Johnsonâs Garden Building took ownership of their poorly constructed decking and Brad & Mark virtually reinstalled the decking in a timely and professional manner. They also adjusted the doors and windows to the summer house which were not part of the original work schedule.
Rotting after 4yrs!!!
Started off okay after a few teething problems, but things went downhill fast. The door wouldn't close properly and the timbers are already rotting â and itâs only four years old! Totally unacceptable for the money paid. An inspector came out weeks ago, but Iâve had no report or update since. Really disappointed and wish Iâd gone elsewhere. Save yourself the hassle and donât waste your money.

We recently purchased our garden building from Johnsons garden buildings at Thurrock, we are in love with our summer house and decking.
The service we received was excellent from Michelle she's a credit to the company.

Unreliable, unprofessional, frustrating, disappointing, costly.
The staff at the local office have been lovely and as helpful as possible within their remit.
However, our experience with customer service has been disappointing. Communication is inconsistent: we are often promised updates, such as confirmation of acknowledgement or appointments, but rarely hear back unless we chase multiple times. Even then, replies are delayed, and each response often raises further questions rather than resolving the matter.
From the outset, there were issues with the installation. For example, the electrician repeatedly left both our gate and the summer house door open during very windy weather, despite reminders. Unfortunately, this resulted in the summer house door splitting at the lower hinge and the gate getting loose screws. We have fixed rhe gate ourselves of course as that was only replacing the lost screws and screwing them back.
When we reported the door issue, rather than acknowledging the circumstances, we were immediately blamed. This was particularly frustrating as the damage had already been noted by the painter before he even had access to unlock the door, and was photographed and reported straight away.
Other aspects of the installation were also below professional standards. The heater was fitted with screws that were far too long, protruding around 2 cm through the wood to the outside, risking leaving the rain water in.
In addition, the repair to the cracked door hinge, described as a permanent solution, lasted less than six months before the damage reappeared.
The quality of the wood has also proven problematic, with leaks developing through knots despite previous repairs. We eventually had to attempt further sealing ourselves as asked to do so by the technician, though it is difficult to understand how we could succeed where a professional had not. Two corners of the summer house remain unsealed, allowing water to penetrate.
When the technician assessed the situation, he initially suggested that the water was travelling through the knots, which means according to him, that the water was traveling upwards against gravity somehow, a claim we found implausible.
Eventually, he conceded that the corners had not been sealed properly and assured us that he would report back to the office and return to carry out the necessary repairs.
We never heard back from him or customer services, despite multiple follow-up emails (all of which generated automated acknowledgments of receipt).
When we purchased the summer house, we were assured that any issues would be addressed at any time. Unfortunately, our experience has not reflected this promise. Had the summer house been built correctly from the start, many of these problems would not have arisen. Given the considerable cost, it is extremely disappointing to be facing such issues within the first year of ownership. If we had known in advance that this would be the case, we would never have made this purchase.
