We ordered 9 walnut internal doors from one of there suppliers, 8 turned up with some kind of damage, we only return one as the damage on the other 7 was minor and could be sorted out onsite and we had paid for a carpenter to fit them, the replacement door we received came fully packaged and was not showing any damage, we did not unpackage this door as the the opening was not yet ready for the door to be fitted into, around 6 weeks after receiving the door we unpackaged the door and it had a 20mm hole in it, we contacted the retailer who in turn contacted XL, they said that because we hadn't checked it sooner they could not replace the door, the damaged door had obviously been damaged before it was packaged and to send out 6 damaged doors and then a damaged replacement door, i can only conclude that XL's quality control is obviously non-existent.

Reluctantly, I have to give XL Joinery 1 star at this point. Going through a house refurb, I ordered 6 x Suffolk - white primed doors via a 3rd party merchant. At a price point of over £100 incl. VAT each, the doors are of a shocking quality. The website states that these doors come with a [hardwood] lipping of 11mm on each edge of the door to allow for trimming. They don't, or at least the ones I received don't. The internal core of the doors and the MDF panelling come right to the edge on every side of the door and there is no lipping on any of them. My fitter tried his best and commented that he has never seen one, let alone 6 doors without any lipping on them. So far, XL have tried to blame the fitter for blown MDF as he has attempted to fit tubular locks to these "not to specification" doors and XL have stated that the so called "warranty" is apparently now void. [@XL Joinery] You can't "at will" withdraw a so called warranty on something simply because someone has made an attempt at fitting something that wasn't fit for purpose and / or manufactured correctly in the first place! These are primed doors and the lack of lipping is not obvious at all until being trimmed. I actually found another review where a customer had experienced the same issue and XL themselves stated that MDF should NOT come to the edge of the door. After complaining to my merchant they are doing their best to find a resolution and I have requested a full refund plus costs for the refitting of the doors already hung. Ultimately, if my efforts to recover the cost for the doors, or get replacements that are as specified on the XL Joinery website AND I fail to recover the costs [already paid] associated with having a fitter try his best to hang doors that were not supplied as specified, I will utilise my credit card company to initiate necessary recovery proceedings and if required, see XL Joinery in Court for the recovery of fitting costs already incurred. The Merchant, however unfortunate, is liable to me for the refund, but XL Joinery need to step up, put their big boy pants on and accept that they supplied a product that does not conform to the website illustration and specification, refund the merchant and offer a compensatory sum to cover the cost of fitting doors that ARE actually fit for purpose [i.e. with a lipping]. Personally, I suspect the doors supplied are not even made by XL Joinery, but their obvious tactic of blame the fitter / blame something / blame anything won't wash with me I'm afraid. The doors supplied are NOT what your website advertises. Over to you XL Joinery!! 04/07/23 - still no response from @XL Joinery

Scratches on glass as well as stains on glass that can not be removed ruined my door looks shocking

I tried this company for the first time. They charged me approx £45 to deliver a door. I ordered the incorrect one. They don’t exchange. £45 to get them picked up and then to reorder another £45 to deliver the new door.

£135 on deliveries. Unacceptable. Will not be using this company again.

Do not buy from this company
They sell doors that have extremely poor workmanship and won’t last you will end up having to pay twice
Customer service is a joke they will find sooooo many ways to put the blame on the customer
Avoid at all cost products/doors made by
XL JOINERY cheap and unreliable and you will never get them to accept liability for the product failure this will be your fault no matter what happens
Save your money don’t support rouge business like this one

PLEASE DONT USE THIS COMPANY ITS SHOCKINGLY BAD QUALITY!!! I’ve had 8 doors from this company and 6 have failed on the joints and come apart, I am a joiner and know how to swing a door and prepare it for stain. This company want you to open the package seal/stain the door then plain the sides and cut top and bottom off ( including the stain you’ve just put on ) fit the hardware plane to suit casing and re stain the door and if you don’t do it that way and there’s an issue they say it’s down to you. However it’s been. Done that ridiculous way and they still won’t do anything about the festering pile of cack of a product they sling out of the workshop. Luckily I bought through a trade outlet and I have had a refund. But this place is sending out tripe and not worth dealing with

Ordered a set of unfinished Worcester french doors, through a retailer recommended by XL. When the courier arrived ( one man only) he asked if I would help him lift the doors off the back of the lorry “because they are heavy “
considering he looked at least half my age I’m 76, I duly obliged.
After opening the packaging both doors had broken glass, no problem I was told you will get a replacement, bare in mind I had a tradesman arriving 2 days later to hang the doors. I had to wait a week before replacements arrived, so cancel tradesman, wait 3 more weeks before he could fit me in to his work schedule.
I called XL sales and vented my anger and asked for some kind of compensation, not going to happen I was told, contact your retailer was the advice given, when I mentioned leaving negative feedback on Trustpilot, I received a callback offering me £50.00 for my inconvenience, just goes to show if you don’t ask you don’t get, all in all not a pleasant experience.

I purchased 17 doors from XL Joinery via Howarth Timber. They were stored flat and in original packaging until joiner can fit. This is as per instructions on the door itself - leaflet says store flat and in original packaging until ready to fit. We’ll 3 weeks later I have now unpacked them and 3 doors are damaged. Neither XL nor supplier will exchange as they say I should have inspected earlier. None of the door packaging showed any signs of damage otherwise that would have raised a problem for me. Poor service by both and will never use them again. The doors are prefinished and the quality of some of them is shoddy with rough finishing and uneven lacquer applied. I spent. £3500 on them plus £500 on the XL Tiber handles too. Avoid XL and go with LPD instead.

Ordered through a third party seller. The door looks lovely but as an interior bifold, the mechanism arrived bent out of shape and faulty. Luckily our builders are resourceful and managed to bend it into shape and fix it to work as we were on a time constraint and a replacement wouldn’t have been convenient. Quality control is a bit of an issue.

Poor quality door almost like a plastic laminated skin on a MDF door the surface skin easily peels off through time, the edges are 6mm hardwood glued on to MDF so very little material for the carpenter to work with would not recommend this type of door

Delays without justification wrong items delivered no customer service so to speak.
Very disappointed .
Considering paid in full as per their terms ..lead times are best guess ...

I purchased 8 Suffolk doors, a pair of Suffolk glazed doors, and a glazed Worcester door. The pair of doors are warped and glass is scratched. The Worcester glazed door the glass is scratched also. I bought them through Costello Joinery Bromyard. I asked them to approach XL Joinery and ask if they would replace the Worcester door at a reduced price,XL Joinery REFUSED!! I said that I would put up with the warped ones if they would help me with Worcester door. I think this is unacceptable as I have spent a lot of money with them and their after sales is rubbish. They wouldn’t even meet me half way on this. I am so disappointed and angry with how this has been handled. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. 🙁😩 the trade name is Heart of wood not Costello joinery

We also bought 6 pine doors from X-L joinery. All put on by professional carpenter and all split at joints within 1 day of fitting, so would not close. Shocking quality. Xl joinery refused to refund but thankfully the supplier Elliot’s after a battle agreed to refund and carpentry costs. Would not recommend or use again.

This was ordered through Doorsuperstore & there was a delay in delivery which wasn’t an issue. Door was primed as instructed & fitted by a carpenter & looked amazing. Within 4/5 days the joints had opened to the extent I couldn’t shut it. Contact with door superstore came to no fruition & I’ve currently got no door on my property awaiting a resolution but not having much joy from anyone?? Just question upon question on how it was fitted etc.
Absolutely shocking customer service from whoever is meant to be dealing with this & I won’t be using them again. Still no door on my house & I'm away at work for 6 weeks… unacceptable really.

We found the whole process easy from choosing our doors and furniture right through to delivery. We've now had the doors fitted, they look amazing! Very happy with them both!

There was a long wait for it to be supplied but once it had come-in, all went smoothly. It was delivered promptly and it’s a great door

Doors are an appalling quality and state. Joints are all split with massive dents in the wood. Companies response was it is my fault when in fact a professional joiner from a joinery firm attended and also was disgusted on the state they had arrived! Would not at all recommend and will not be purchasing from them again. Waste of money time and effort. Customer Service is also disgraceful!

Door arrived in good time and good condition. The door quality was excellent as well.

The quality of your 4 panelled Victorian FD30 fire doors are of extremely high quality and far better than those I purchased elsewhere. Would thoroughly recommend.

Really pleased with the doors and joinery. Arrived on time and we’ll packaged. Handle sets were nice quality too.
