I live in New York City where a dishwasher is considered a luxury item. It genuinely costs a couple hundred United States Dollars extra per month for the privilege of renting an apartment that includes in its kitchen a dish-washing-robot.

I was initially hesitant to buy from Loch because if you Google "Loch Capsule Dishwasher", you'll find nothing but posts from angry crowdfunding backers. I didn't purchase my unit through a crowdfunding campaign, so I can't speak to that experience.

What I can say is that I received my unit 7 days after I ordered it, and now having used it daily for about a month, I can assure you that the product is excellent.

What makes a dishwasher excellent? Like with most important questions in life, I can only give you the answer that resonates most with my personal understanding of the world and the unique way in which I construct meaning from experience, so I'll ask you to forgive my arrogance here, but I'd like to think I speak for the people - for the New Yorker - when I submit to you that the answer doesn't need to be as complicated as the likes of residents of /r/dishwashers might have you believe:

An excellent dishwasher is one that simply excels at its namesake task, and that is what the Capsule, of Loch Electronics, does excellently.

Communication with the seller was effortless. They are very patient with all my questions and provide information promptly.

The dishwasher looks minimal and premium. Great addtion to our kitchen. Installation is easy. Cleaning is amazing. It fits everything we use as a 2 person household. I highly recommend this dishwasher!

The old reviews on this product make the company seem sketchy, but the dishwasher arrived and is solid. There was a mixup with delivery and the company was very responsive and rectified the problem quickly. Been using the dishwasher for 2 weeks and it’s very compact which has its pros and cons, but if you are limited in space it’s a great solution.

I wasn’t expecting to be this impressed by such a compact dishwasher, but wow – it’s very stylish and effective! The design gives a premium feel, and it is surprisingly easy to operate with multiple options including fruit washing and UV sterilizing.

The build quality is solid – it doesn’t feel fragile at all – and the dishes come out sparkling clean every time. I’ve even started using some of our nicer dinnerware more often now that I don’t have to wash them up by hand! 😅

It fits our kitchen layout perfectly – like it was made for that spot. The size is ideal, and it blends in beautifully with the rest of the kitchen. I’m honestly tempted to buy a second one for our camper van 😄

Capsule looks even better in person than in photos. The size is perfect too and will fit under my sink once I clear the space.

Loch and the capsule have performed without exception. The machine is installed in my boat and does a great job. There was a plumbing issue (my fault) which caused a fault code. I followed the instructions and it cleared. This machine has performed well. I would buy another.

Customer Service after the fact ruined the entire purchase. Don’t honor their own return policy and make you jump through hoops unnecessarily. Then days of no response. Buyer beware.

I was initially very excited by the promise of this product - providing a dishwasher which could fit into notoriously small London apartments. Sadly the dishwasher just is not fit for purpose, in London at least. I have tried every wash setting and multiple types of detergents and salts, but I just cannot find a wash setting which doesn’t leave residue on my crockery, which is chalky and smelly. I finally reached out to Loch Electronics to see if they had a solution, and they firstly gave me incorrect information about the detergent I could use, and then essentially gave up and said other users are happy. Their direct quote is below, to avoid any misconstruing on my part:

“We initially believed that Finish Quantum Ultimate and Fairy Platinum Plus also offered their detergents in smaller tablet forms. However, you're correct—at this time, we do not recommend using pods, as we have not found any that are also suitably sized for the Capsule dishwasher.

We completely understand how important it is to choose the right detergent for both effectiveness and convenience. At the moment, we don’t have a specific brand recommendation, but many of our backers have had great results using high-quality liquid, tablets, or powder detergents that are readily available in their local markets.”

Sadly, I have never been able to achieve the ‘great results’ which other backers apparently have had.

The detergent issue aside, I sadly don’t find the machine to be all that useful. Given how little actually fits inside it, and given the faff involved in having to fill the clean water container for every load and empty the dirty water container for every load too (unless you are lucky enough to have plumbed in your machine), then there simply is little time difference involved in washing up the dirty crockery vs having (allegedly) clean crockery but still needing to deal with the water containers. The unit also is not that small, nor is it that portable. It is heavy and cumbersome and honestly not something which you would readily take camping or on day trips with you, despite what some other reviews might say. I have also had a couple of random faults causing some loads to finish early and incomplete, with no identifiable reason as to why.

Overall, if this product genuinely works for you, I am jealous, because it promised a lot, and if it met those promises for me then I would be extremely pleased. It has not met those promises however, nor have Loch been able to answer my concerns. I am thus very disappointed, and a few hundred pounds poorer for the experience.

Hi there! I would like to share my honest experience with this machine after 8 months of ownership (full of issues). I know that many people are still waiting for their units but if I had known of its quality before and their "return/warranty"policy, I would have never backed them in the first place.

Everything began with E1/E4 error out of the box which has been a recurring issue ever since. This error leads to your current wash program reset, i.e. the unit stops and drains all the water inside together with your detergent, so that you have to start all over again.

The Loch Support did try to help and even sent me a board replacement. But in the end after 8 months of struggle its front panel just stops working and the machine simply turned off on its own after 8 months of poor functioning.

Anyway, it would not be so bad as the only resolution they offered was to repair on your own with their parts which is just ridiculous to be honest.

To back all my claims here, I can provide the videos and screenshots of interaction with Loch Support at your request (not allowed here).

Beware backers! You might eventually get your Capsule dishwasher but your trouble will then just begin. Better spare your money or buy a simpler counter dishwasher half the price at Home Depot (for me it did work much better).

I ordered two dishwashers from Loch. One worked perfectly from the get go, the other unfortunately needed some repairs but now works perfectly as well.

This little dishwasher has made my life so much easier! And it fits well within the kitchen of my tiny house and my partner's can later be fitted into the van home he's building. I also like the veggie wash option, having recently learned that only long washing tends to remove the bulk of chemicals used in non organic produce.

As for the repair process, it was a bit of a hassle at first, having to send pictures and a video of what was happening with the machine. However, I also understand that this allows the technicians to identify what's going on from afar and find the most ecological, economical and most practical solution. In the end, it meant that a replacement panel could be sent and installed by us by following a clear instruction video, which is significantly less time consuming and costly than sending bulky dishwashers halfway across the world.

I have looked for a dishwasher like this one for years.

This company promised me a refund because they were unable to ship to where I live. Then they went back on that and said they could ship, but at this point it had already been over three years since I put money down for the product. I've been going back and forth with their customer service for OVER A YEAR NOW. They promised a partial refund (which is still unacceptable given they originally promised a full refund), and have yet to follow through with it. Stay away from this company at all costs.

The company is refusing to honor its repeated promise to refund my purchase. Do not buy from them.
