let me cancel. Cost me $190 if I didn’t pick it up.

My experience with Hotwire was extremely disappointing and honestly felt like a scam.

Hotwire advertised a rental car at a specific price, we booked based on that advertised price, and then when my wife went to pick up the vehicle, the rental company would not honor it and wanted approximately THREE TIMES the amount we had booked.

If you advertise a price and accept a customer’s reservation based on that price, the customer should reasonably expect to receive the service at that price. Otherwise, what is the point of the advertised price?

My wife was ultimately left without a car, and Hotwire did essentially nothing to resolve the situation.

To me, advertising an attractive price that cannot actually be provided and then leaving the customer to deal with a dramatically higher price feels extremely misleading and very close to a bait-and-switch.

I completely lost confidence in Hotwire after this experience. I will not book through them again, and I strongly recommend that anyone considering Hotwire be very careful about relying on the advertised price.

Absolutely horrible customer service. Deceptive pricing. Calling the customer service number leads to a big waste of time getting transferred, explaining over and over again the issue and no one wants to help. Awful company. Will never use again.

I actually had a really good experience with Hotwire. I made a mistake in my booking and they fixed it for me within minutes even though they didn't have to. It would be great if the pricing was in local currency though.

Worst experience ever, rent a car with all included tax and fees, but still need to pay tax at counter, scamm!!!!

I would have given a 0 rating if possible. Made a booking which could be cancelled in the next 2 days while inflight to USA. Our plans changed and we realised that we would not reach Seaside on the planned date. Tried to cancel the booking but they have made their system such that it is impossible to cancel the booking online. It gives an option to change/cancel booking and when selected, directs you to log into your account. Once you log into your account there is no option to cancel it and it carries on endlessly. Sending emails does not work, chat online does not work....literally nothing works. The ONLY way to cancel is by calling their customer support.and they take an eternity to do that.
If your time is PRECIOUS, PLEASE DO NOT USE HOTWIRE. I used it many times earlier but niw they are literally SCAMMERS.

Your deceiving customers when believing that some of the hotels you label as 3☆ are so much worse than that. One in particular is the Quality Inn on I-10 in San Antonio. You said it was a 3☆ and there was unsanitary conditions on the sheets, stained furniture, horrible service, smelly rooms and halls. Our room was horrific and we are thinking we will never stay in a hotel showcases by you. That hotel was seriously disgusting (BOTH ROOMS), in every aspect of the word. Check what you advertise, because it makes you look just as bad as the hotel itself... Thanks for misleading people, that is not okay at all... DO BETTER!!!

I booked a hotel stay in Berlin, Germany with hotwire this June. Three nights. Over $900. So not cheap. Was supposed to be a 4 star hotel and have AC. We get there at night, the place is a dump and the AC is broken. The hotel tells us its been broken for weeks and can't be repaired. All they could offer was a fan. In the middle of a heat wave. So we said no thank you and checked out the next morning. The hotel customer service at that point promised us a full refund of the remaining nights and a discount on the first night. We found a different hotel and were actually OK with the situation. I mean, thats the risk you run with a site like hotwire. And AC breaks. They gave us a refund. All good, we thought. NOT SO.
We get home a week later, and that refund never arrives. I contact both the hotel and hotwire, and suddenly nobody remembers the promised refund. All they offer is a 10% courtesy refund of some 60 bucks. I had to do a chargeback through my credit card company, and then they fought THAT tooth and nail, for over three months. My saving grace was that the conversations with the hotel were in chat, so I had all that in writing, and could prove what they had said. Even with that, it took multiple rounds of providing documentation to the credit card company, following up with them, escalation to arbitration and it took 3 months to actually get my money back.
So Hotwire.... never again.

We booked our night stay on hotwire.com. we had specifically selected free parking, upon arrival we saw that it was 35 dollars for parking, insane price for a one night stay at a hotel already paid for. The kicker is they overbooked parking and there were no spots left! We asked where we could park and the lady at the front desk said (if your lucky we will find one on the street) and as we walked out said (good luck), after driving around for a while we could not find a spot within a two mile radius. After asking for a refund due to having no way to even arrive at the hotel and stay they said it was non refundable! Do not waste your money at this place! We had to find another hotel and ended up not being granted a refund from either the hotel or hotwire.

I booked a hotrate hotel that said it was ramada, holiday inn express, clarion, or holiday inn. It was for $142 USD per night, and said its usually $210 USD per night.

I come to find out - it's a shitty motel with 2.1 stars, that is usually only $82 CAD per night. I ended up paying MORE than the actual rate (by a significant amount) and when I asked for a refund, all they could do is call the hotel and ask them nicely to give us a refund (which obviously they refused to do - why would they? They scammed us in the first place).

When I said that I would never use hotwire again, they didn't care in the slightest. Didn't try to fix anything, and they continue to platform this shitty motel.

Do not use this app. It won't give you a good deal, and can actually make you pay more.

I booked a Hotwire Hot Rate hotel advertised as a 4-star property. I understood and accepted that I would not know the name of the hotel until after booking — that is the trade-off with a Hot Rate booking. What I did rely on, however, was Hotwire’s representation that the hotel would be 4-star.

After paying, the hotel was revealed as Sandman Suites Vancouver on Davie. Nothing against this hotel, it is lovely. However, this property is classified as a 3-star hotel by multiple major travel platforms.

I contacted Hotwire immediately and explained that I wasn’t complaining because I didn’t like the hotel they selected. My concern was specifically that I purchased a mystery hotel advertised as 4-star and received a property that is widely classified elsewhere as 3-star.

Hotwire’s only solution was to cancel and refund the booking. I explained that this wasn’t an adequate resolution because we needed accommodation for these dates and Vancouver hotel availability was already extremely limited and expensive. I asked them to simply honour what I believed I had purchased by moving us to another comparable 4-star property. They refused.

I also escalated the matter and was ultimately told there was nothing further they would do.

What disappoints me most is that the star rating is one of the very few pieces of information a customer is able to rely upon when purchasing an opaque Hot Rate hotel. If Hotwire’s definition of a 4-star hotel can differ substantially from how the same property is classified across other major travel sites, consumers should be aware of that before taking the risk of a mystery booking.

I won’t use Hotwire again. The savings aren’t worth it when one of the primary characteristics you’re relying upon when making the purchase may not match your reasonable expectations of that category.

Tried to book a hotel and rental car and I tried 3 separate times to use my card. Each time I was given an error that said “credit card limit has been reached. Please contact financial institution.” No big deal. I had the money so I asked a relative to use their card and I would pay them back. Their card was charged immediately and I got the confirmation email. Hotwire still charged my personal card (831 dollars!) that they said did not work. Never got a confirmation email, no receipt or anything. The customer service is outright accusing me of lying when I have the bank statements saying they charged me. Not to mention they are willfully dense, they kept repeating “we did not charge you twice on this transaction” and I say “we know, but there was another card that was attempted and those were denied” and they just say “but for this reservation we didn’t charge you twice” I KNOW! They are rude and condescending and completely unprofessional. So now I’m out 831 dollars and can’t pay my relative back. They keep insisting that the pending charge will fall off, when it has gone all the way through on my banks end. When told that they were either misunderstanding me or ignoring me and would just say “it will fall off. “ it won’t. Because it went through. I have money missing now and their garbage customer service is not interested in helping. Awful experience.

Very disappointing customer service from Hotwire. I contacted them because I needed to modify the car rental pickup location, and instead of trying to help find a reasonable solution, I was simply told that the location could not be changed.

Travel plans change, and I understand that reservations have terms and restrictions, but I expected Hotwire to at least make an effort to assist or provide alternatives. Being told there is nothing they can do is frustrating, especially when you are relying on them while traveling.

This experience has definitely made me reconsider using Hotwire for future reservations. Customer service should be about helping customers solve problems, not just repeating that something cannot be done.

I’ve tried so many times to try to give them a chance but every time they just always let me down. This was the last straw. I let them trick me into paying $200 on a shitty hotel in grovetown the only reason I chose Hotwire is because of the pictures of the choice hotels they had, that’s another thing I didn’t like about them, like why can’t I have a choice up front. But anyway I said all that to say this. The hotel choices was not available and after I paid the price they gave me a completely different place and they didn’t even tell me what type of bed selection was available. Shame on you Hotwire I’m completely disappointed and I more than likely would never use them again. LIARS 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Hot Wire takes extra from your bank…
Booked a trip to Las Vegas and the cost was $970. When I checked my bank records, Hot Wire took out 3 transactions. One for the trip $970, an extra $270, and another $1.35 for some reason. When I called to get an explanation I was given the bounce around and left in constant hold until I got frustrated and hung up. Do not book through this site. They will steal from your account and give you little in the way of assistance.

100% scam along w Expedia thier owners. I suspect mega lawsuits are in court. Class action suits. Reservations dissapear on thier websites. And in your gmail. Out 300 dollars. Stolen. Citi bank is in on this scam as well as visa

DO NOT USE HOTWIRE EVEN IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! Absolute scam of a “company” their customer service is the worst I’ve ever dealt with and I’ve worked in customer service for 18+ years. They offer no help/ support. Even when things go wrong with your booking/ rental, they say too bad no refunds or help, you already paid!

We were given a hotel claimed to be at a discounted price. when I looked at the official hotel website it was at a cheaper rate. When confronted about it, hotwire agent refused to cooperate. When emailing hotwire customer support, I received a "we refuse to respond to this message". Everyone avoid this company at all cost.
