I purchased a Mobal WiFi router which was promptly sent to my Japanese address.
You will need internet access to set it up, I have a Mobal phone so no issues.. otherwise just visit a Starbucks to do that...
Instructions to activate were simple and the touch screen on the unit easy to use.
My connections have been great and have not lost connectivity at all... I have surfed the net and streamed a program with no issues.

Cumbersom delivery of SIM card to Belgium
The card was withhold by the Belgian Postal service because they claimed that importduties needed to be paid. For a data-only card of +/- 50 ⬠they card 28 ⬠extra. I was able to get this charge been surpressed to 0 with the argument that the value of the card was for service deployed in Japan only. The Sim itselve is of no value. I reported this to Mobal, and they referred me to their Policy pages which indeed mentione the possibilty of import duties . This is not very visible on the Commercial pages of mobal.com.
Anyway I have the Sim without extra costs, but is purely because of my own efforts, I received no usable advice from Mobal, if Mobal would register their products to the Belgian Customs, they could prevent that their customers would be faced with importduties. Now hoping for a nice holiday with flawless mobile data in Japan, yet to come.

Fine but missing the opening hours of the counter in advance
It was a pity that the counter opened at 10 am, I was not knowing and missing in all the informations before. Maybe I was not reading carefully enough. We had to wait almost two hours at the airport. But the assistant was on time, so everything was quickly done. For the rest everything was perfect.

Reliable service
I use a Google phone, so the set-up of the service was not too straightforward, but I worked it out in the end with the extra step, which can be made more apparent at instructions of how to connect stage, rather than finding it in the Frequently Asked Questions. The connection is reliable and as fast as you advertise. Excellent value for money.

The delivery of the eSIM activationâŠ
The delivery of the Japanese eSIM activation code could not happen before I left Australia. Then it took a whole day to activate as I was travelling at the time. This is most unlike my prior eSIM provider "SimCorner" who sent me the activation code within a few minutes of buying the eSIM for Europe in Australia.

Unlike data-only eSIM providers like SIMCorner, our Voice+Data eSIMs requires additional processing to get the Japanese number assigned. While activations typically take around 90 minutes, they can take longer during busy periods or if requested later in the day. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you!
We do offer data-only eSIMs, similar to SIMCorner, for use in Japan which can be activated within 15 minutes. If youâre looking for a quicker activation in the future, this might be a good option!
Alternatively you could have the eSIM Access code shipped to your home Australia ( Providing there is enough time to get it to you ) as this would allow you to pre-schedule your activation and ensure your eSIM is ready for you to use upon arrival.

The connection isnât bad, I used it for 2 years, but you can find way cheaper for the same amount of data or even unlimited connection for the same 100 GB limit price. If youâre going to stay long in Japan just like me, itâs not worth it. I ran out of GB half through the month whether itâs phone or WiFi. Thatâs the worse thing. If youâre staying short term, itâs good to use their E-Sim service.

Had issues getting the esim to work
Had issues getting the esim to work, removed it from device - error message said it wasn't pernament - couldn't replace it as it said it was already activated - support said I had to buy another one.
Support have now said they will replace the esim - DO NOT remove the ESIM from the device when troubleshooting - contact support they are helpful. Changing review to 2 stars.

As discussed with our Customer Service team, we believe the error message you saw (stating that the deletion of the eSIM was not permanent) was a generic message from your device and unfortunately, this is out of our control. However, we do of course apologise for any confusion this may have caused!
We can confirm that we provided clear instructions in the email you received containing your Data Only eSIM, as well as in our terms and conditions, advising not to delete the eSIM from your device as it could only be installed once and cannot be reissued. We also explain that should the eSIM be deleted you will be required to purchase a new one from our website.
Nevertheless, we are glad to hear that our Customer Service team have been able to offer support and come to a resolution with you.
